though I had some problem with sea water It also czcams.com/users/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
I never knew some places require a permit! That’s nuts! People detecting actually leave the place better than when they started!
That is true.
I really like the fact that you kept the conversations with both the Park Ranger and fellow detectorist on your video. You're vids are both entertaining and well done. Thank you for posting!
Thank you! I know most of my videos run too long. So I cut out about 15 minutes with each guy to save 30 minutes of just shooting the bull. But both guys were really nice. Thanks for watching!
Anytime you need a permit to detect a public beach or park you have too many self important beaurocrats in your local government!
True
+Digger D While that is certainly possible, it's more a sign of a lack of funding to your local public beaches and parks. As politicians defund our parks, you will see more permits/fees. A sign of the shifting tax burden from corporations and the wealthy to the middle and working class in the form of permits/fees.
Just another case of tax payers paying to have people harass them. I had case of a ranger literally screaming at two 8 year old kids for feeding the ducks. If that is all they have to do then they are surplus and sent packing.
to many crooks at town hall
Digger D ; At Arkansas state parks, if it legal to detect, if you find anything worth more than ten dollars you must turn it in.
No permit needed in Texas parks! God bless Texas.
Cull Silver Just some of our parks need a permit. I really don't understand whay someone issues a permit that's free?
I enjoy the fact that in Texas there seems to be much less government injecting itself in to every aspect of our lives. I moved from California, where a permit is needed for everything!
Cull Silver I hear ya! Too much government and not enough fun! Thanks for watching!
Cull Silver You are completely so wrong. All parks where I am require a permit..all of them.
+Cull Silver Where I live you have to have a permit to dig on your own land. You only "own" the top part and anyone can by the rights to anything under you if you don't buy them first.
Can not bury anything (animal, human, or time capsule) on your land without a permit. As far as I know you can plant trees and bushes without a permit so that's something I guess or I've broke the law.
You have to register with the courthouse if you want to build a shed, any kind of shed, if you want a mower shed or wood shed you better get the permit
Built a tin shed from lowes on my old property some time back and a tax adjuster come by, shed was a 6x4 and about 5 foot tall in the middle and sloped down to 4.5 foot on the side. costed something like $300 I think. That shed added $10,000 value to my property and raised the amount of taxes I had to pay at the end of the year.
But you don't have to register your fire arms.
If you are late on child support the order of permits taken from you are as followed, first you loose your driver's license, if you get further behind you loose your fishing license, and if you still don't pay you loose your hunting license.
I like that you send the dog tags to the owners. mad respect. new to detecting always been a gold dredger and have found relics that way too.
+RE-NU Batteries Anything I find with any identifying info I try to find the owners.
A permit to dig holes in the ground.. how pathetic
The state always wants it's $.
You can fill them back in without a permit, we are a free country ya know.
The permits in Missouri are free.
@@nevets68 corporate greed in reality
@WonkaaVision let the truth be told
Tried detecting at a park today and got in trouble even though I had a permit. Metal detecting is not a crime. People just feel threatened cuz it's an awesome hobby that they don't have patience for.
How did you get in trouble?
@@mowerdog didn't get in trouble really just felt like a criminal. I was told to leave by park security.
what a bunch of bull a permit to look for coins lol.
+Namii Arii Your right. Plus it's a free permit so what is the point? Crazy...
+Namii Arii they have to be diligent without that coin looking permit the country would go to hell in handbag fast.
+joseph fulks Yep. I hate to bring politics into it, but this is why Republicans want smaller government. What a waste of tax dollars. Someone getting paid good money (with a good pension on the way) to guard over some soda can tabs in some mudhole. Ridiculous.
lol feel free yet?
@@robbradley1337 yeah smaller gov is better cuz they are amazingly wastefull lol. Imo
Plus they can just fuck off :p
You done well with the beep machine! I never did doubt you for a minute! I know a local metal detector dealer and he does quite well with his beep machine in competition. I will have to watch this video again. Thanks for the video.
Beep/dig on the beach! I wish I never sold this machine. But a guy offered me a pretty penny to have it so............
You are so nice and informative!! You just taught me so much thru this vid. Haha yeah a detector and scoop is so dangerous! I magnet fish too!!
Thank you! I built a magnet but really haven't used it. I need to though..........
"Picking up trash, officer."
They should be paying us!!
They should pay you for cleaning up the beach
+dnhman Double time!!!
I think you need a permit for that too.
sadly alot of the treasure seekers just pull the junk up and leave it!
That could be why a permit is needed
they dont want sharp metal objects sticking up on the beach with plenty of bacterior all over
