In the musical they sing lonely goatherd.But in the movie they sing my favorite things
In the stage version, Maria sings My Favorite Things with the Mother Abbess and Lonely Goatherd with the children. In the movie, she sings both numbers with the kids.
no she sung climb every mountain with the mother abbess. both these songs were with the children
Kerrilee Mancer in the movie but in the musical she sings my favorite things with mother abbess too
Some people do another version where they are basically just bringing the movie to the stage.
And still *other* people...just don't even realize that the original stage play is even different from the movie (well, duh, you might think that it would be).
I used to get confused easily by seeing the familiar songs in different scenes, but lately I've seen it so much on CZcams that I'm finally starting to get used to it.
It's funny how the musical numbers that got left out of the movie, they never really confused me as much.
But take two of the familiar songs and just simply switch which scenes they are in, and I'm in a totally different theatrical time zone all of a sudden. 🙄

I know you have to be attractive (usually) to be in the acting business, but WOW. This is a good looking cast. And not only that-they're all really talented!

I have watched all the videos of this production and it is honestly exceptional everything from the set to the costumes to the singing, dancing and acting is phenomenal! I can't believe this is a school production! Everything is Broadway standard!

In the film The Lonely Goatherd number was done in a fantastic puppet show that Maria and the children put up to entertain their father and his friends.

This is the play, it is different from the movie.
In the Movie My Favourite Things is Sung during the Thunderstorm but in the Musical The Lonely Goatherd is Sung during the Thunderstorm while My Favourite Things is sung as a Duet between the Mother Abbess and Maria

A lot of people are commenting that
Director Robert Wise made a couple of changes in the staging and presentation of "My Favorite Things" and "The Lonely Goatherd" for his film adaptation of "The Sound of Music". In the original play, "My Favorite Things" was sung by Mother Superior and Maria in the first act of the play and "The Lonely Goatherd" was sung by Maria and the Von Trapp children in the Maria's bedroom. Director Robert Wise decided that "My Favorite Things"should be sung by Maria to the Von Trapp children and changed setting so it would be performed in Maria's bedroom for which the children take refuge to when they become frightened by the storm and run to her for safety. Wise also changed the setting and presentation of "The Lonely Goatherd" and decided to have the song performed while Maria and the Von Trapp children are putting on a marionette puppet show for their father, Captain Von Trapp and family friend/talent agent Max as opposed to the song being performed in Maria's bedroom by Maria and the Von Trapp children in the original play. In the original play, it was "The Lonely Goatherd" song not "My Favorite Things" that was performed when the Von Trapp children ran to Maria's bedroom to seek protection for the storm.

the play is wrong about the thunder lightening part, the original didnt show tht in the movie when they were singing "My Favorite Things", The Lonely Goatherd came after whn the kids wanted to show a play to the Captain instead but yea the play in this video did it wrong
Grace Kim no they didn't do this wrong... In the play ' My Favorite Things ' is sung as a duet with Maria and the mother of the Abby.. I forgot her name. 😂 but in the play they sing this song in the thunderstorm. So no they did not do it wrong it's just different.

In the original stage production, this song was in fact performed here. My Favorite Things was performed earlier when the Reverend Mother sent Maria to the von Trapp home.
