Sza hating CTRL is INSANE! it’s so good and so personal. 😭
She’s full of shit for that. I’m sorry.
Are we surprised...SZA WHACK! Watch her hate SOS in 2 years😭🙄✋
I LITERALLLLY CAME TO SAY THIS EXACT SAME THING!! SZA....are you ok Ma'am?! BOMBASTIC UNWAVERING SEARING SIDE EYE!!!
she has the worst taste when it comes to her own music istg, she also would change F2F off SOS
As a long time SZA fan, I’m calling BS. She just wants to be different and quirky, like always!
Motivation was such a good solo debut song, like she ATE that era. It's understandable that it was "forced" but I love that she has a very strong work ethic regardless, like she wasn't half assing the choreography and performances.
true
I'm surprised Ariana Grande's "put your hearts up" wasn't mentioned. Every time someone asks her about it, she either diverts to something else and flat out says she hates that song.
She also said Why Try and Touch It are boring 😂
@@tokyoyoongi5538 Touch It is a masterpiece
I’ve mentioned it in other videos (and Ari’s songs were in pt 1)
Not Hayley Williams hating the single that broke her through to the mainstream. 😂 I can understand her feeling a little icky about the theme but in her defence she was a TEENAGER. Those are normal feelings and expressions for people in that age group. I wasn’t a nice teenager either
Right I don’t stand by everything I said/ did at 17, but I bet it’s also worse to have the “thing” still out there for people to critique
@@naomi.cannibal yeah I feel like most of us can learn to grow and unlearn all our past mistakes outside the public eye and not only that, its one of their biggest songs, shell always be scrutinized for it and have that mistake be out there for the world to see. I can see why she would hate it and what it stands for, even though me and many others don't blame her for it and hell Misery Business is still a banger imo.
@@brenzo2224she bowed to pressure to shelve it. So for years and years she saw nothing wrong with it until people started pointing it out on Tumblr? I don’t buy that at all. She should’ve just said it wasn’t from her POV - lots of great songs have been written from the pov of someone toxic.
I think the way she’s handled it now with letting the audience sing the wh*re lyric is honestly a perfect way to handle it. It’s such a huge song that as an audience member I’d be disappointed to not hear it. She’s still acknowledging her weird history with it but now it kinda exists as a song for her fans rather than for her.
@@Ashethetics Idk I don’t think it’s that weird for her to shelve it after seeing people hate on her for it, especially if she didn’t feel good about the lyrics her self. Then brought it back after like 4 years and her having grown from it and people wanting it to be back. Not to mention now when she sings it she always has a lil speech clarifying the bad messaging of the song and her disagreement with it.
In all fairness, I would understand why Ed Sheeran hates Shape of You.
Yeah, it's his biggest song but doesn't showcase his talents correctly at all. And it basically started the whole "hating Ed Sheeran" trend on social media.
I think CTRL is a cohesive album. I think thematically it touches on a type of insecurity that young women may feel in relationships before they really figure themselves out and gain confidence and understand their worth. I really liked the discussions with her grandma passing down her wisdom to her granddaughter about not letting men treat her stupidly and frivolously. To me, this album represents an aspect of (young) black femininity that came to me at a time where I could really vibe with it bc I was also in that boat and feeling insecure in myself and shit, not wanting to lose control
I agree! I would’ve never known it was made out of her existing songs bc it really seems like she and her team made a concept and built songs around it rather than what she said really happened
People don’t like Check On It?!?! It’s soo good, I went to see Pink Panther because of it lol
I’m suprise myself 😂 and seems like the baby hive like it too I didn’t know the old one hated it well I mean if those are truly fans and not haters deguised like always lol , and I don’t think if poeple didn’t like it would went #1 and for 5 weeks too
I love that song! The video was so beautiful 💖
Love Beyonce but I hate that song. Still my least favorite song she's ever released to this day. The vocals are monotonous and that buzzing synth that plays throughout the entire song is irritating 😭
Only reason I cared about PP
I listen to that song all the time and the video is ICONIC
I loved and still love Bulletproof. I remember catching the MV by accident on the tv one day and sang it everyday I think mainly because as a kid I was just in the beginning stages of being bullied relentlessly by my male peers. Also yes in for the kill is also my favorite too.