@@rogerd4559 not like those objects are not already their ,at least these guys dig it out so it can be picked up,,geeze
DAMN STRAIGHT THEY SHOULD
Great Video. Raymond....A great Ambassador to the hobby. I like The Hat "417 Relic Hunters" Got one almost like it.
+AgilDog1 I don't have one of those fancy hats! Maybe I should join a club? Thanks for watching!
At least he is being polite. Be friendly because that could be useful in the future.
This is true. Thanks for the comment!
@@mowerdog Might be useful to show them the junk you pick up too and ask where's a good disposal place for that - indicating you have a beneficial effect on the park's quality and (afterthought) that you always fill in holes. You never know, might make a friend for life (?). I'm in Australia and the rangers here tend to be really unfriendly, almost like they are our 'controllers' and we the servants. Very strongly left wing here too (the rangers) and I have friends around Sydney who tell me the tricks they get up to, sometimes 'not quite.. [ummm, gotta be careful here][.. 'right'.
Top marks for returning the dog tag to the owner, it would mean something to me.
Great video. The sound quality was a little poor but could still hear it ok. Sound quality in the wrap up was great though. HH keep up the great work.
+Jake Solomon Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching!
That ranger was cool. Not being a jerk and being nice. I wish there were more like him.
He was nice and all but what is the point of a permit if it's free?...... If they were missing out on revenue then maybe? But it costs the tax payers money for them to issue free permits. I had to get it from the office so that means we the people paid for the persons 10 minutes of time, printer ink, paper, electricity and the Ranger to enforce the free permit. So the Ranger probably makes $20 and hour. The clerk maybe $15. Plus the truck the Ranger was driving. This may have cost tax payers $10 to $15? How many time a year does this happen?
I 2nd that
@@mowerdog it's to get a count of the number of detecting enthusiasts just like fishing and photography.
@@wyvrennemacdaniels6813 and when they get those numbers, if its high enough, they start thinking more ways to make money off it.
I guess I missed the "confrontation" part
Thats called click bait most guys like this use it .
Great video, Ken :) Man, you always seem to have the most interesting hunts...you bring trouble where ever you go, lol. It's funny, the few times I've been approached by a cop or some other higher up when detecting, I too seem to always get the same line; "Find anything?" before they start rambling on about the rules and other nonsense.. It must be like a stock line that they teach in security guard school or something. He was a nice enough fella though. And what was with the pirate? He was even using a Tesoro, too! Keep up the good work, sir.
+Treasure Hunting Tips LOL. You know how it goes. Old man metal detecting ='s trouble! LOL. Maybe that's all they have to do is check detector permits? All I know is every time I hunt a beach I'm checked! The other guy did have a nice Tesoro. But after a few minutes switched to an Ace 250. I think he stayed around 45 minutes.
I don’t agree with a need for a permit. Only reason I can think is to try to prevent disrespectful detectors not filling holes or leaving piles of debris laying around.
I was into the metal detecting hobby for about a 10 year period starting 1983 to about 1993. I was using a "Heathkit" metal detector made from a kit. It pinpointed amazingly because it had a small search head. If you had been into this hobby back in the early eighties there was pre 1965 silver coins GALORE still in the ground. Most of them no deeper than 4 inches.
I dream about the early days of detecting. All silver all the time!!
Great Public servant he came up to you and said "hey how you doin". Wow we need more government employees like this, nice, professional, courteous.
+slinky9632 He was a real nice man. I may not agree with the permit process but respect the man for doing his job.
With my luck: *$50 for permit..... Oooooh a penny!!! This permit just became $49.99 (doesn't find anything rest of the year...)*
I bought a permit last year that cost me $25. It stipulated that I could NOT detect sand swimming beaches of which there are two, ball fields and soccer fields. Basically some woods and a few other open areas. What a rip off! Now we can't even search the sand!
Another example of government taking away my freedom and selling it back to me for a fee. This country needs an enema!
@@mowerdog In Massachusetts it's 10 dollars for basically not owning anything you find anywhere that's owned by a city or town. Which is literally everything that's not owned by the state. I believe it's a yearly permit meaning you need to list every relic you find to get a new permit issued. Well that's what's listed on the application for the permit so you're doing this to help them while paying them to do an innocent hobby or career. Don't get me started on lost jewelry you also have to report it and help the nearest police precinct in finding the "Proper Owner".
Monday morning and I'm headed to work in a few minutes. Spent the weekend poking around trails and beaches here in Alaska. Had fun but didn't see a single person. Can't imagine the constant interactions that you put up with.
Good luck!
That's the way to be, friendly with the Rangers it will always go down well with other detectorists👍🏼😎
Nice vid😃

