[FUNKY SAMPLE] Peter Appleyard - Soulful Strut (1969)

As one of the CBC's go to percussionists Peter Appleyard was indeed a very busy man. A versatile vibraphonist capable of playing in all styles, Peter Appleyard is a superior swing player. His wide-ranging career included playing drums in English dance bands, a period spent living in Bermuda (before settling in Canada in 1951), and a busy career in the studios. He was with Calvin Jackson's quartet in the mid-'50s, toured with Benny Goodman in the early '70s, and hosted a musical television series in Canada during 1977-1979 (Peter Appleyard Presents). I have this album, and I love this version of Soulfrul Strut, what a beautiful melody... I've twice heard the vocal 'version' of this song, Am I The Same Girl? (Barbara Acklin, I think?) at the Gerrard Square Food Basics in Toronto lately. Not sure if it's an in-store choice or not, but it was a better than average supermarket selection. I play this version on my radio show from time to time.