No frrr I remember those songs used to make me feel like a lil cyborg 😭
SAMEE!! i still love bulletproof, such a bop
I’ve never understood why Beyoncé doesn’t like check on it! It’s like one of my all-time favorite Beyoncé songs. It’s so fun!
Along with the video, it’s just too good!
All time favorite is crazy lol but It's a certified bop tho with a dope ass visual. I was obssessed with the mv as a kid. But is it one of her best work by any stretch. I don't know about that. She never even performs it either lol
Not my favorite song from her but the vídeo is gorgeous. I love pink, it's my favorite colour lol.
My least favorite Beyoncé song is get me bodied.
@@AngeBiampandou because she doesn’t like it and it’s annoying to sing live but she sounds great when she does!
@@dinasilva9263 😱 get me bodied is a BOP!!!
Kelly Rowland hating “Bug a Boo” is also mentioned a few times in her career
I get it lol
can’t lie.. I see where she comin from lol
A hit opening you up past your fanbase is something I never really thought about. Like you could be perfectly happy in your little bubble and then one hit can take that all away.
Not a Normani fan but Motivation is a really good song. It's pop done right.
I feel like songs like misery business and better than revenge are so relatable to someone when you’re a teenager and in your early 20s. I can understand how many had that mindset at that age. Internal misogyny is a concept many woman go thru in their earlier years. I totally understand advocating for female empowerment but when you’re 17 or even 23, you tend to have those feelings. I think it’s just apart of growing up. People would be hypocrites denying they never had a similar thought. We all go through it especially in high school and sometimes in college years too. Most of us didn’t start off being a “girls girl”, it takes time and growth to get to that point.
As someone who is turning 22, yeah pretty much
The last bit ‼️
I feel like these are songs that don’t have to have the concept of being a girls girl behind them. We should be able to make music about how upset we are at both parties over being cheated on. They weren’t being girls girls while helping cheat so why should these artists have to be girls girl to faceless, nameless person fans don’t know. As long as they’re not actively going to go harm someone I don’t see the problem. The hate over these songs/lyrics are so forced because it’s reasonable for anyone to feel that way, even a 45 year old because people feel things. Feelings ≠ taking action.
ETA: btw I agree with you
Dance Monkey is so annoying to me omg
That & The Middle are def on my nightmare playlist
Soooo annoying
One of the WORST songs EVER created I'm so serious...it's the bane of my existence
literally can’t even listen to the entire thing bc the voice is so grating
The fact that it has over 3 billion streams on Spotify is insane to me
Motivation is a bonafide HIT!! I know Normani wants to be a R&B girl but sis when you dropped motivation it was a hit vs the R&B songs she puts out prior..
Motivation is still going strong on my playlist 😔
As a Sza fan (from the early days) she be lying so much. She probably just says she doesn’t like that album because it’s the cool thing to do, to not like one of your projects and come off artistic 😂
yoooo as soon as i heard her commentary on CTRL i knew mother was trolling LOL. i can’t trust her for the truth anymore i would 100% believe she just said that to say it
Pure heroine is such a fire album. I have so many memories of listening to it as a teen with my dad.
CTRL was a fucking work of art and still remains one of my favourite albums. It’s so cohesive and polished and perfect I have no idea how she’s hating on it or how it was a random collection of songs I kinda don’t believe that. It’s perfect!!!
I love Normani's music so i would listen to anything she puts out. But I would've definitively liked to see her keep up with the pop records to garner a wider audience and then delve more into her rnb influences later on the album or on subsequent projects. Like "Dancing with a Stranger" and "Motivation" had everyone on their zoom but "Fair" and "Waves" are more underappreciated gems.
I don't understand why Lorde hates royals so much. It is definitely not her best but I still listen to it and enjoy it.
To be fair, she did say that she preferred *covers* of "Royals" over her original version! She's not a fan of the melodies.