Coin Hunting And Relic Recovery Aus Thanks Craig. He was a nice Ranger just doing his job. Thanks for watching!
Metal detecting is a hobby not a crime -have nice day hammer head park rangers
Great video. All 4 Tesoros I have hunted with broke up on rings if the shanks were broken
The Tesoros love jewelry!
Pretty sad when you have to get a permit to dig holes on a PUBLIC beach in a so-called "FREE COUNTRY!" Also, if a park maintenance person tries to get you to leave, tell them to call the cops to show you the law that restricts you! They have ZERO authority to tell you to leave!
+JeffSal999 True. They let kids leave huge open holes. They let others leave their trash laying around. Those are the ones that need a permit to use the beach. Not us detectorists that clean up after them.....
+JeffSal999 Permit costs help pay for upkeep and maintenance of park facilities including the parking lot where mower dog parked. [edited]
One of my main points is the detecting permit is free.
That's weird. Then why bother asking you to get a permit... I could see if they were trying to pay for parking or someone to clean the bathrooms or empty trash cans.
Exactly.
Interesting hunt! Black rocks sure make it hard to dig in. Where did you get that scoop? I'm new to the hunt, having got my first detector for Christmas. I can't find those long slim shovels at our stores, and I have a beach trip in 3 weeks. Thanks for the peek into your hunt!
+gaylemae I got that scoop off of ebay. Just do a search. Thanks for watching my videos!
Nice to
Meet a fellow digger along the way the ranger was cool too nice day out I’d say
Meeting another detectorist doesn't happen often.
Im shopping around for a pin pointer and detector. New to the field so need a good inexpensive set up what do you suggest? In Colorado now.
Give Craig at www.showmetreasure.com a call. Tell him Kenny said to set you up.
well I have to say that even though you didn't find much goodies I enjoy your videos. as for changing anything may I suggest showing us your screen when getting a hit for those not familiar with your machine your using. great video keep it up
+kirk mcwethy In this video I'm using a Tesoro Compadre. It doesn't have a display. My other vids show the screen on my other machines. Once spring gets here I'll be using the new Whites MXSport that does have a display and is waterproof. So stay tuned for those videos. Let me know if you want one - I'm a multi line dealer..

