using the shrek scene for falling forever is GENIUS. Dua needs to make an mv based on that. would love a music vid for these walls, falling forever and happy for you
that song is so dramatic (in the best way possible) it definitely gives soundtrack to me
@@naomi.cannibalIT DOESS!! ❤
I think people are disappointed with this album because they went into it with too high of expectations because of the bar set by future Nostalgia. I think this album is a VERY good follow up to Future Nostalgia. The production on this album is 9/10 for me and her vocals shined the most on this album.
I'm disappointed because Dua said it would be psychedelic... There's nothing psychedelic or interesting about this album. It's the definition of playing it safe
I liked the album it's album of the year for me
I disagree with that. I think she missed in this one and if you watch the interviews she describe the album as this psychedelics album….. There’s nothing of that sort in this album and the album sounds like she did 3 steps back into what she did in Future Nostalgia. There’s no bad songs on this but there’s not enough growth for an artist who claims this album was going to be a step away from what was there before. Keep in mind that this is what she’s been saying for the past 5 months. She even described it as a new sound for her…. Clearly she’s not hearing herself at all. I truly believe she’s not listening to her own words when she’s talking about the album… it a bit confusing…… I love the album’s positivity vibe but that bar was set by her…. Not us! A 9/10 is crazy 6/10 I think it’s fair.
People are disappointed more so because of the claims. We were under the impression that this album would different. But it's not
I knew that would happen. It's not realistic to have an album that massive and expect that she can have that sort of success and sound over and over again.
Dua is going so underrated this era and its such a shame. This may not be as iconic as Future Nostalgia (then again, that was going to be hard to top regardless, both in terms of quality and success) but this is still a really good and enjoyable album imo, especially for the summer! I'm claiming End of an Era, Houdini, Falling Forever (HER VOCALS), Whatcha Doing, Training Season, and Happy For You
Right FN was gonna be such a hard era to follow up regardless, but these ones have me yearning for summer for sure
Dua lipa is 3/3 for her albums for me, i love it, hope she keeps doing her thing
I like the album but I think the concept for it was changed last minute. I was expecting the tracks to sound similar to Houdini, but instead Houdini kind of sticks out as being different than the others. There’s some comments on Twitter saying that maybe Dua’s label forced her to go down a more traditional pop route like her first album for this. If that’s the case then that’s disappointing as I think she could’ve pulled off the 70s psychedelic vibe that Houdini was giving.
I absolutely agree 💯
Dua does well when she leans into mid-tempo, funk inspired songs. The girl makes good pop music all round. Imma stick beside her.
Couldn't have said it any better
I really like this album, i lowkey wished she replaced the singles with the extended version, especially with houdini 😢😅😂
naurr for some reason the Houdini extended is the only one I don’t like more than the original single
Yesss i agree i prefered the extended mixes
I bought the álbum and i really like it. It's not as good as future nostalgia was but that doesn't mean that we can't enjoy the álbum. At least i enjoy the álbum very much. And the cover is so cute.
Yess FN was such a lightning in the bottle moment! This one’s still fun and danceable but it def not as punchy/ clubby
I for one think that Dua Lipa’s very intelligent stance on pop music mirrors Madonna’s work in the 90’s (to a certain entent)… I like her songs and artistic choices from Day 1!
I like that she keeps it just anonymous enough for me to not be thinking about her the whole time I’m listening and I can have my own interpretation (or just dance lmao)
She's iconic popstar, my favourite
Hmmmm dua lipas image/music is pretty safe, Madonna was already pretty artistically daring by the 90s and more intentional with pushing boundaries.
@@naomi.cannibalI actually think that anonymity is why the album is falling off. People aren’t invested in her as a person so when the hits stop hitting she doesn’t have a solid fan base foundation to rely on.
@@jakejax8032 I can see that- I’d think the kind of confusing promotion if anything is the reason it’s “falling off” but as for my personal pop enjoyment, a more anonymous bop is typically gonna be more my thing. It is interesting tho how we’re in this landscape where a lot of people wanna consume the “artist” just as much as their art, or feel like it at least
For me, this is her best album. I love the beach, bossa nova and city pop vibe of the album and the live instruments. Falling Forever is also my favorite track, I also love Maria, it sounds very ABBA. I'm looking forward to Dua's performance at Glastonbury!
What do you mean by City Pop vibe of the album?
ngl, i expected something more darker, especially her doing psychedelic music, i was also confused with the roll out and I'm sure most people were as well. I didn't know which direction shr was heading, singles were all over the place as well, if thus was gonna be a summer recoord, then hudini shouldn't have been the lead single, the music videos as well were so boring, i couldn't really get behind it.the music is good tho. I just expected something more.
French exit is my fav off this album!!
It is a throwback to those days when you heard an album and only three good were songs on it.
