I LOVE watching "a day in the life" videos. Some of you have asked me to make one, but I always hesitated because I don't film during contract hours, so I didn't really know how to go about it.
That's when Madison reached out to me. She wanted to do this collab, and she suggested to do a talk-through video of what a typical day in my classroom looks like. Here it is! :) Don't forget to check out her video!

I was so nervous about teaching Kindergarten this year as I am a 1st grade teacher but after watching this video I’m more confident. Your video provided me with a lot of great ideas for the structure of the day and classroom management. I’m looking forward to this school year thanks to you!!
This gets me excited i want to be a preschool teacher!! And decorate my classroom. I just need to work on being more outgoing so i can lead songs with my students haha
I had classes in college that we had to sing in, so that will help prepare you. Just remember that your students won't care how you sound when you sing. They'll love singing along and like that you make learning fun. :D

I'm about two months into my first year as Preschool Teacher, and I've been nervous the whole time. I don't have any prior classroom management experience, which is an area my boss says I've been struggling on, but she is seeing improvement in. Watching your video is definitely helping me feel a bit better! I hope you're doing well. Here's to both of us continuing to grow and learn.

I’ll be obtaining my N.C. teaching credentials for Kindergarten this year in May and I’m so excited to finally be able to apply to schools within the summer time 😍
I did a Dale Carnegie course and that share the idea while your partner listens was a type of thing we did and then I also did it with fellow Senior students at FFA camp and I love it, I think it's a really great way to help people either learn to listen and hear what others have to say or to remind them to do so, because we all know we feel so appreciated when someone actually hears what we have to say, but it's important to remember to share that with others as well. I love that you're teaching that to them at such a young age.
I've been thinking of becoming a kindergarten teacher, seeing your video gave me an idea of what is like & it sounds amazing. For me I'm kind of a shy person... so I'm hoping that won't cause me a bad thing as becoming a kindergarten teacher. Do you how can I overcome this? & how can I prepare for all my classes I'll have in college? Will I learn even more about being a teacher ? My college has had me in 5 different classrooms already and that has helped me open up a little bit more, but I am also pretty quiet and shy. Your teachers will give you criticism while teaching, and I would recommend taking their advice and not worrying so much about what they think. I know that when I stress about what the teacher is thinking, that is when I make mistakes and appear too reserved.
I have had classes on classroom management, teaching english language learners, literacy instruction, choosing children books, teaching math, teaching social studies, teaching science, diversity, and so on. They give you the philosophies and research behind teaching methods, but my field experience is where I actually learn to apply that information and create meaningful lesson plans and activities. I don't feel super prepared even with the classes, but it is really something that you will learn on the job. I would also recommend volunteering with children to add experience to your resume as finding a job can be difficult.
I hope this can help in some way, and I hope things work out for you in your decision process. :)

Wow your kids start EARLY! I'm sure for the US/your district that's normal but here in the UK, my kiddos don't have to be in class until 8:45. We do morning work, assembly and the kids start lessons at 9:20.
Middle school is worse :c we have to go to school by 7:30 and I usually have to wake up at 6:30 every night and doing schoolwork I usually only get 6 hours of sleep on weekdays. I’m so tired
In Arkansas class bell starts at anywhere from 7:30 until 8:00 depending on bus run.

You're very brave to post your first year of teaching. It takes at least three years at a grade level to really get it down. You're already so far ahead of most.

Great video, Madison! I remember I was in Kindergarten in 1998. I LOVED centers! We had center every Friday before concessions. Those were the days! We didn't have the big projector screen though. We had those old projectors that look like they were from the 40s, lol!

