  • Growing trout caviar in your backyard!
17 years I was working for a trout hatchery. I knew there was a lot to learnt there but I would have never thought being able to grow trout eggs in my backyard one day!
Aquaponics is a real game changer, it allows to keep a stock of genitor fish in our garden.
Today we are collecting some trout caviar (ovocytes to be more precise) from the holistic aquaponics.
This is very exciting! Once collected and salted, spread it on a toast! This is simply delicious…

Goodness gracious. I am in Canberra but I do it in IBCs and summers are challenging. I should have dug out a deep pond in the beginning.

Wow that is so cool, what volume of water is needed to keep trout?

They can be grown in a relatively low volume but I recommend a minimum of 1000L

That was really inspiring, thank you. Those eggs look absolutely delicious! I'd really like to create a system like that but not sure if it would work here in southern Portugal, I think it might be too warm. It's 39 degrees here today. Also, I have no experience whatsoever. Would it be better to start with an IBC system and then create one of these systems later?

Hello Shadiya, starting from an IBC is a good option top start. However in the long term inground is better for temperature regulation

Hello Jonathan, i got a question about the eggs who have the dot or spot that you talk about, you said that they are note good. You mean for eating or for breeding ?
Merci pour ta réponse si tu vois ce commentaire, un bonjour d'Alsace ! 😉

Salut! Yes the dot on the eggs indicate they are slightly old and not good for fecundation. However they are OK to be consumed on a piece of toast.
      Bonjour aux Alsaciens :)

I heard that you should use plastic instead of metals because it changes the taste of caviar. Is that true?

Do you think goldfish eggs could work?

    • @AquaponicsRevolution
      @AquaponicsRevolution  Před 2 lety

Goldfish eggs are extremely small and are sticky. I don't think anyone is consuming them.

Very cool. How often do you need to take the eggs from an adult female?

May I assist you in your english pronounciation? It is "ma - ture", like the Italian, "ma" (but) and ture as in "pure". Thankyou for sharing. It is one of the things that I plan to do.
