Outstanding video. Me being from New York, their songs were always some of my favorites. Sad to hear that the original members have all passed. It’s so awesome that the son is continuing to carry on their legacy. 👍👍👍
I live in the UK remember buying the 12 inch of native new Yorker in 1977 there music still sounds as good and fresh today in 2024 ,thank you for a great video 😊
I'm a retired former Radio DJ from Nashville, TN. An R&B station, I got many requests for this group, it would be nice if the group is recognized for the success they achieved.
Native New Yorker, Don’t Tell Me Tell Her, & Inside Out were Odyssey hits that got a lot of airplay in NYC. Odyssey was very talented and so underrated.
Of course in the USA there was actually an attack on disco music by heterosexual white males because they saw music that was loved by gays, women, blacks and Latinos was inferior to their rock and they saw it as a threat and when white straight men feel threatened they use violence. Theta actually held a disco destruction night in a baseball stadium and brought disco records to destroy on the field. Only time an entire music genre was actually physically attacked. Luckily it lives on in Europe, Asia and of course in lgbtq clubs and with intelligent straight people.
Amazing group! huge in the UK, I spent my teens listening to their music, going back to my roots was a big hit here. Lilian was an amazing singer, the pure emotion she evokes when singing "If you are looking for a way out" it gets me every time. It is such a shame they did not get the recognition in their home, especially New York, Native New Yorkers should be the city's anthem! I saw Lilian's Son perform as Odyssey in Minehead UK a few years ago, he is doing his Mama proud
Hi, i too remember them from my teens, dancing to Native New Yorker with a older lady a workmate. Along with a " chicken in a basket " Such great memories. Shame all the original members have passed away
Absolutely loved their music, their wonderful voices and beautiful smiles. I still listen to them and their music is like a time machine. I loved much of the disco music. They used real instruments and were upbeat and danceable. Odyssey you are still in my heart.
"Going back to my roots" was a bigger hit than "Native New Yorker" just that it didn't "chart" well because it was more of a dance party groove than anything remnant of their Disco days. ...Still sad news tho anytime you hear about the passing of an old schooler artist, Almost like losing an ol' friend !...RIP to them!💜

"If you're looking for a way out" really captivated the British radio audiences (even to this day). It's not talked much outside of these shores like the rest of their hits
I wouldn't particularly call them a "Disco" group, mainly Soul & Pop. I remember them at their peak and all the hits they had in the UK. BTW Inside Out made No3 on the UK Charts, not No1, their big No 1 song was "Use It Up Wear It Out" I Saw them many times live, met them a couple of times, lovely people & after all these years I still have my little signed photo in it's frame. . Their awesome version of "Going Back To My Roots" UK No4 is one of my favourite tunes. Their music will live on for a long time.
Thank you so much for this. Didn't realise they were as old as they were, RIP all of you. Native new yorker is one of my favourites of all time. .. the disco genre banning by US radio stations was a disgrace, so many talented artists sacrificed for what..?

Inside Out was an anthem amongst my school friends in our year, 1982. I love Odyssey's music and have continually listened to their tracks up until today 40+ years on. A fantastic band who gave us unforgettable, beautiful music. Im from Zambia.
I definitely remember the 'NATIVE NEW YORKER' played on the last episode 'That's Entertainment' on GOOD TIMES' 5th season(77-78) era. As well as American Bandstand 3 dance couple segment of Dec.77 episode on VH1. If there's anything about disco I like, Odyssey would be my 1st pick. RIP all the members.

Great, great job brother Terry. I always thought they were much younger when they first did "native" in the late 70's. Enjoyed their music. It seems they lived long lives and they are not completely forgotten with the son continuing the group.
Enjoyed your commentary regarding Odyssey. They were a very good group and sad to hear that the American music industry blow them off as being too old. Let the people who buy the records decides what's good or not! There Native N.Y.er hit single was the joint back then for me. I'm from Connecticut and I was dating a girl in Harlem, N.Y. back in the day. When ever I picked her up to go out. I would play this song and say I'm dedicating it to you! She would just laugh and comment, "You say that to all the girls in N.Y". I told her that's not true, I only say it to the Fine Ones!