Wished this album got more attention. Its more laid back, giving summer breeze vibes. Definitely more mature, happy vibes 😊
The Shrek scene connection 😂 Love your creations and sight you have for culture. Hi from the UK!
I really liked the album but idk why people keep comparing it to future nostalgia which is in my opinion less refined than RO 😅
RO has so much better production details on every song! And sounds expensive 🤩✨
I'm agree with you
I thought it was a good album, not as negative on it as others, tho I understand why, as it is disappointing relative to expectations of the album (she said it’d be a psychedelic sounding album, it wasn’t) and against future nostalgia
For sure!! I don’t think this album is what it was marketed as in the early days (I could be wrong) and I’m also wondering how the rollout being almost 6 months long changed things- bc it wouldn’t have made sense to promote a vibe like this over the winter, so I wonder when the change was made
You did such a great job describing this album. I love how you went about each song, both lyrically and in terms of production. Not only in this video, but in all your videos, they are so well structured and I love listening to them. I enjoyed most of this album; I love how easygoing it is. Yes, it's very hard to replicate the success of "Future Nostalgia," but I don't think the point of this album should be topping that one. Instead, it should be about establishing Dua Lipa as a valid artist who may have longevity.
I can’t believe it features the shark from the shallows. Groundbreaking appearance lol 🤣
honestly ur right about the adele comparison on happy for you. it sounds like a song you would hear in like the mid 2010s. something stripped back and minimal before the acoustic sad song epidemic
She came again and slayed again, I love this album with all the summer vibes it brings! 😍
anything for love needs to be extended expeditiously. one of the best pop songs i’ve heard in years
THIS!!! I hope we get an album extended version of each song, I just know Anything for love(extended) is gonna EAT SO BAD!!!!
I absolutely love this album. Every song has catchy melodies and grows on me as I listen to them on repeat. Bought the CD after a few streams.
Great job. Album shows Dua's maturing. So funny I really like Happy For You, for me not having a similar life experience it still brings out sad emptions in me.
Dua definitely opened up and got personal with this album
Happy for you is my favorite track, it feels like plunging into cold refreshing water, like gaining clarity and moving on
I like the album and I think its cohesive. She also sounds great. I just think that the vibe or tone of the album was not explained properly, so some people may feel a little mislead.
Just done listening to the album. It is honestly better than I expected since the singles (especially Houdini) are slightly underwhelming, though they work better in context with the album. I do think Dua Lipa mismarketed it as psychedelic or different, but I think she still delivered. I was expecting heavy disco influence since that's what she's known for but I love how "chill" and mellow it sonically is.
i really really enjoyed this album!! i think the singles are great and the other tracks are just as good if not better!
This album just isn’t good as future nostalgia, and I believe it’s okay. Future nostalgia was Dua hungry to get to the top, I feel like now she’s made it she has the right to have a chill body of work, where she’s prioritised her enjoyment over being hungry for extreme success. And I feel like she’s done that this time! She’s expressed so much within interviews how much fun she had creating radical, she deserves the laid back era.
She also said in interviews that she was gonna make a psychedelic uk rave pop-esque album. Dua deserves a comfortable spot but also she acted like she was still hungry in em interviews until it came out to where it was the complete opposite sadly
my partner didnt like future nostalgia so he hasnt tuned into this album and it makes me sad because this is a massive improvement
Whelp, I need to go listen to Miss Dula Peep’s album
yesss I wanna know what u think!
Happy for you was a grower for me overall. I can’t stop listening to it. But in general if she squeezes more out of RO, I would love to see These walls, Happy for you and Falling Forever as upcoming singles.
I liked the album a lot, I would rank it second in Dua's discography. I don't think any of the songs are terrible, none reach the lowest lows from Future Nostalgia or the first LP, but not much variety in themes or sound, and no song reach the highs from the first 2 albums.
What I think was the major issue issue with this rollout was the promotion and how it set the expectations for something "better". Considering the producers and the initial comments about the project, nothing really reached the hype for the "70s rave/psychodelich from UK inspired sound" it was promoted to be, and the first 2 singles doesn't even sound like the rest of the album. The songs don't even live to name of the album.
If Dua and Dua's team was honest, and just say that it was going to be a good dance album, with a summer-love-and-breakup kinda feeling to it, and set the realistic expectations, I think the album would have been received better.
But I guess that doesn't create hype for the project, and companies don't know how to promote something that's basically just the continuation of an artist career. Like, this album doesn't really sounds the same as her other projects, but is not as groundbreaking as it was portrayed to be.
Anyway, the album was good, and Dua's career will be fine. Hopefully next album is more evolved that this one, and even maybe we'll get an "extended" version of this album, because the extended versions of the singles sounded a lot better, in my opinion.
idk why but i was high like the fourth time i listened to this album and EVERY song clicked for me lmao, def a fun album to listen to high (and sober)
I absolutely loved this album I loved the whole feel I don’t know why people aren’t supporting this album as much.