Ha ha, 😆 I’m watching this exactly 5 years later.
Thanks for watching the History channel! LOL....
Excuse me...yes, you there! I noticed you taking a breath, did you just breathe in some air?! Can I see your permit please?
I need to renew my oxygen permit.
mowerdog keep posting your bounty hunt please! Best of luck...crossing my fingers that you find that mother lode!
To be completely fair if everyone with a State issued badge and gun was as level headed and respectful as that Ranger we wouldn't have all the crazy stuff that's going on right now.
True
Senator Tom McCall Oregon. People were trying to cordon off areas of beach for private use. He made it all public, like it should be. I’ve made nothing but friends detecting the beaches. In fact, some lady just gave me a float she found walking ahead of me. I’ve been well received in the hobby.
The world has lost common sense. I haven't had problems on the coastal beaches. Only the inland beaches.
Nosey neighbors too. Lot of Pirates
Arrrrrg!
seemed pretty cool
I know this is probably 5 years too late to make a statement, but I hate that Tesoro went out of business. They made some slam bang little detectors that would disc. out iron better than any other and their detectors had excellent separation so that you got crisp and clear signals. I still love my Cibola and Mojave detectors.
I has a SS umax and Compadres. Great machines.
Mowerdog I noticed you said something about Kansas City I'm new to metal detecting..do you have any recommendations on going out about an hour or so outta Kansas City to hunt? I have also tried to find clubs in the area..but have been unsuccessful so far.
Not many clubs as far as I know. Start in the bark chips or sand at your local parks. Then expand to your friends yards of houses 1950 or older. Research each town and park rules to see if detecting is banned before you go.
were is this at? what State and CIty?
How are is it to get a permit to detect a State Park beach? I have one near my house and they don’t allow detecting on the beach or in water so they say and if they do have permits how much red tape is it?
Not all State Parks allow detecting. The ones that do may or may not require a permit. You just have to check....
I didn't know you needed a permit to detect a beach or lake Park. Is that in every state?
No it’s not every state I’m in sc and from nc and I’ve never heard of having to have one till now ! Only for things like fishing and hunting !!!
Not my cup of tea, but it was interesting to watch and learn. The main thing I leave this video with is that you are are very decent human being.
Good hunting.
Thanks for the kind works Gerald!
President and secretary, lol.
Good video
Insane law! Great vid though!
Thanks!
My brother metal detects but I never got into it . He detected a beach years ago and got like 26 gold rings on his first hunt , must have been a virgin beach .
There are still some hidden beaches and swimming holes where you can slay the jewelry. I haven't found one yet! LOL. Maybe it's time to try detecting with your brother?
do you have any info about how I could make my comprade waterproof . have you tried this in saltwater ?
+George Bortnick It won't work in salt water. This is all I have about how I built it. www.treasurenet.com/forums/tesoro/388630-waterproof-compadre-project-complete.html
Hey Kenny, any park rangers ever give you grief over using a scoop? Thinking about going to local state beach this weekend and they are a little bigger than 12" lol
Never once in maybe 6 confrontations
GOOD DUDE I CAN TELL BY WHAT HE SAID ABOUT THE DOG TAG HOPE YOU FIND SOMETHING NICE YOU DESERVE IT
Thanks Erric!
mowerdog, this is the first video of yours that I have seen and looks good to me!!!!! HH and GL
+GOLDBULLIONTREASURES HistoryRetriever Thanks a bunch!
I am not surprised, also someone trying to mess up someone’s fun. I hope you had fun. Stay safe.
I have fun every time I'm able to detect! Take care..
Ah, more permission to be free. Tyranny is wonderful, eh?
LOL. Right....
I always wanted to get a detector and go exploring but never have. Watching you makes want to do it again. What’s your best find so far?
Go watch my video named Amanda.
czcams.com/video/jQ5iwnB5qmI/video.html This ring is the best thing I've ever found
What lake is this?
How do they lower the water?
They lower the gates at the dam to lower the level.
I love the conversation, no no conflict left it and hey it's just a bunch of foil and pull tabs.
Always a lot of trash.....
nice and friendly ranger, way to go
Very nice of you to send the dog tag back.
+ScottDLR Thanks! Thanks for watching!
In the state of Georgia, All State Parks are considered OFF LIMITS! Maybe there is a way around it? Not sure??
It depends on how the rules read. Sometimes it says you can search the beaches only. Or previously disturbed ground. I would just have to read it all.
i enjoyed your video over lunch, happy hunting
Thanks for having me along! Thanks for the comment too!!
hey did he have his permission from the kings men?
Absolutely!
Just curious, why do you need a permit for a public beach?
Where is the confrontation?
If I ever met a cop that pleasant I'd faint from shock.
Seems like there's nothing you can do without a license or a permit. I didn't know you would have to get a permit to metal detect! I subed to your channel I like watching stuff like this good luck metal detecting!
You don't need a permit at most places. But get one if you do....
I've gotten great hits and finds with my $49.00 Barska Detector from Menards!
Awesome! You don't need to spend a fortune to find fortune!
Great video, how much are the permits and are they good for one year?
Permits are free. No matter when you get one they end December 31st.
Cool thanks. If they start permits here I doubt they will be free.
I really don't understand why a permit is free? I mean why even have them? I wouldn't mind paying for a permit as this may keep some others from stealing my BLING!
mowerdog
this is America and you can do anything you want as
long as you have a PERMIT
Public property is not public.
Lol cool video. Love those Ranger.moments. most are pretty nice though in my experiences.
Good pictures with the hat cam--is that like the ones sold on ebay for about $ 50 ?
brewster102 Yes it is. I loved it while it was working. It bit the dust like the next day. It only lasted about 30 days. Then the ebay seller wouldn't take it back for repair or replacement even though they gave it a 1 year warranty. I had to get Paypal involved and they got my money back. Thanks for watching my vids!
Great video, and good job being cool with the park ranger. They really get hassled a lot for doing their job.
I never met a Ranger I didn't like... Thanks for watching!
Do I have to pay extra for sound ?
If you want to? I have a lot better camera and editing software now.
Land of the fee ! Not the free like they tell you.
In the UK it’s permit for this, licence for that, permission to fart.
I can understand getting a permit for farting if you have Taco Bells there!
The LIBERALS in the USA want to tax *FARTS*
Great video. Thank u! 🍀🇺🇸🥰
Thanks for watching my videos Randy!
one person comes to the park in the winter, the poor ranger is just bored and wants human interaction
Maybe so?
Where is this? I'm not asking cuz I wanted to text your place but I'm asking because I want to learn more about these places that need permits it sometimes hard to figure out where we can and can't detect without a permit
It's a state park. Simply do a search in your neighborhood or state if you need a permit
How long is the permit good for ?
Most are for 1 year and some are lifetime unless you loose it..... Then just apply for a new one....
THAT RING IS OFF A SPINNING FISHING ROD
Cool! Thanks for watching my video!
Every time I detect nosy people come out of the woodwork. People are afraid you might get something they didn't find.

