There's everything here. The lovely Mt Shasta, a couple of Amtrak trains, a bunch of UP freights, cool horseshoe curves and an amazing viaduct. The locations are all beautiful, especially with the nice springs colors. These long movies are really good, I always enjoy them a lot. Thanks a million for your effort Dan. Your job is always much appreciated.
Thank you Z! I'm glad you enjoy the long videos because on average they do seem to do better than short ones but they do take quite a while to whip out. You're too kind my friend!
Once again, setting the bar higher than any videographer has dared to go. Brute force and graceful, scenic beauty together @16:00 is the epitome of railroading. Thank you again for your creative efforts. 🤘
Well hey thank you so much that's very kind of you! Yes that is my favorite spot on the subdivision!
Beautiful !!
Definitely worth a super thanks for this stunner. I love it all, of course, but like you, a favorite part is the sunset footage. It’s all so magical.
Thank you Micha I'm so glad Google can translate so we can talk to each other. I'm very glad you are enjoying what I have to offer! Thanks my friend.
Another marvelous production. Loved the ground-level shot at Grass Lake with the train reflecting in the water. I watched another CZcamsr’s drone footage and it really showed how much BETTER your drone flying is when compared to others. Amtrak should buy those shots from the last sequence-amazing! Thanks for sharing these!
Thank you Bill! Yeah I thought that was a good spot to set up at Grass Lake. Well you're too kind but I have so many years under my belt now and it really is all about the experience.
Where to begin??!! You teased us with the preliminary short for this production, and you have totally proved that it was a really "special" production not just for you but for all of us. Yes, timing is everything to have the right light, train spot, and scenery, and you accomplished all of that. I am humbled how your work continues to mature in content because your prior work was so well done also. There are so many pictures in this production that belong on many train calendars as well as other high value locations in UP corporate offices! Once again, well done and totally appreciated.
Thanks Charles and yes this was another big one for sure and I hate to say it was a section of railroad I really haven't given too much attention to in the past so it was great to rectify that. You're too kind my friend thanks so much!
Shasta and Dan AT THE SAME TIME Dude !!
Ha thanks!
It's criminal you don't have more subscribers. Obviously, it's a labor of love.
Well thanks Mark you're too kind! Yes it is.
The State of Jefferson has never looked better!!!
Thanks! Great job of capturing the beauty and amazing engineering of the line. The guys who surveyed and built that line rode in on horseback and didn't have aerial views. You have to say they did a pretty good job.
Wow thank you so much Alen you are very generous! I am so glad you think so highly of this video and yes you're right it was a different world back then and any railroad surveying back then sure was a feat! They did a fantastic job.
Howdy Dan!
I have been a fan of yours for about 2 years now. Thank you for all of the fine videos. The perspective that you give with your drones on railroading is outstanding! I am asking you, if it would be possible for you to cover the BNSF from Wenatchee, up the Wenatchee River and through the Stevens Pass tunnel. This Tunnel is 7.8 miles long and is the longest tunnel in North America. I think it would be a fantastic Video!
Sincerely,
Dave W. Spokane WA
Thanks so much David! Someday I am sure I will make it up on the Scenic Sub again but not sure when. It is a bit hard to justify going that far away for a line that doesn't have very much traffic without having to take time off from work but I think someday I'll make it up there again.
This video was worth the wait, Dan! The trains that travel the Union Pacific's Black Butte Subdivision have a magnificent backdrop in the form of Mt. Shasta. Thank you for taking the time to capture the trains and the scenery that combine to make up this video. I enjoyed watching the video. (29 June 2024 at 2206)
Thanks so much Thomas you are too kind! I'm happy you enjoyed.
We've been waiting for this one!!! Can't wait to watch it this evening with popcorn! 😊😎
Ha yes I have teased this one for a while now. Hope you enjoy!
We finally got to watch! You didn't disappoint as always! Don't know where to start saying all the things we loved! Those views of Shasta are breathtaking! Now, can't wait for Big Boy!! (No pressure 😉)
@@TheRailfanDan we especially appreciate and love that you don't interrupt your videos with commercials! Thank you for that 😎🚂🚆
@@isabellame7326 Well thanks you too kind! I have an update video coming out on Friday about what I'm doing for the Big Boy and it is going to be a grand venture. Just cross you fingers I can make it to all the locations I have planned. Not sure how plugged up the roads might be with other railfans.
@@isabellame7326 On these longer ones I decided I would maybe put just one ad somewhere in the middle but that's all I will do and that is indeed for your sake and other fans! I do get more revenue with more ads but I don't want you and others to be interrupted so much during a video.
