How to replace PCB in the Superfan BLDC ceiling fan?

- Tutorial video on replacing the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) present inside Superfan. Troubleshooting Superfan is much simpler than a conventional ceiling fan. By following this tutorial you can easily replace the PCB board by yourself. Follow the video for a step by step troubleshooting procedure. A step-by-step guide to install a new electronic drive on a Superfan:
Your superfan has been designed to be easily serviceable. The following guide walks you through the steps of the repair. In case of assistance our customer care would love to assist you, please call 9498056600 (working hours: 9 am to 6 pm)
Tools required:
1. Tester
2. Phillips head screwdriver( Star head) -1/4” inches
3. Flathead screwdriver - 4mm
4. Nose plier (optional)
Preparation:
Please take the following precautions while removing the Superfan from the ceiling.
1. Use a stable stool or ladder to access the Superfan.
2. Verify that the input supply to the Superfan is OFF or disconnected.
3. Superfan weighs about 3kg, hold the fan by gripping the down rod on one hand, and another supporting the bottom of the motor.
4. Place the Superfan on a soft surface and ensure the blades are not touching the surface.
Follow the video tutorial along with this guide:
1. Pull out the Superfan Logo (IR sensor cover) using a flat head screwdriver or tester from the motor.
2. You can find a plastic strip connector on top of the motor, attached to the motor shaft. Disconnect the Phase (red) and Neutral (black) wires from the strip connector. The strip connector is the plastic connector on top of the motor.
3. Unscrew the strip connector from the motor shaft.
4. Dismantle the motor’s top cover by unscrewing all the three screws.
5. Remove the top cover of the motor, now you will see a green electronic drive board (PCB board) attached to the bottom.
6. Disconnect the U, V, W (Red, Yellow, and Blue) wires from the terminal connector. The terminal connector is a plastic connector, seen on the corner of the electronic drive board.
7. Pull out the Phase (Red) and Neutral (Black) wires from the bottom of the motor shaft.
8. Remove the IR connector by removing the wires plugged in. The IR connector can be found on the board close to the shaft.
9. After disconnecting the wires, pull out the IR board using a tester and slowly remove the IR board (small whiteboard at the face of the motor) along with its connecting wires.
10. Unlock the PCB board by rotating and unlocking from the shaft. Remove the PCB board from the motor. A small plastic lock that locks the PCB board with the motor shaft. By turning the PCB in either one of the directions, it unlocks the PCB from the motor shaft.
11. Insert the new board. Hold the board on the edges to avoid static discharge.
12. Rotate the new board to lock the PCB into the motor shaft. Fit the plastic lock into the motor shaft by rotating the board.
13. Connect the U (Red), V (Yellow), and W (Blue) wires of the motor in the right order to the terminal connector, ref step 6.
14. Insert the IR board to the motor by inserting the wires through the motor shaft hole.
15. Connect the IR board to the connector such that the pins are connected in the right direction.
16. Insert the Phase (Red) and Neutral (Black) wires inside the shaft and pull the wires out through the top.
17. Ensure the wires are away from the motor covers.
18. Assemble the top cover and screw it (three screws).
19. Reassemble the strip connector and the Phase (red) and Neutral (black) wires. Ref step 2 to know about the strip connector.
20. Insert the Superfan logo and press lock it. Ensure all the three press locks are aligned to the press locks found in the motor’s bottom cover.

Superfan’s are amazing I have been using for more then 10 years, my son had bought them for his House in Gurugram seeing the excellent working and economical use age I replaced all my fans in my home in Agra, sadly in India people generally only believe in cost and not the quality.

I have had to recently replace the PCB on a Superfan recently. It was a 7+ years old fan running smoothly until the PCB gave up.
The steps show above are similar what I to go through, but the video makes it very easy.
The challenges I faced -
* One of the screw was not something I could open with screw drivers/allen keys I had. It need a special allen key (with hole at the center) which is extremely difficult to find (atleast I tried in various websites and shops near me in Hyderabad). Finally asked one of the electrician to open it which was done by him, but only after damaging the screw (not the threads).
* Opening the top lid was quite tricky and took a good 5-10 mins to open it (trying various options). It definitely wasn't easy it was shown here. Friendly advice - Do not force it open with screwdriver or prying tools. You will dent the fan and damage the paint. I held the bottom between by legs and twisted the top part with hand.
* The older PCB and new PCB are different and sits on different plastic panel. And the the connector for power supply was at a different place. The wire length from winding was not sufficient. Had to cut the plastic panel (not the PCB) to get the wire attached to the connector.
* The smaller PCB (light and remote control receiver) at the bottom was an extremely difficult fit. I had to scrap some of the plastic on the screw type element on which smaller PCB sits to push it in.
* The connector from smaller PCB had to be pushed in a certain orientation to ensure connectivity is good and right. Otherwise, fan wouldn't turn on.
* It was quite difficult to pull out the wire that connects to the power supply, through the piping and out. Had to struggle quite a bit.
Having said that, kudos to Superfan for making this video and sending me the PCB (no one to service this in Hyderabad). The delivery was prompt and well packaged.
If you are DIY person and willing to spend a couple of hours, you could this.
Barring the special allen key, all you need is the right screw driver, a tester and a ladder/stool to remove the fan from the ceiling. Fan is relatively light, so should be fairly straightforward to remove with some help people around.

I am using 5 superfans for about 6 years I think. Super fan repair policy during warranty period was excellent. I will definitely recommend super fan for my friends and family. Out of the three screws of the top round lid, one is having different head and cannot be opened using any ordinary screw driver.

My fan has a different screw which cannot opened through the normal screw driver. Allen key type with a hole in the centre, not able to replace the PCB. Can you respond to my query on this. How to remove the screw
