- Did you know that STIHL recommends changing your chainsaw into winter mode when it's below 50F / 10C?
This is how you do it on the ms261c
You can find a quick "how to" on the ms 881 on my Instagram @femalelumberjack look under reels ;)
I was using my 261c on the weekend, the temperature was -34 C and the saw run like a charm. A little harder to start when cold, but once running it had no issues with the shutter open to preheat the air. Good video, some people don't know about the shutter.
🥶🥶🥶 that’s so cold!
The 261 is a champ 😉
@@Femalelumberjack , LOL, it's warming up now, the first week of February the lows were -47c and the highs were -38c. I am in northern British Columbia, Canada. Yes my 261c is a champ. It's my baby.. Stay safe!!
@@Femalelumberjack Waiting on my 261 (slow delivery). Can't wait :)
Wow, you're awesome, I've been switching it in my 460 and didn't know there was one in the 261! I've been learning so much from you, thanks so much for your kindness...
Glad to hear it. Thank you!
I switch mine around also. Enjoy the bloopers take care of your camera. Hope you're having a blessed week and can't wait for your next video.
Good. Thank you 😊
elsker at du lader dine bloopers spille til sidst
😊 er glad for at du kan lide dem
Always enjoy your videos. Cold here in Thunder Bay -35C so no sawing until spring. Your personality is a breath of fresh air. (smile!)
-25C at central Finland now, and getting a bit colder on next night. Might try to make firewood with MS261 within this week. I do not have heated handles on my MS261, so I need to take pretty warm gloves (propably multilayer mittens)....
Stay safe in the cold!
Great info! I personally don't use a winter setting only because there is 7+ feet of snow where we log. Usually can't get into the mountains until June.
Bought a Stihl MS 362C in late fall. I haven't had much of a chance to use it but what little I have it seems to cut like a larger saw. Way more than I expected out a 60cc. Thanks for the tip. Learn something new everyday.
I haven’t tried the 362 yet.. maybe I should add that to my list 😊
Glad you liked the video
I thinking of lighting my truck on fire to melt the ice. Sprayed deicer on it did nothing. Smart guy would have parked backhoe outside. Put truck in garage. Thank you for the cold weather tip on chainsaw. I had no idea had winter settings. Outstanding
*Chuckle* I like the outtakes. Definite thumbs up. I've wondered what the snowflake is for on my 661cm .. but living in Australia, I thought leave it on summer as it's rarely below 15C even in winter. Didn't realise it was there to heat the air over the motor but this makes sense. Thanks.
Glad you liked it.
I could do with a bit of Aussie weather 😊
I really enjoy your presentations on the little things that are in reality big things that often are over looked like this one regarding the winter/summer operation.
I would really like to see you give a lesson on chain tension and how to properly adjust it, too much wears out bearings, too little allows the teeth to rock back reducing efficiency.
Thank you very much.
That’s a good idea! I’ll add it to my list
Wow iam always learning . And if its from a beautiful tree goddess that’s even better . Hi timber
Great video Felixia! It was -14 fahrenheit here in Oklahoma the other day. That is way below normal for this part of the country.
Thanks for another great video the 261 our favourite saw to 👍
Thanks. It’s a great saw isn’t it 😊
She makes good videos and has a great voice ~
👍Nice description!
I always forget to tell my buddies this little gimmic (until its too late and they ask me, why their saw's stuck in cold condition after some cuts.) Shame on me! I'm thinking about telling them to follow you on your channel instead of asking me...😇
As always: very cool video - in this special case literally...
Thank you 😊
Great info! Very important to don't forget to change it to warm weather 🌡️ again when it's time, it can blow your engine! Luckely in Portugal we don't need to change that! Greats!
You’re absolutely right :)
Thats a simple, interesting feature. We run both Stihl 661, and Husky 372 and 385, but they dont have this vent. When its colder, like 10 F or colder we usually set the saws up on top of the log skidder exhaust and warm them up a bit before crank up.