You are the best.
Thanks for another great video. I have really enjoyed the videos around Mt Shasta as I grew up there and frequented many of the locations in the films. I recently took some video of my own at sawmill curve when I stopped there on a trip to Red Bluff CA. There is a cut at the north end of the curve where you can sit on the bank and be pretty close to the train as it goes by.
Oh very cool then I'm glad you saw this one! This was the first time I actually filmed Sawmill Curve and I didn't know about that cut so I'll have to check it out next time.
@@TheRailfanDan Its right near where the curve ends. There is a obvious parking spot and short trail to the cut.
Thanks!
Rick! Seriously thank you so much! Man you are generous and again this is extremely helpful. I am glad you enjoyed this. So I'm wondering with your adventures on the Starlight have you had the chance to see Mt. Shasta early in the morning from the train? I would love to ride this section someday.
Spectacular! While I agree the Chargers take some getting used to, I’ve never been a fan of the GE Genesis.
I agree with you on the Charger locomotive, I think the new Progressive Rail EMD F125 looks better. Of course, I always enjoy your work!
Thank you!
Awesome. Thanks!
Henry thank you so very much this is quite generous of you! Your donation will go towards helping bring more quality content to you and more fans! Thanks so much!
Vast....Awesomeness.....sums it up!
35:30 Leader number 2541 Union Pacific ES44AC. Trailing units look to be...7397/AC45CCET & 6861/AC44CW.
46:33 U.P. 3012/SD70Ace leading the way, under the Big Shasta'!
With U.P. - GE's 8258/6480 & 6940 trailing her.
Magnificent! I'm looking for dispersed camping spots along the video so I can hang out in the wild and wait for a passing train. I know, I'm a foamer.
Andesite, Hotlum, the Dry Canyon trestle, Bolam and I'm sure others would all be great places for that.
Absolutely wonderful video. Spectacular views and just enough editing and voiceover to know what’s going on. Glad I subscribed along time ago. Excellent job.
Thank you so much I'm glad you have been here for a long time!
On the former Southern Pacific's Shasta Route.
Towards Big Boy!! 😎
My gosh you are much too generous! Thank you so so much for this! And you are correct this will exactly help to cover costs for the Big Boy! Thank you thank you!
@@TheRailfanDan You are very welcome! Well deserved! 😎

Incredible views! What's your music from, if you don't mind me asking?
Thank you! Yes no problem. I have been getting my music from Artlist.io lately.
I like your videos a lot, they are well done. Can you include one manifest train from locos to tail in it's entirety once in your videos? I like to see the consts of the trains completely as it's my area of interst.
Thanks! I know I did that at least once in this video and I do try to make sure you see every single car in a train at least once (even though it may be different locations to achieve the whole train).
Wouldn't it be sad if 4014 had to be detoured true hear for some reason on the way to Roseville and you and some of your friends knew about it. Thanks for the ride. Paul
Ha! Yeah that would be something. But it's alright because I am headed to 4014 myself this Thursday for a whole bunch of filming.
@@TheRailfanDan Be safe watch out for the other guy the last time I went to see it the people were just rude. Paul

How many trains pass through in a day? Sweet footage by the way.
About 12 trains or so in a 24 hour period.
Thank you for sharing. Can I buy this Video on DVD or Blue Ray?
I'm honored you want to but that is not something I do at this time. Maybe someday down the road I would offer disks.
Surprised u caught a t4 sd70 leading almost all were sidelined after they were ordered bc csx n up only ordered 20 each csx doesn’t even have there’s no more they were all sold off to progress rail I believe
I'm always enthralled by your videos, but I usually set aside time to watch these long ones because I hate to watch in segments. It breaks up the rhythm, and that ain't right. Your production is so beautifully cinematic. I'm kind of running out of superlatives for your videos. lol
Just as an FYI, Mount Shasta is a beautiful example of topographic prominence, a measurement of how important a mountain is in relation to its surrounding landscape, i.e., how far it sticks out like a sore thumb. Most of the Cascade volcanos qualify. Mount Fuji is perhaps the most famous example. Mount Denali in Alaska is the most prominent mountain on Earth when measured from base to summit, easily dwarfing any mountain in the Himalayas.
Hey don't worry about it too much I know you enjoy and I am humbled you think so highly of it all! I'm glad you enjoy the longer ones because on average they do seem to perform better than short videos. Thanks for that info and yeah I have always been amazed how Shasta just dominates anything else around by far.