I have always dreamed of being a teacher but I’ve never known what grade I wanted to teach. Ever since my little brother was born I’ve realized how much I love being around children and watching them grow. Sometimes I just worry I don’t have enough bubbly energy that most elementary teachers have.

today I signed up for some jobs at my high school for my senior year, one of the jobs is to be a teachers aid for a kindergarten class I’m sooo nervous hopefully I get the job though! But I also did sign up for after school daycare for elementary hopefully the kids aren’t too stressful for me 😂

I loved this video! 😀 How do you stay organized as a first year teacher? I just received my eligibility letter for Temporary (Provisional) Certification in Elementary Education. I have my Master's in this area, and my goal is to begin teaching in August of this year! 😀 You are an inspiration for many new teachers. I was the same age you were when I became a Para/Teacher's Assistant. I've worked with elementary and middle school students for nearly 11 years. This was SO incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this; I really appreaciate it! One question I have-- do you change the type of centers that are available? I see that there was a literacy theme, does that switch? For example, are there days where there are art stations, building stations, computers, etc? Or is it alway literacy and those other types of stations come into play another time? Or maybe not at all? Would love any insight you have as I figure out our schedule. Thank you!!!
If it was during our literacy block, it was only literacy centers. If it was our math block, then it was math centers. They had 30 mins of free playtime in our classroom at the end of the day

All I remember of kindergarten is getting in trouble :/
I don't remember learning anything except for the mouse books that I loved. I got in trouble for how I wrote my "A" and "Y" in my name because I wasn't supposed to write in cursive yet (wasn't cursive, just not exactly how they wanted even though it was correct and still how I wrote them to this day lol) and then I remember getting in trouble because I couldn't draw a heart, I tried and tried but she didn't believe I really couldn't do it, I remember going home trying so hard and I'm sure I cried because thinking back makes me want to cry now and I just couldn't do it, I don't think I could until maybe 1st or 2nd grade with loving help from family who told me they believed in me and I could do it.
I also remember the teacher didn't like me much because she hated my dad and only liked me enough because of my mom also being her past student, she got mad at my dad a lot too because of my imagination (I was an only child and claimed my dog and rabbit were my sister's because I was lonely), I also got in trouble because I picked flowers for my mom and forgot they were in my book bag and I wasn't allowed to have flowers for some reason (btw I picked them outside and they were those tiny white weed flowers, so nothing like prized roses) and a bunch of other stuff too. I hated school from what I remember which is weird because I did want to go back but luckily got homeschooled which was both a blessing and curse, but it did allow me to travel with my parents while doing homework and so by age 13 I had bee to half the states and met some wonderful people and got to experience a lot of fun things that even after being out of school for half a decade my husband still hasn't gotten to do :/
... basically what I'm saying is I love that you're showing how much you care and everything because that can mean the world to a student, the only time I remember my teacher not being mad at me is when I brought my rabbit in for show and tell, oh well I'm just hoping my kids have a better time than I did :/

I am thinking of being a kindergarten teacher as a back up plan after college if i can not get into masters/PhD school for psychology. I might even want to be q teacher while in school. You inspire me to to be a kinder teacher. I am also from 2ASand . Ps my older bro graduated from U of A the same year you did. I don't go to U of A unfortunately. I chose not to go there. I need up choosing to go to college else where but not stating.
I've been wanting to change my major towards early childhood education to become a kindergarten teacher! I've scheduled a meeting with my advisor already but I still would like to ask what kind of college courses I'll be needing to become a kindergarten teacher? Like what math courses, English courses and ect.
You’ll need all your gen eds for sure -math, English, history, arts.
Then depending on your program you’ll have courses pertaining to you major.
Your advisor is the best person to go to for this since all programs are different and not all states have the same requirements

It is pretty early! I definitely struggle waking up in the morning
when i went to high school the day started in homeroom 735am. and in younger grades i was up around 7am.

I'm 14 and today at school I had to do a career test on paper and mark what ones you would wanna do I saw kingergarten teacher and I instantly wanted that job I love kids and I did a career test online it had 78 job questions and the results were elementary teacher or kindergarten and I instantly was happy for my results I might change my mind but I don't think so