I have enjoyed every one of your videos since I subscribed last year. I'm now going back and watching old ones! You do a wonderful job of explaining things. Have you ever done any discussion on the different bar oils depending on cold temperature? Seems to be some divergent opinions! Thanks so much for your great work! 👏
Thank you. No I haven’t.. I’ll add it to my list
..just use canola oil it's thin enough for winter and cheap..
The winter chainsaw adjustment. Outstanding you are the bestest. Why don’t the dealers fill people in. On this Thank you
Another great video
Thanks
Cameras falling over?!?! I’m from Wisconsin! I knocked my drink over!!!
Great explanation.MS261👍
Thank you
Nice Video That's different to the older saws like the my 021 Thanks
Yes on some of the bigger saws you change it on the cover
Thanks for that tip I have a ms271.
No problem
When the dog is named Timber, you know the owner loves felling trees :)
🤷♀️😉
Thank you so much....I was all way's wondering how to do that
great information I did not know this , thanks !
Glad you liked it
Another great video, I am sure not a lot of people knew that was there. We all know most people do not read the manual.
Thanks 😊
Thank you lass, I didn't know this
You’re welcome
Very good info
Great video good info. 👍
Glad you liked it
I’ve just got myself a MS-231c and couldn’t make out what I was looking for to switch modes (by looking in the manual).
Watching this made it jump out at me and now I know…. Thank you so much, I love your videos.
PS: Do you do all of your own maintenance or do you get it serviced at a dealer for things like clutches / springs / setting the carb?
Your video is useful. In addition you could show how attach (optional) plastic cover or just duct tape to incoming air holes (1/2 from bottom).
Thank you
Hello from Canada , It's been cold here too and lots of snow. I have to do this to my 261 too, believe it or not I had to show my dealer this , because he didn't know. I have a pretty crappy Stihl dealer . Thanks for sharing and keep warm
My 024 winter setting was hard to understand in the manual, i asked the dealer to show me how. 3 people looked at it, and the owners manual. They wouldn't let me look over their shoulder so i could do it myself next time. Well they gave me the saw back in 2 pieces. They told me to bring the saw back in the spring, to replace the winter mode part! I finally figured it out myself. You don't have to be a mechanic, parts person, or owner to sell a stihl saw, the saws sell themselves. Guess what 3 people at the dealer looked at my saw?
No problem. Wow I’m surprised your STIHL dealer didn’t know that.. good thing you told him :)
@@Femalelumberjack I never told them, i just took my saw and the now bent winter mode piece, and went home. The saw is old, the '' piece '' was metal. They didn't use as much plastic then. A 1980's saw.
The end of video is the best :))
Timber, what an awesome name 4 your pet!
Thank you 😊
Hi Female lumber jack! Fantastic video, do you also have the artic cover for the starter side in your country? Love your videos keep up the awesome work 👍👍💪💪😁😎❤️!
I don’t think we do.. but now I’m gonna have to check 😆
Thank you
Never knew ny saw even did this..thank you
You’re welcome
im glad the 500i in fuel injected dont need tuning but my others do;)
Hey Flex,
Can you do a unedited normal speed cold start video outside on all your chainsaws to show how many pulls it takes you to get each of them started and running when they have been sitting outside for awhile in your next video?
My 261c-m arrived yesterday at last. Only been waiting 2 months 👍🪵🔥🪓
Yay such a good saw!
Very good!👏🌹
I❤stihl ms 261 c-m.
It’s a great saw
Echo has same thing. It actually helps when it’s cold
50degrees is not cold tho
I don’t change my echos over until it gets below 30degree
But I mean there’s tons of other saws that don’t even have this option
(I have a echo cs500p and a cs400 and a cs800p). And many others
Another great video, many thanks. Focus was a bit off at times, were you using two cameras?
