- Watch the full episode: • The Netherlands: Beyon... Haarlem is a “Dutch Masters” kind of town, with plenty of 17th-century architecture. Dodge bikes down narrow lanes to discover some of Haarlem’s gems - pickled herring, masterpieces by Frans Hals, and, at 100 feet high, Holland’s greatest pipe organ. I love Haarlem. We spent our honeymoon there in 1962.
Can you believe that as a Dutch guy I had never been to Haarlem until I was 35! And I worked in that street in your opening scene for my first freelance contract. Since then I fell in love with Haarlem. Such a great city
Amazing!!!
I was also borned in Haarlem. Do you know that Harlem in New York IS was named from the Dutch town Haarlem. Like Brooklyn was named to the Dutch town Breukelen. New York was former New Amsterdam. And pleaded by the Dutch explorer Peter Stuyvesant
I miss the huge herring for lunch huge fishes so good......
I was born in Haarlem at the tail end of WW 2. Lived above my father's bakery. Then moved to Amsterdam. Moved to Can a at 6 years page. Came back in '67 and saw my Oma and Opoe before they both passed away. Saw as much of family and country in 3 weeks as we could. Just loved our visit. Much too short.
What a beautiful city!!!!! Looks so unreal because of a special type of architecture))
That herring looks delicious
I love herring, bitterballen and great Dutch beer...Cafe Hoppe in Amsterdam! Thanks Rick! Rick Steves Tours are the BEST!
Very nice video! I'd strongly recommend to check out the "hofjes" of Haarlem; about 20 small courtyards, surrounded with houses for the widowed women. A closed-off, safe community if you will. Each "hofje" has its own style! Truely amazing. You can see them in many Dutch cities (including in Amsterdam), but Haarlem is well-known for them!
Love you Rick! Haarlem Rules!!
You are very interesting and delightful to watch. I actually found this channel trying to show my wife Nederlands Haring and stayed for the content. Cheers
A traveller's delight, an ideal place to learn about European cultural heritage.
well done, thank you
Hi, can u subscribe to my youtube channel too ?

We love haring ... and Haarlem
Wow,no mention of the Ten Boom museum and the Hiding Place or Corrie Ten Boom.
Good clip of this. By the way, does anyone know what song at 3:47
I live here !! :D HAARLEM CITY
contrary to other touristic foods like haggis, wich is only eaten by tourists, we really love our herring. If you get it from the right merchant it is one of the outright tastiest things in the world. It is delicious! The one in this video looks good and fresh
Thank you for the video. Watching while vacationing in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Just went to Amsterdam twice in Jan/Feb while backpacking through Europe, meant to do Haarlem and The Hague but schedule didn't permit it, seems this may be a good thing tho..I need to come back in the summertime for herring!
the haring tent is all over the country
so funny to hear you say "grote kerk" xD
I want see Europe, my dream.
Where do you live? I want to see Asia Or North- South America. That's my dream.
Justin Huisman I live in my beautiful country,,,canada
Farhat World O, that's cool. Love to visit it some time :)
Robert Haarlem Nou en? Had jij gewild dat Adolf aan de macht kwam?
What are you waiting for?
Because of the marinate process the herring is not raw anymore, this process prevent decay

Greetings from Sri Lanka 🙏🙏🙏💋💋💋❤❤❤😘😘😘
I’ve been to Haarlem and I’m disappointed that this doesn’t mention that Beethoven used to play that organ. I learned this from the missionaries that keep up the Corrie ten Boom house, right around the corner.
It was Mozart. (plus Mendelsohn and Händel)
@@PhilippoDanyep, the first one was Händel, 2 years after the organ was built.
Ehm, being a citizen of Haarlem, I can tell you that the Haringstand you filmed is in Amsterdam on the Herengracht and not in my beautifull Haarlem. Did you know that the pipe organ in the Church was played by W.A. Mozart himself?
Yes. Herengracht!!! Amsterdam!!!
Hello from Sri Lanka ! Can you subscribe to my youtube channel too ?
Haarlem World
don't miss the café/pub In den Uiver voted as best café in Holland a few times just a cross the church.
Dutch style sushi?
god i trust in u and one day i visit Netherlands for painting =)
The church also has the shortest text on a grave, ever. "Ik" (meaning "I"). Can you get more renaissance than that? I still wonder who "ik" was. I would also recommend the new version of the St Bavo church, now 120 years old. Very impressive church as well. It lies 15 minutes walk southwest of the city center.
yes, but do they sell legalised american ganja in the coffee shops there?
Beautiful!!!! Rick! Will you marry me? We have travel in common and so much else! lol