I think people are just emotionally attached to future nostalgia. like, song for song this album blows FN out of the water, and I fucking love FN.
Falling forever was my first initial favorite and still is. There’s such a shot adrenaline I get when I hear it.
shot of adrenaline yup exactly!!
The promo is so bad I didn’t even realise the album was out until I saw this video…
I actually love this album more than Future Nostalgia, lol. I was upset it wasn't as long and the singles weren't that interesting to me so i expected to be disappointed but I loved the experimentation she had with the songs (end of an era, french exit, anything for love, these walls). I personally was getting tired of her milking the retro disco sound tbh bc t had been going on for 3+ years at this point.
I get why she was doing it but I was just ready to move on.
I usually tend to prefer darker moody sounds but this album just hits for some reason. But I will say this era isn't nearly as cohesive in terms of world building like FN was.
Thank you Naomi! I was eagerly awaiting this one!
Naomi ain never lied!! Maria Maria, Dear Maria count me in, Maria (Xtina), Ave Maria..and ofc many more
not the Shrek and "falling forever" layering !!! 😂
you fr are so gorgeous! I bre-bought Radical Optimism
Nothing but straight facts in this video 🗣🔥💯
I played the album in the kitchen with my dad and he was shocked at how good her voice is. I feel like she’s an underrated vocalist. She’s got a great lower register as well as having a good range.
Honestly, I love this album. I'm not sure if I'd call it better than FN but I would go as far as saying it's more consistent. FN falters near the end of the tracklist for me (imo, Break My Heart is just a worse Don't Start Now, Good In Bed is admirably different but a little weird and something I have to be in the mood for and Boys Will Be Boys is good but doesn't fit the album and feels tacked on the end for the sake of having the cliché ballad closer). RO feels like one, unified body of work from start to finish and I don't notice any real dips in quality. Houdini is my least favourite song on it just for being similar to her previous work and even that song has grown on me a lot.
My initial favourites are Training Season (very catchy, the single that really got me invested in this album), Whatcha Doing (I love a groovy bassline) and Happy For You (genuinely moves me and despite being close to a ballad, doesn’t feel like a random addition at all) 💖
End of an era = best song
Nvm French exit is
And these walls
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, finally someone who's not trashing the album & comparing every single thing to FN, like that was here Magnum Opus but as a standalone RO is still really dope & the best one this year so far!!!
Havent listened but like what im hearing
I love Radical Optimism with Future Nostalgia! It’s a Summer album just like Endless Summer Vacation!
I get people wanted a Future Nostalgia part II but I think it was a very solid album and hidden gems.
My top favorites: End of an Era, Whatca Doing, Happy for You, Maria, Anything for Love, and of course Houndi
9:15 - it reminds me of songs like “Be OK” by Ingrid Michelson 😂❤️ I like French Exit for her vocals throughout the verses and the sort of “nostalgia” I can reference back to from listening to songs like this heavy in the 2000s. Not my favorite, but definitely scraping my top 5.
Falling forever is my favorite song. I love the intro of the song 🎵. I wish she'll make an mv for it lol
I'M GONNA BE FOR REAL WITH Y'ALL.
AT MY INITIAL LISTEN , I WASN'T GAG ON THE ALBUM CAUSE I WHANTING THE OVER ALL ALBUM TO SUND LIKE "ILLUSION" BUT THE MORE AND MORE I LISTENING TO THE SONGS WAS THE MORE AND MORE I LIKE THE ALBUM.😊
IT'S FRESH , SUMMARY AND STILL KINDA NOSTALGIC TO ME.
MY FAVES ARE
1- illusion
2- Houdini
3- watcha doing
4- training saison
5- French exit
IT'S A 8/10 FOR ME❤
Falling Forever high note reminds me of that song Avril Lavigne sang for the Soundtrack of Alice in Wonderland
I llooveeee Maria, so catchy!
At this point this is my least favorite Dua album, but it's still solid and enjoyable for me and obviously it could still grow on me and like you said, Dua is a deluxe album girlie, so I'm intrigued to see what's still to come.
great watch. I like the album, the tracklisting could be better . My fav is Falling forever.
I mistakingly went into it with expectations even tho ive never done that, i didnt quite enjoy it until i went into it 2 more times with a clear mind and i LOVED it each time!havent heard much if anytjing about her album tho sadly
Illusion is the best song on the album 💯🔥
Whatcha Doing is the best song on the album, in my opinion.
Watcha Doing sounds like a kpop song, imagine TWICE or fromis_9 having this one.
