I think exchange Line ID from the start is common, probably only Japanese has a habit that they need to get really close to do

Twitter is king in Japan. Instagram not so much since oversharing isn't a Japanese trait. LINE is the go-to messaging app and Niconico is as big as CZcams.

Just usual ID thing. Whether it's for work, family, or friends, most of Indonesian people always use WhatsApp for some reasons lol
We use WhatsApp in Spain too (and Telegram in a lower scale) nobody uses Line here
@@justawanderingoldman7699 Line was very popular back in 2013-2016. That's what we used in indo for mostly everything other than formal/official stuff, which we use WhatsApp for example like contacting professor/teacher.
I'm Mexico, some classrooms have WhatsApps so the teacher can answer questions or assign homework through it too

Actually yes, but to cop with other branches and for easy voice call, etc. Discord is better since its basically made for gamers/streamers after all.

It's very likely that it's because they're all nerds constantly on their PC's, for both work and hobby time. Especially when all their friends are too. Why use line when you have multiple discord servers and private chats where 99% of the people you talk to on a daily basis use it as well.
Maybe one day in a rom-com manga, we'll see a "can I get your discord ID?".

It is like WhatsApp. But unlike the number, there is a proper ID for the account, not exactly the phone number. It's the text app used by oriental people.
Depends. On country. Line mainly in Japan and taiwan due to SoftBank pushing it strongly in those country.
Korea uses Kakaotalk, a local creation.
Viber used to strong in some regions but slowly got beat out by whatsapp

Adding a lil bit more, especially Japanese they’re uncomfortable to change their “default” app also well as they’ve used LINE for decades. So it will be like asking us to move from using CZcams into using Bilibili.

I've heard of WhatsApp but far as I know it's not very popular in the U.S. since we just use our cell phones.
Whatsapp is popular for those who have family outside of the US like in Mexico or some parts of Europe and Asia. If you don't fit in that category, you use Snapchat, Facetime or good old fashioned phone numbers
Basically majority of South America, Mexico, and Central America use WhatsApp, Line is common in Japan and some parts of Asia, China uses Wechat a lot, then there’s telegram that’s a fit for sort of every country lol. Here in the US I’d say WhatsApp is more common due to the heavier Hispanic/latin population
