- The Metra Electric consists of a mainline to University Park, plus 2 branch lines: the South Chicago Branch and the Blue Island Branch. Both branches have a significant number of crossings, and in this video we'll look at the Blue Island Branch. This crossings on this line unlike the South Chicago branch all have mechanical bells on them which is real treat in this day and age. The majority are different styles of WCH bells, plus a good number of Safetran bells are thrown in. Sit back and enjoy some mechanical bell goodness.

“Oops! all Cabcars!”
Also riding the metra electric will always be my favorite line to ride. Feels so much faster and smoother. Funnest metra ride ever. My next trip will be to university park then 93rd street south chicago. I also love to ride the 'L'. So far I've ridden the blue, brown, red 'n' purple together, green and pink for only a couple stops lol
14:05 when I used to ride the bus when I was in school this was what I always dreamed of happening at every crossing lol
I was riding the bus for a field trip, and I think the top of our bus got scraped by a railroad crossing. I definitely could see an oncoming train.
This actually happened when a CN train was working and switching. We stopped and as soon as we stopped the crossing activated. And then the train stopped on the crossing multiple times.
Awesome job,keep it up
Great WC Hayes mechanical bells on these signals
Man there was alot going on during that last video of the last RR crossing huh?? First the gate gets stuck on the electrical wire(thank goodness nothing happened as a result of that) and then the doors didn't wanna close on the first car of the 2nd train and they had to close them manually!! And in the end no one was harmed in the making of this video!! 🙂🙂
I have seen and drove past the Metra Electric line but I would like to go back there and railfan for a day or two
Nice video!
This gate whent down faster than te other
Ok so at the division and oak street railroad crossing, the train has stopped to pickup some passengers and the gate is still down. Clearly that needs to be changed so that it goes back down when the train leaves the station
At one time there was talk of discontinuing this branch.
21:44 we’re u trying to help the gate?
20:19 Its Stuck!
12:30
20:06 Whoops.

Obvious note: if this happens call 911, or the number on the blue tag