The ones they hate the most we love the mostest 😂❤
I remember when I’d watch MTV and VH1 music videos before school, and when Check On It came on I could not change the channel fast enough
The music video was a MOMENT you hear me. I was obssessed with it when it came out too 😂
LOVE “Check On It!” Always have, it’s so fun and upbeat! This and Ciara’s “1,2 Step” were my faves in high school, lol!
18:00 Beyoncé saying that she doesn’t like check on it because it’s simple, and not in a catchy way, yet years later put out a song like 7/11 is Buck wild to me
Right cuz I loveeee check on it but don’t care for 7/11 at all
The Misery Business controversy just felt forced if I'm being completely honest.
IMO it was. The controversy came at a time when people were riding high off making celebrities and influencers “take accountability”. Which is why it washed through so quickly I think lol.
It 100% was. Around 2016 or so, there seemed to be this online crusade to lash out at any and every piece of old media that aged poorly and demand that the artist/TV show or movie director issue an apologize and recant for releasing something so distasteful. It was fucking ridiculous
@@Aeunax123Nah. She just matured. You can tell the people who refuse to grow, they think being problematic isn’t an issue.
@@kjh4496 she did grow for sure, I’m talking more about peoples response to it not hers. It felt like one moment people had a problem with it, next they didn’t.
Seeing Normani on thumbnail got me thinking does she even have enough song to choose?
😂😂
That part
this reminds me of sia’s whole situation where she was elevated to pop star status *against her consent* as she only wanted to be a writer, david guetta for example used her vocals for titanium in the official release despite her not wanting that
“Against her consent” Which artist doesn’t like their pockets full and be as relevant as possible be real
Not every artist likes all the eyes on them.
Oop, another great video by Naomi 🖤. Not SZA and Normani in the thumbnail chile.. omg
SZA hating CTRL will be the start of my villain arc. What do you mean?!?
aww. Hearing about Motivation breaks my heart. I've listened to her discography and in my opinion, it's her best song. I appreciate her potential artistry tho and understand that Motivation is perhaps not her. I just hope that Dopamine is good enough so she is not doomed to have her best song be a song that doesn't represent her 💀
Since CTRL is on the list, I'd like to add Amy Winehouse's Frank. Amy did not like her debut because she felt like too many people were involved in the creative process(which explain why only Winehouse, Salaam Remi, Mark Ronson and Paul O' Duffy for ''Wake Up Alone'' was involved in Back To Black). She even said that the album make her feel bitter, never listen to the album entirely and didn't own a copy in her house.
ooooooo first comment!!!! love this types of videos... also i think rihanna would have been great for shape of you.... also i still love royals!!
They may regret some songs, but i will never regret liking some of them. ❤ but at the end of the day songs are not only for the artists, they are for everyone. They became part of our lives, no matter what. But it's funny that sometimes the songs they don't like anymore are actually the songs i love the most.
I also love your channel, Naomi❤
21:58 omg speaking of that topic, on tge deluxe version of CRASH by Charli XCX has a song called "What You Think About Me" which speaks on her fans not enjoying the rollout of CRASH and spreading some hate online!
Damn Charli had to speak up❤
Halle doesn’t like 80/20 because it’s about cheating and she really didn’t wanna release it, I highly doubt she even acknowledges it 🤣🤦🏽♀️
Ariana doesn’t like Why Try because she thinks it’s boring..it’s one of my favorite songs of hers
I love motivation. Me personally think thanks the right direction for her to pursue but who am i to tell her
Great video I always love your content and how much effort and research you put into each one. 💓
You should do a video on Paramore’s timeline has a band. I feel like there’s a lot there and it got messy at some points 😬 maybe like a group/band line up change video 😮
YES for the new video idea I love it.. it's so many songs that fit that.
NOT THE BRAVADO SHOUTOUT? Now that’s TASTE!