why do you need a permit? if anything your cleaning up the junk
+James Fisher Instead of me handing over my permit. They should be handing over some cash for clean up.

@@theyourepolice5731 I sometimes find it difficult to figure out what some people are talking about, when they use the wrong "your or you"re". Same as the wrong use of "there vs their or they"re".

Bummer. My daughter and I got shut down at a beach as well. Told us the only place to detect was the paved parking lot..hmm, how does that work?

Many state parks prohibit metal detectors, period. Must be they don't want a lot of holes dug. In the tidelands it isn't an issue is it?
Usually you can detect up to the high water mark, beaches and other disturbed land. But check the rules before you go.
Enjoyed the vid. Subbed and look forward to more.

The State Park I worked in for ten years. You got a permit for free. If found something notify them so to see if it was a part of the history there. When Fort Gibson lake was flooded for the dam there was the town of Ray, Oklahoma there. It's a free permit
This one is free too. But I don't understand why a permit is issues if they're not going to charge?
Nice video, wow I had no idea you needed a permit to do this. I better check out my local bylaws here in B.C. Canada.
You don't need one everywhere. It is good to check though.

He was nice.
I think that it us great that he checks you AND everyone else, which weeds out the people who don't have permits and expect forgiveness.

It blows my mind you had to have a permit 😂 that seems kind of ridiculous considering most hobbyists are packing trash out of there, it seems some places you can't do nothing without some kind of permit
