The Eruption Was Powering Up Tonight - Video and Thermal View Samples From My Volcano Tour

- The close-up webcams look mighty interesting tonight since the eruption powers up every now and then and looks way more lively than last night. The MET office was actually under the impression today that the eruption was decreasing today, judging from the webcam footage, and my own drone tours from yesterday and today support that. But since the magma chamber is already full now, we can expect this eruption to grow from the one crater into a few kilometres long fissure in an instant so iv'e ben ready all night to jump into my car and drive tot he Reykjanes peninsula in a hurry. However, it might not come to such a scenario, but there is no denying to it that the eruption has been very unstable tonight, and we know why. Iv'e been in Reykjavik for 2 days now, doing a lot of filming and due to how hectic things are, I will be staying here over the weekend at least. There are days when I have very little time to edit but I will however do my best to keep some production going. I recommend the MBL webcam now, the top link. It's the one that almost made me jump out in the car earlier tonight, but as usual, this might turn into something unexpected.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
I think its pretty cool that other icelandic content creators refer to this channel as a top source for in-depth volcanic information.
Though im unable to show my appreciation monetarily, Ive been following since the buildup to the Fagradalsfjall eruption.
Thank You for your hard work Gylfi.
A concise video... Another Outstanding Video. A month of drone shots into the Crater, and NO others capture the awe of looking into an "Eye of the Earth".
Definitive Content.
Thank you for bringing us so much content, it gives us a wonderful insight into what happens in your small but anxious country. My heart goes out to all those in Grindavik
Thanks for watching!
1:08 what a shot! ❤❤❤
Beautiful 💜
Thank you! 😊
Thanks Gylfi for keeping us informed. The drone footage is beautiful👍
My pleasure!!
Your reportage of Iceland's volcanoes is outstanding, but no need to apologise because outside your channel you do have a life. Thank you for bringing us up to date, have a wonderful weekend full of joy and relaxation. Very best wishes to you, Wendi 🌻🌻🌻
Your efforts are much appreciated, thank you.
thanks for this. I really love drone views of these active eruptions.
Full tour soon :) way to busy filming
gorgeous footage gylfi
hard to believe it's molten rock watching it move in the crater and fun to see the thermals
enjoy your tour
Many Thanks Gylfi. I always look forward to your videos. Greetings and best wishes from NZ.
Thanks a ton and greetings to NZ
Thank you Gylfi...you have captured some really great shots...🌋
Regards from Scotland🌠
Many thanks!
mind-blowingly gorgeous! i hope people there never take for granted the incredible land they live in. i know gylfi doesn't
What perfect little crater 🌋
Thank you, Gyril for bring to us our living, breathing, birthing planet 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you
You're welcome
Thanks for the update. Take your time and get the footage you need. You don’t have to be first since you are the most artistic and concise. Simply the best. I love the eerie guitar music I this one. Really fits.
I think the rim is getting higher and thicker making it less likely to cave in.
Excellent photography!
Very beautiful update - ty Gylfi and stay safe and happy!
Thank you! Will do!
Even when you don't give us advance notice about good photo session they are always good ones.
Looks like the eye of a beast maybe a dragon
Iceland is showing us all the sheer power of the planet
Prayers as usual to all of you, I know is not easy being there❤
Thank you, Just Icelandic. Please stay safe.
I wish volcanos’ beauty and majesty weren’t so destructive and deadly. 🌋
Hope you are having a great time.
Yes I sure am :) will show it trough my footage soon :)
Gaaaah Such a Tease Lol . looking forward to the full version XD
Awesomeness!
Thanks!
Oh & Thanks by the way :) Stay safe out there
Thanks for the quick update. I hope your trip is all successful.
All good
Harsh, tragic, and yet so beautiful. Thanks for the teaser, looking forward to seeing the full length videos!
Coming soon :) and welcome
The gift that keeps on giving 😊. Glad your trip is going well.
😊 welcome
Wow. Thank you so much for your work, which is both frightening and beautiful.
Thank you for your updates Gylfi but please stay safe
Thanks, my drone takes most of the heat so I'm fine :) and greetings from Iceland
Thank you for the drone postcard! So beautiful, love your thermal image! The folks on your tour are quite lucky! 🤗😍
I'm actually working alone :) and thanks for visiting :)
Beautiful, Gylfi. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Fascinating views. Hope you have a good time in Reykjavik and will be able to record the next phase in this ongoing volcanic story.
Much appreciated :)
Wow, great filming. The heat thermal great to see what's under ground.
A bit heartbreaking to see Grindavik all abandoned over there. The drone view certainly showed why, though!
Great shot wasn't it?
Thanks so much! ♥️
No problem 😊
From that perspective, looking towards Grindavik, it is very clear just how effective the attempts to control the lava flow have been in protecting the town from being destroyed by the lava.
I typed in a long detailed rebuttal but google ate it. The net message, with lots of numbers, was that the berms as a strategy will prove ineffective for the long term. They missed a window back in November at re-directing the flows with a trench to establish a lava channel and now any attempts to stop the formard flow, especially with the source cone now 20M higher in elevation will likely be futile. A north or east wall blowout might be a temporary solution, but constant flow and gravity will win here. As of 4/27 it has overtopped the berm and now it will slowly erode a channel down to ground level.
Nice clip. thanks.
In the middle of all the devastation - it's good to stop and look at the beauty.
There is beauty in those transformations, thats very right :)
Great video again! Your dedication to this work has revolutionised it since I first saw it. We depend on you to understand Iceland. More please, more!
There seems to be an indication of additional eruptions in the area! Hope you finally catch a big one since you lucked out of the last few! But also praying no one gets hurt. Stay safe!
That final shot is top notch. Hope the weather is being kind to you G.
Not all the time, but fair enough :)
The thermal footage is always really fascinating. Safe travels
Thanks a ton :)
Outstanding Gilfi :) Best wishes to you and your fellow Icelanders from Down under Mate. Stay safe .
Many thanks!
Nice thermal. Beautiful views.
I look forward to the full version of the thermal until then you keep providing unsensationalised content and this is one of the best places for citizen journalism.
Fabulous coverage! Following from Chicago
Always welcome :)
So many people have worked feverishly to contain the lava and, yet, it’s amazing at just how much area has been covered
Yes this is sad to see, the town will never be the same although most of it is still there. The barriers will only hold the lava back for so long
Excellent as usual! Thank you from the edge of a sleepy supervolcano in Southern California.
Thanks and greetings to California :)
Awesome, thanks!
👍🙏>>>💚~~~ 💥 THANK YOU
I'm looking forward to the new footage.
Coming soon, I'm going again to the volcano today so it's limited tome for editing for a fed days, but it's a good tour :)
Good stuff as always. Getting close to that 100k too. I am sure you will hit it very soon.
Fingers crossed!
@@JustIcelandic No. I disagree. Your talent will take you over the top. I subscribed at 35k and have been impressed with every video
Brilliant footage as always, stay safe.
Thanks, will do!
TY!
After seeing panoramic shots of the area, can we all take a moment to appreciate just how titanically lucky the Blue Lagoon has been so far?
Yes wow, you will see it better in my 360 videos, will continue to work on them after todays volcano tour as I'm doing daily crater close up videos to document the changes.
Stunningly beautiful.x
Thank you! 😊
I wait for notifications of your new videos .
Keep us posted 🎉
Been using the time to film, new update tonight
Wow! The thermal footage puts it into perspective for all those wandering over to have a closer look! Love your video's thank you:)
Glad you enjoyed it