Idc how huge and overplayed Shape Of You is…I think it’s such a great pop song. It’s a bop and it deserved the success idccc
get behind me bestieeee
Sza Ctrl I like! Check on it I like. Bootylicious didn't age well😂😂 but If I saw DC in concert right now I'm singing every word 😂😂
this makes me think of how a lot of kpop idols clearly lie about liking their own songs only because theyre obligated to plug them in casual conversation, would love a video thats like that
I am sure BTS has quite a few. They have a plethora of bangers but some stuff just hasn’t aged as well as other songs.
Taeyeon from Girls Generation has openly stated she don’t like Gee. Sorn from CLC also has said she don’t like CLC’s cute concepts. EXO members did not like Wolf either. So kpop idols can state they don’t like their songs.
Ellie Goulding apparently doesn’t like Burn very much
I got to see Paramore in 2022 on my birthday and honestly the music is so ingrained in us that it was great to hear the song. Even with that part.
I prefer check on it over 711 👀
really love your video topic choices! Algorithm, take notes
thank you for slaying and i like the idea for the artist vs critic/fan reception xxoo
I remember SZA saying in interviews that CTRL was originally centered around the song Consideration and when it was given away to Rihanna, she was confused about what to do with the album.
Hating “Check On It” is wild!!
Bulletproof was good. I love going in for the kill or tigerlily, Im not your toy. Listen to Automatic driver. Great to hear artists still making music.
CTRL is literally the one and only no skips album I’ve ever heard. She just be saying shit I can’t take her seriously when she’s already lying about random shit 24/7😶😶
I would like for you to do a ranking of the 1980s classic hit you spin around ,of the many artists who covered it I think the viewers will really love it since that song is so classic and fun❤
OMG i love when the artist themselves dislike the same songs that i do from their catalog. I can speak openly bout me disliking the song 😂 Bulletproof was iconic but i hated it, also starship by nicki minaj 😂😂
Check On It being included shocked me. I still listen to it today.
bulletproof is still on my daily workout playlist to this DAY
I love Bullet Proof 😭 . I'm so happy Paramore brought back Misery Business. Concerts would not be the same without it. I like how she brings a fan on stage to sing a portion. I also did not like Check On It. I only liked it when she performed it at Beychella. Great video!
A la Hayley on Misery Business, while I’m sure she still disagrees with the misogynistic aspects, I saw Paramore at Bonnaroo last year, and before they played misery business Haley said something along the lines of “we didn’t play this song for years because i hated it… imagine hating the song that made you successful!” sort of clowning on herself for it
Colourless color is my fav from Laroux ❤
10:00 this is blowing my mind. That’s literally one of their best songs. The lyrics isn’t even that bad fr . The girl was trying to steal her man 😂
That walk while patting the back of her head in “check up on it” will forever be iconic.
tbh I don't believe what SZA says anymore, girl is unreliable. she has bops tho
destiny's child caught me so off guard cause i've been OBSESSED with it for 2 months nnow😭😭😭
It’s also worth mentioning that Bruno Mars didn’t like his own song “It Will Rain” because he didn’t liked how he sounded and said that he could’ve done a lot better on it. But unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to make the changes that he wanted because the song had to be rushed, in order to be on the “Twilight: Breaking Dawn” soundtrack and to promote the movie.
I know Hayley Williams is going to say misery business but it really should be the only exception (I’m commenting before watching)
Okay so the funniest thing about the “retirement” of miz biz is they literally didn’t play a show until they “unretired” it so technically they didn’t play a show where it wasn’t on the setlist lmao and yeah Hayley hasn’t said “whore” for quite awhile and often scolds the crowd for saying it which makes it fun. I was at the show when they retired it and I laughed so hard when they came back last year and it was on the setlist , I said MGK covering it made them decide to not actually retire it, Hayley can say it was because the fans reclaimed it, I believe my delusion ❤️
I'm surprised people hate check on it so much, i've always loved it lol
La Roux’s first album may have had the better singles, but her follow-up, “Trouble in Paradise,” is her best body of work. After listening to her second album, I can see why she moved away from Bulletproof and wasn't fond of going commercial.
Girl I love your make up. Okay 👌🏾
The more time that goes on, the more I don’t get SZA. It’s like she is always eye-rolling her own music and being a musician. I get it, her label and music releases have been messy, but we all know CTRL is an amazing album.
