There were a lot of people who didn't end up liking this anime, but you have to admit, this song is dope as hell.
Honestly if it were longer, that’d fix its problems. Then they could give more characterization, backstory and world building instead of introducing people and then killing them off with little emotional impact
It definitely needed to be longer. It was at its best when it was character driven and less fantasy adventure. You can have a character driven fantasy adventure, but not with fully fleshed out characters and world in the time span they gave themselves. If they couldn't make it longer, then it would have been better to keep Abraham as the main villain and save the Daimyo for season 2. Also, I would have liked it better if they hadn't killed off every named female character except Saki. Natsumaru's death was the only one that came off as necessary for the plot or characterization.

0:53 the animation throughout this entire walking sequence is pretty damn good. In fact, every cut like that is so intricate and impressive. Every step and movement just flows so well. The dynamic camera angles and movement also help immensely.
Guessing some rotoscoping or live action reference was used? Mappa uses that a lot, works great here!

Because animation is very rarely ever done to seem like it's in a 3D environment in an anime
This truly had the potential to be something special. Everyone on this team put their soul into the music, designs, and art of the show. This could’ve been an incredible successor for shows like Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop… Whenever I see this opening, all I can think of is what could’ve been. Yusuke’s story is one of a kind and interesting enough for an entire anime. You had the chance to tell such a unique story, one that could’ve easily been forgotten in history given it’s context. It’s one of kind story and you felt the NEED to put mechs and magic in the show…

I loved it. because it was from a black man, most important. but moreso a black man working with GREATS in Japan to tell HIS story how HE chooses and not appease some weeb. and as a result he attracted TONS of casuals to anime because of it. What I like in the anime is that they did a good job of demonstrating Yasuke's strength.
Normal samurai just cuts and stabs, while Yasuke straight up bisects people. He is the juggernaut of Oda Nobunaga.
Err because that how katana works? Its just a thin swords that mostly used as a secondary weapon, not a fcking greatsword

I can also see it reasoning on it to antagonize better Yasuke straight up godly power, giving proper challenge yknow. Like Gatts was straight up unstoppable vs men, they have to give him demons to slay.
I also feel it could've been done better, but i dont see it as a major flaw. This show was awesome, glad it was produced.

As a black Otaku, I say don't hype such low level things. This was a soulless series. Flying Lotus and Mappa did all they could, they where like Doctor Frankenstein, but their monster didn't have a strong enough electrical charge. The lack of writing skill from the writer's side was the missing component.

This anime had everything handed to it. Amazing music, amazing VAs, Samurai story with Black lead, Highly talented Studio and it still fumbled. They really could have left all the magic and mechs and could have just had the story of Yasuke before the 20 years and it would've been fine.

I feel like Yasuke's plot could've been something amazing
Here's my Idea of what the story could've been about:

The story could've been about Yasuke trying to figure out if he is still the violent man he was in war or trying to seek peace and acceptance with who he was and move on, so to get his answer he works as a hired swordsman who ends up with the little girl. He finds out the little girl has little time left and that her caretaker (the one to hire Yasuke) is trying to find a cure, but the Emperor knows about this and is hunting down the woman and little girl so Yasuke is hired to protect them from the Emperor's mercenaries. Throughout the story Yasuke learns more and more things like lessons, philosophie, and morales, he slowly begins regaining his memory of the past and begins to accept that he will achieve peace after he finishes the contract. Of course some side characters and fan favorites will die and maybe some of the killed off characters have a sad backstory or are just cruel beings who only seek violence.
Then again, I feel like Yasuke would be like Samurai Champloo if the story was like that, but in my opinion it would've been a great story.
You guys are all so unoriginal. You just compare it to whatever manga-isekai-shonen-circle-jerk formulas you want it to be. This story is orginal AF. You just didn't like it. that doesn't make it no longer original, because many other people think it is. like me. There is no other anime like yasuke. Made in japan or anywhere else. and not made by any other black man but lesean thomas, who has a legendary legacy for black anime that you don't have to like, but respect. its inspired you to actually believed you could attract tens of millions like the creator has, attract superstars like mappa and thundercat and flylo and neeflix and let you make an anime. That's how great this show is, its got you guys thinking you can do it too. lmao.

Simply incredible. Flying Lotus and xxyyxx are on different spectrums that really bring their beats to a near psychedelia level. Reminiscent of trip-hop. Love the vibes and the soundtrack. Shout out everyone that worked on this. Never imagined this was an unexpected Anime we needed. Also reminiscent of Afro Samurai - good shit.

This intro gave me all the stars vibes from the end credits of Black Panther. This anime was so beautiful, been proud to be black but now I’m just hype to see black producers and musicians breaching the anime world! The sky is the limit now 🙏🏾 Jun would be proud how this soundtrack came out with the visuals. Hope he’s resting easy in heaven