Someone said it right, it’s like the direction changed
It Is AWESOME And ❤🎉❤🎉❤ Excellence 💯💯💯💯✨️✨️💞💝
Probably my biggest disappointment to her is how I expected her third album too high and ambitious, where the actual is just another dance-pop album with 'edgy' lyrics and inconsistent concepts, meanwhile i'm still questioning where the psychedelic, britpop, trip hop & all things like massive attack etc. she was talking about. Houdini was a great debut when i listened to it, and i think that she'll back with darker synthpop dance tracks and i find that the song itself has quite unique song structure, although i didn't hear any psychedelic thing on that song. The second single "Training Season" caught me off guard of how the sound become more light & radio friendly, sounds like any of ABBA songs with bouncy Europop influence, made me think she's probably will take all 70s pop landscape, not only psychedelic sound in her album. And then she released Illusion and like the hell she's actually want to give? Like why in sudden the theme becomes summery vibe with Daft Punk & Kyle Minogue's typical late 1990s/early 2000s dance song? The album artwork & overall tracks then ended up something summery, straight up confusing me how messed up the concept of her new era is.
Sure the album isn't that bad, but the amount of baits really fed me up. The only thing that is radical from her is her Future Nostalgia album, where she brought back the revival of 70s & 80s disco into modern production (nu-disco) where you can see the pretty significant impact on pop music, while Radical Optimism doesn't seem anything radical beside dance-pop tracks with 'meaningful' lyrics which already done many years in the past. This even sounds like her debut album but basically more dancey & less depressing
Hey Naomi,Sia has just released her Reasonable Woman album, please make a vid on it🙏
Idc what others say but this album is my favourite so far
Ngl I was a little disappointed with the album. But then again this is my first time listening to a dua lipa album at full
Never been this early withiut a notification lol
Ocean blvd not getting a review from u is a big loss for the culture
where's my these walls legion at
Hi, I am helping push a streaming/buying/Tiktok party for Ciara's #justiceforfantasyride and I was wondering if you could talk about the album and the sabotage that happened that happened around it.
french exit remind me of the cheetah girls
Bossanova?
❤
I unfortunately think Dua needs to change her sound. I think she has too many dance/retro hits and it makes the album sound like something we’ve heard even if it’s truly new and innovative.
Yeah this album is the epitome of cute chill summer bops. the equivalent of miley's summer vacation album. There's no obvious hits besides the singles but in my personal opinion this album is mostly made of background type of music. She should have never presented it as a psychedelic rave album, the only touches of that is within... what.. houdini? definitely not presented in the right way. only saved 2 songs beyond the singles. its just okay. not bad, not terrible. It's Okay leaning more on good (but that's because i already like dua so ima bit bias). 5/10. 6 if im being generous.
Afraid to say I'm not really vibing with the album :/ it's not bad or anything, I just think it lacks identity, sounds a bit generic. The singles are the top 3 tracks and the only other ones that caught my ear were end of an era and falling forever, but that's just me. Glad other people like it tho xx
I will say her vocals seem to have gotten even better though, so that's great!!
@@lulujonesomg I noticed her vocals being more strong this album too!
@@Rayaannikr?? On falling forever I almost got like 90s Eurovision vibes cause she was belting it haha (in a good way of course)
@@lulujones OMG YESS
random question but is your window open? if its not i think your room is haunted.
It’s been open every video
Second album almost never compares to the first. I always expect this. I like the album but is it on Future Nostalgia’s level? No.
Houdini and Training seasons are the only songs that don’t fit on the album to me. I wish she would’ve pushed whatcha doin and illusion as the main singles instead
I thought the songs on the album were going to be more like houdini. The album isnt bad, but i am a bit disappointed
She claimed this was going to be a psychedelics influence album. With an edgier sound……. There’s nothing here of that sort! The album itself full of Future Nostalgia left over and an overall underwhelming approach at sounds that feel half baked. Don’t misunderstand me , I don’t hate this one bit! I just feel like what she’s describing vs what we got is 2 different worlds…. The album doesn’t step away from anything that’s been touch before. If you put Dance the night away on here it would’ve made anything different…. It’s a bit unfortunate because she herself set this bar so high and when she’s talking about the albums meanings it just doesn’t make any sense at times….. the positive vibes and the sunny side up feeling is beautiful…… but don’t piss on my leg and tell me its raining….
i wasn't really anticipating the release of this album bc i felt like houdini and training season gave a more dark urban edgy vibe and then she comes out with this happy-go-lucky title and beach visuals i mean...choose a concept and stick to it
second!
the bright spots should be a 6 min video ....
First
I listened to it on Friday and it did not do S**T for me, I found it incredibly dry, even as a fan of all her work thus far. But this vid at least made me wanna give it another listen
So the general census in the streets is that this is flop era basically
People need to step away from the microscope and just enjoy the music. She's great
I had a thought yesterday that These Walls is very Eternal Sunshine coded. I wish we had gotten that Ari x Dua collab... maybe one day. 🥹