Nice video ❤❤❤
Check on it went triple diamond in my house idc
18:13… ya, no one is.
Also, if you have EVER recorded a song or been in a studio while a song is being recorded you know exactly why artists don’t listen to their own music 💀 I couldn’t be an engineer
I am actually shook that bulletproof came out in 2009😅 wtf time is going too fast
justice for misery business and the og better than revenge lyrics. women are allowed a little misogyny if the result is an absolute banger
I can literally hear Rihanna singing shape of you
9:09 irrelevant, but this hair is glorious!
I don’t like shape of you either. Ed trying to write a sex song is cringe 😬
now Dance Monkey is in my head (i dont completely hate the sing but it definitely gets annoying
I remember being so obsessed with Laroux. What happened to them?
I was lowkey hoping to hear you talk about Nicki not liking "Your Love"
I did in pt 1! This is technically “part 2”
@@naomi.cannibal i feel like i’ve watched part one but don’t remember the title of the video, do you mind linking me to it?
@@AyeeItsBryce if you go to the end screen on this video it’s there!!
I heard nicki Minaj did not like super bass
Yeah I think I have that and Starships maybe in pt 1
I too don’t like Check on It or Dance Monkey. Annoying as hell!
Dance Monkey was the real pandemic, I fear
Love Royals. One of the most influential songs in pop music history. But I agree with Lorde, it may be one of the weakest songs on Pure Heroine
I can’t even begin to imagine touring the world and having to sing all the music you hate because it’s the reason you’re on the stage in the first place 😩😩😩
Pretty sure Paramore has unretired this song!
Bulletproof is still a classic honestly it gives Kylie minogue vibes in my opinion
I will absolutely never understand how “Shape of You” became such a HUGE song. It’s one of the highest viewed music videos on CZcams and it’s absurd because that song is so damn annoying and the epitome of mid.
Not me loving every single one of these songs! Dance Monkey is my jam
I feel like our pure heroine standout tracks are exact opposite lmao
Sometimes feels like artists don't like their most famous songs because for some reason they think it's cool to say that like "oh i'm a real artist, i'm different, i don't like what everyone else likes".
I think that sometimes too. You can be humble but still be proud of your work.
Or they are just over the song bc it was overplayed and genuinely don't feel like it was one of their best work. It's possible too lol
I was just gonna say, alot of the hate towards popular songs of theirs seems like they want to come across as humble and like they never expected to blow up like that because its like why did you release the song then and make it a single?
@@AngeBiampandou yes true, i didn't said otherwise, but i believe sometimes is not the only reason. I think both things can be true.
true but I feel like a lot of the times endless repetition creates the annoyance. like if it's their biggest hit they probably had to perform it the most out of all their songs, and it's very easy to get tired of anything if you hear/preform it a million times
if touch it/put your hearts up aren't on here i'm going to laugh since those 2 i know are notorious in the ariana fandom /lh
Not sure if you've mentioned it before because I have the memory of a Goldfish, but i'm still surprised that Grimes apparently hates "Oblivion" now. It's still one of her very best imo. But then again, I guess nothing can surprise me about Grimes anymore really lol.
SZA also be lying
Can we get songs or artist that made it into the dictionary?
Charli XCX hates “Break the Rules” if you need another
Man, I’m not a Swifty, but I do hate how Taylor changed the lyrics to better than revenge. It doesn’t make any sense.
thank God Rihanna did not take shape of you, cause i hate that song too.
I like the song a lot but can’t imagine her singing it at all… but maybe the version Ed did for her sounds dif
@@naomi.cannibalIf think about it "Shape Of You " is pretty much generic compared to Ed Sheeran usually writes/sings.
I like shape of you, at least the melodie, the lyrics i don't like that much. But to me is just a funny song, i don't take the song too seriously. Pop is also this, silly songs.
@@ramonpadilha9987 in my head it's more of a 'just for fun' song, which is something i really like about pop- not everything has to be all lyrically deep/ having me in my feels all the time lol
@@naomi.cannibal i completely agree with you Naomi, i think the same.
