Daniel is an exceptionally gifted musician and he plays the hell out of this piece. This is definitely one of the hardest things I ever wrote and I still remember the summer I spent working on it wondering if that work would ever get heard or if I was just wasting a perfectly good summer indoors. It's really gratifying to hear such talent taking the time to learn such complexity (there's an 11/32 meter in the piece, for crying out loud!) but then to also interpret it to such a deep level of understanding. I hear the different circles of Kandinsky's painting intersecting, clashing, interacting, each with its own character. It made me smile and laugh to hear how well Daniel makes sense of the complexities and conveys the music in a way in which the complexity fades into the background of the present experience of enjoying this work. Bravo and thank you!