Thanks. Yes I’m out of focus 😔
I have never changed mine here in Missouri if it’s that cold 🥶 I don’t go cut. My kids was like does are stihls have that I told them I would show them sometime
Good video greetings! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you
SUPER 👍👍👍
G'day FLJ, None of my Stihl saws have got that orange tab ? It only gets below 10C at night in winter for a few weeks and I don't like to use a chainsaw in the dark 🇦🇺👍.
I just got a STIHL ms 194 t. I can't seem to find that tab anywhere underneath the carb cover, and there's no mention of it in the manual, just different kinds of filter you can use in the summer and winter (fleece or fabric). Do smaller saws just not have this feature?
Cheers to timba too!😄😄😄
🐶
Every time I’ve tried running my 362cm in winter mode, it lets a lot more chips and dust in the airbox.
Good video, nonetheless. Enjoy your channel.
Great video And beautiful
Thank you
além de a operadora de moto sserra e mecânica muito bom legar 👍
Is it the same procedure to switch modes for the 400 and 362, both of them have been a little bit boggy in the cold and now I'm guessing this is probably why.
Do you use Eco fuel in winter ? Fuel that does not make smoke....
I will have to go back through the manuals. My MS361C had the tab to change it accessible from the outside, so no covers have to be removed. I haven't read about the summer and winter settings on older arborist or non-professional saws. Is this on every chainsaw or just the pro saws?
It should be on all but the homeowner editions
@@Femalelumberjack Thank you. I ended up finding in the manual for the MS361C (which was visible on the outside of the shroud), the MS251C toward the chain from where the air filter mounts, and the MS200T on the side just below the tuning adjustment screws. Now all are set for winter! Thank you and appreciate your videos.
Hi how r u woo I never knew that thanks for letting us know ur a star x
No problem:)
Thanks
No problem
Just dissected a 261, the clutch drum bearing was gone 🤷🏻♂️ and that answers why it stalled when the brake was applied lol
Chainsaw surgery 😉
..I bought a new 261 C-M M-Tronic directly from a Stihl dealer and it has issues every summer.. I know about changing the summer and winter setting I do that.. the problem is that once the saw has been running for 25 minutes it refuses to start again.. if I let it cool down it starts no problem.. I have read about a bunch of other people having exactly the same issue but I can find the solution..?.. I would rather not take it to the dealership because they clean it change the sparkplug and then charge me.. the issues seems to be fairly common.. any suggestions..?
Buenas noches !!!! Para q es ese trocito de lamina de plástico q le quitas ala maquina , de al lado del motor ????? Es q la mía no lo lleva ... Saludos ...
Hmmm? I've never done any of that. I run my saws year round.
Is this only on newer saws or on ms260 as well?
It’s on the old saws too
3 in. Of ice here. Northeast Ohio need summer. Want summer must have summer
Summer will come 😊
Do all chainsaws very this type of setup? Like I've got an Echo.
Not all saws. I don’t know about echo sorry
Hi there can anyone help me with whether I need to be re setting my sthil ms 261 cm chainsaw when I am switching from winter to summer setting ?
Hey treepeople.. 💚🌳👊👍🌳💚
Like 🙋🏻♀️ 😍 😍 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗
😊
Wonder if the manual shows this I’m obviously a guy so we don’t read manuals. Now I have to go out in the could snow and ice.
what's the diffrerence between winter and summer setup?
The difference is that the intake air is heated on winter operations mode
Hi there gorgeous how have you been doing good video as usual
Nice dog what breed is he
Ноw much STIHL 500i is it in dollars?
I take my golden retriever out cutting or splitting all the time. She loves wood pyled because of the rodents

Hi girl. I have Husqvarnas what should I do ?
Sell them and buy Stihls, lol...
I don’t believe Husqvarna has that

No Husqvarna anymore? ;)
I’ve got a 545, a 550 and a 572 :)
@@Femalelumberjack Great, my next project is 550 XP Mark II :) :)
Clearly people don't read those manuals. It's worth the half an hour.
Hi
Oh no, you're out of focus, Felixia 🤓🧐😂
I know 🙈 so annoying lol