Good filming there Gylfi.

More soon :)
Well done! Thermal drone photo of the lava flows was the money shot! I was hoping you’d do that. Print it on coffee mugs and sell them to your viewers. I’d buy one, if it didn’t bust the bank.
Beautiful views! It seems the earth finally found a proper way to spill its lava and has created a new beautiful volcano…😍. Looking forward for the new videos.
PS: the music is beautiful!
Welcome :)
The music is really nice, but it's been tickling my brain as it reminds me of something and I can't nail it down. Is it a cover?
This flow has been heading southward for a month now. A couple of days ago glowing lava was visible in the southern leg of the flow that heads towards the south coast road. People, commentators, assume because the lava field is dark that no movement is happening. The engieers watching the defences of Grindavik probably have a different view.
Very powerful wind blowing the lava all the way across the crater. The sides are tall now. Stay safe, thanks for the update.
Thank you, I will, I filming the crater every day now, it's generating fantastic footage, especially for big screens, lots of details
Great !!!
Welcome :)
Thanks for the sneak peek!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Wow... Great drone views ! I live on black lava from '90/'91 downslope of Kilauea in Kalapana, Hawai'i. It's energizing to live on a live volcano ! 😎
Dear Gylfi,
You should have enough material together to sell a great documentary to Arte, for example. I'm sure many people would enjoy watching this.
BTW: Who plays this beautiful guitar solo?
Greetings from Bavaria.
Thank you again for this nice little update! Can you please tell how big this crater is? How wide and how tall? I have no idea and it’s hard to find info. Enjoy the rest of your tour and we will wait patiently for full edits.
Incredible video, the cone is very symmetrical it has a certain beauty to it. The lava barriers are holding fingers crossed, we are watching history. This is the second time a large flow is being diverted around critical infrastructure & a town. The other of course being in Iceland as well. I don’t want to celebrate anything yet with the crater and outflow looking solid but this is uncharted territory a completely different situation than in Vestmannaeyjar. So far the levy is holding, so far so good.
Super stuff 😀
Thanks for the visit
Looks like a witch's cauldron :-)
Hells Kitchen, the original story plot :)
Thank you Gilfi. Not sure either if the rims are higher or the lava has “dropped”
I'm doing tour 5 today so I will make a video with all the shots :)
❤
Welcome
Question: where has all the lava gone…? I mean in previous short eruptions we were following the lava daily, how and where it was spreading.
Ypu see it better in my new video :)
@@JustIcelandic 😅👏🏻👏🏻
I wonder if your thermal drone could detect the lava tubes that are apparently under the cooling lava and conveying fresh lava away from the eruption ?
Are you able to add a ruler in the volcano close up so we can understand the Size? It's impossible to get any sense of scale until thy road comes in shot
You will see it when I upload the longer versions very soon
How is the lava flowing ? Is it threatening any areas or not moving?
So I notice an apparent crack in the cone. From your videos I assume there is a way to know when it is close to erupting. To control the direction of the flow could you fire several high powered missiles into the side where you want the flow to go?
This volcano looks like a Low Simmering melting pot now!! Is this ending, Gylfi?
✨👌🏾🏆💫
Hello. I am curious about retirement in iceland someday. Im a biotech and biological scientist also into conservation biology and botany.
Does iceland accept people much. Im trying to learn the language but its harder than expected
its starting to look got strato like now will it eventually turn into a strato volcano?
Shield volcanoes rule the peninsula from slow paced eruptions like this
@@JustIcelandic ah well then like its parent this baby volcaano will be a shield volcano lol
Doesn't it look like that could be a reflection of the moon with angled closeup?!
Don’t tell us when or where his was
Check my next one, see it better there
