  • John Kramer is the engineering mastermind known as Jigsaw, who was responsible for the loss of at least 57 victims. How did Kramer's past turn him into one of the most feared horror villains?
► Subscribe: goo.gl/DT39UP (Don't forget to turn on deathbell notifications!)
Born in 1954, John Kramer would eventually become the most iconic serial criminal that the Metropolitan Police Department would ever come up against. Although he is rarely the one to physically harm his victims, Kramer exhibits the behavior of a psychopath. The name Jigsaw derives from cutting Jigsaw pieces from the flesh of his failed victims as a symbol for the missing piece of their survival instinct.
Looking through his entire 52 year history, we can start to put together some of the puzzle that makes up the life of Jigsaw. The obscure details of his early life and his fascination with developing a religion or cult are just a few of the many pieces necessary to understand how the main antagonist of the Saw franchise came to be.
In this video, I'll be analyzing the entire life of John Kramer, including his marriage to Jill Tuck, the creation of his games, the disciples he raised to carry on his legacy, and his ultimate downfall. We'll also be looking at the traps, from the iconic reverse bear trap, to John's personal favorite: the rack and more!
For my analysis, I'll only using the canon material (the Saw films and short films: Full Disclosure Report and The Scott Tibbs Documentary). The other material, like the comic, Saw: Rebirth, and the video games, Saw and Saw II: Flesh and Blood, aren't considered canon, but there are certain non-contradictory clues we can use from them to make inferences about John's story. I'll even use the Saw soundtracks for part of my analysis.
I believe this may be the most accurate timeline of the Saw universe on the internet!

Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

I kinda get his logic. By surviving the a trauma it might shed different light on your other problems, like addiction or depression(i know depression could be chemical but still a trauma might cure it cause a trauma is also a strong chemical shift in the brain)

    • @carolyndamish1601
      @carolyndamish1601 Před 11 měsíci +31

I suffer from addiction and he’s completely right. Addiction stems from trauma and if you go through almost dying it makes ur other trauma (ex abuse; rape) the trauma that makes you use drugs, you will realize you can be stronger than your trauma and live. Being chemically addicted is easy to get over, you will continue to do drugs until you heal your trauma. Hey I might just do more drugs because of all the trauma he gave me in the traps BAHAHA

    • @xMary96

AND it is effective! I used to struggle with depression and not wanting to live, but then someone hurt me (will not go into details because it is graphic and personal) and I barley made it out alive. At the moment I thought I was going to die, I wanted nothing more than to live and was fighting for my life. I have PTSD now, and while it is difficult to cope with, it changed my view on life and death. I have always been a Saw fan always thought if I ended up in a trap it would change my way of thinking. I do not want to like those who said "he was brutal but his heart was in the right place" because what he and other does are messed up and cannot be excused (Even though this is just movies), BUT I will admit that I guess I had the reaction John was looking for with his victims; The will to live, and change. This is suck a freaking weird message, but I thought it could be interesting for others to see in a different perspective of someone who went through something traumatic that almost took my life, but ended up changing me, both in good and bad ways.

With that bit at the end, I think the key thing that John was missing that made him on the same level as his victims was an appreciation for his own life.
He gets diagnosed with cancer and tries to kill himself, yet instead of appreciating the time he has left and perhaps spending it with his wife or maybe even trying for another kid, he doubles down on his beliefs that he can make others appreciate their lives as much as he thinks he does by putting them through the same torment he experienced. Instead of dying surrounded by friends and family he knew well, he was killed by a man who experienced the same torment as him in an abandoned and cold reminder of his past. Instead of working to create a lasting impact on society through his work and philanthropy, he died and left behind a legacy of blood and pain. John, for all his talk of others needing to appreciate their lives, didn’t have the same appreciation for his own.
There’s a difference between appreciating your life and wanting to stay alive, and John couldn’t see the difference.

There’s a major flaw in john’s logic. John theorizes that putting people in deadly situations to force them to survive a deadly trap that, through mostly through self harm (or killing another as in the case of the dr and Amanda), will give his victims the “will to live” and rehabilitate them, therefore give them a new appreciation for life. Just as it did for him.
John’s logic is flawed because his premise is wrong. John was suicidal and trying to kill himself. He survived through dumb luck, then had to REMOVE the stick before crawling to safety. Most of his victims do not survive for the mere fact that NONE of his victims were trying to kill themselves to begin with. Many of them were given only a few minutes to assess the situation while still suffering from the affects of being drugged. For someone who seemed to pride himself of his own intelligence and understanding of human behavior, he failed to account for the fact that the trauma of being abducted, drugged and placed in a deadly situation, would most certainly cause people to react poorly, thereby causing them to fail their “test”. John only had to pull a stick out of his chest after a crash HE caused trying to kill himself. He set deadly traps to kill people in the most horrific way possible if they couldn’t access the situation and mutilate either themselves or kill another to survive. Basically, he wasn’t looking to instill the will to survive. He was testing for the same sociopathy in others that he himself had. His so-called “code of honor” was the justification he needed to punish, I mean help the people who wronged him in life.

His original stated goal of reforming people that didn't seem to have the will to live quickly turned to righteous judgement of people and society. His games with multiple people definitely involved more than just "do what you can to survive" and instead was about seeing if people could work together, forgive, etc. He definitely evolved over time, both in order to escalate, and to justify the escalation to himself, as well as justifying broadening his scope to include police that were after him, etc.

See, Michael Myers will kill you if he comes across you. No witnesses & all. Same with Jason. Freddy Kruger is going after folk as revenge for what happened to his human form.
But John Kramer will seek you out & make up reasons to convince himself you deserve it. It's my not fault I have depression cause my son died - but I'm being told it is by this random dude who's making me mutilate myself & others that I was wrong to be upset, knowing that if I wasn't upset, he'd be telling me I moved on too fast.
He picks a targets & does anything but admit he chose a person to torture for fun. It puts him closer to IT on the asshole villain scale.

Jeff's test being John's last is symbolic. Both men lost their child to accidents caused by the carelessness of others. John wanted to see if Jeff could forgive and move on in ways John was never really able to.
Jeff failing his test and being unable to move on is a mirror of John dwelling on what happened to his own child and taking revenge on Cecil.
Jeff killing John and losing his wife to the collar and ultimately dying as a result also mirrors how John, unable to move on, lost his wife and ultimately set him on the path to die because John was also unable to move on.
Jeff would have been John's greatest accomplishment had Jigsaws method worked.

I just noticed that the apprentices who interact with each other are the ones who failed. Hoffman and Amanda were both in each other’s way and both wanted to get rid of the other more than focusing on John’s will and legacy. Same goes for Jill, once she started getting involved with Hoffman and the others she was dragged to death like the others. It’s only Gordon and Logan who hadn’t interacted with other apprentices and had simply focused on what John taught them that survived. It seems like the Jigsaw mantle is a cursed one where you have to stay pure and true to yourself to survive

If it weren’t for the damage and trauma his wife and baby suffered. His son very well could of survived outside of utero with minimal to little intervention by the hospital.
