Well, I'm thinking about that slogan from way back, when they used to say, Number two tries harder. So the JITB that was 5-star, you received the bun un-toasted; your food arrived so fast, indicating that it was likely already cooked prior to your ordering and sitting there stagnant for awhile; your Sammy was soggy; the fries had no crunch but your churros had a very nice cinnamon-sugar crunch; and the attendant treated you kindly. At the 1-Star JITB, you received what I think was above-average service for a fast-food drive-thru; the food was served hot; the ingredients were fresher; the fries and churros were crunchy; and the attendant was kind, polite, and thanked you for visiting their particular establishment. They tried harder .. they deserve to be upvoted to a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I wonder if one store is a corporate store that pays for reviews and the other is a franchisee that is in a not as nice neighborhood so stank people give it bad reviews
And as for the upsell most places are required to do that now. Every customer every time.

It melted my heart when Matthew grabbed a napkin and gently cleaned Pauls mouth. That was so cute and showed how much Matthew loves Paul. So adorable!
And Matthew holding the napkin under Paul like a plate to catch anything that might fall so Paul didn't wear his food (or have a mess in the car) was really thoughtful!
I had to watch it again. It's just so loving and sweet and considerate. Matt's the best! 😍

The service from the 1-star had all the telltale signs of a place that had gotten bad reviews and therefore were trying their hardest to be better. That’s probably why it was slower (ensuring the food is fresh cooked to perfection to avoid mouth cutting or food poisoning) and why they got Matthew to confirm the order was correct.
I enjoyed this video! I’d love to see maybe a review/comparison of like a retail store to see how customer service is

Churros are fried and have cinnamon sprinkled on top before giving to the customers. The churros, onion rings, tacos, chicken nuggets, chicken strips, and all fried items besides fries/hashbrowns/chicken patties should be fresh every order because they’re less likely to be ordered. And there’s no place to store fried items except fries/hashbrowns/chicken patties. Fries/hashbrowns/chicken patties are always a gamble because they could be fresh, old, or old and then refried.
One more random thing is that the iced coffee is made by mixing milkshake vanilla cream with the black coffee. 😂

A fast food drive thru 1 star vs 5 star rating is fully dependent at the time of day and how busy they are. A location you go to at 1215pm would be a completely different experience if you went at 4pm.
Having worked in fast food for years, the immediate upsell at the 5-star is 100% a corporate decision and the company Very Strongly Encourages employees to do that. I saw another comment mention that the 5-star is likely corporate owned and the 1-star is likely franchised, so the upselling and the high reviews make sense.
I enjoyed the “blind” taste test. Yes definitely do another. Mr Maples comments were great.
I love Matthew saying 'ya ya ya we know' then cut to Paul saying 'you can show them with your hands, I can't see'. 😂😂
Matthew is fabulous, Paul is obviously the Princess, but Mr. Maple is the the star, five star every time, every location.

That was fun! I love that you too have basically the same hairstyle, but the swoops go in different directions. Paul's goes to the left and Mattew's goes to the right. (That's from my perspective.) You guys are both so adorable. Mr. Maple is so chill, you guys are laughing and being silly. He's just back there trying his best to get a nap in.

If you look at them sitting in the car, Paul's swoop points to the passenger window and Matthews points towards the driver's side window. Does that make more sense?

As for JITB or any other fast food place, it really comes down to management. If the management is good, employees are happier and they try harder. When food is so very bad &/or inconsistent, you know they're slapping together various items and throwing them under the heat lamps just so they can take a break and trash talk the manager or owner or other coworkers.
Visit a couple locations (if able) at different times of day (different shifts, different managers) and then decide which location you like more. You may find you like one more in the morning or at lunch, but another location is better in the evening or late at night.
Hope Paul's stomach wasn't dodgy the rest of the day! I don't know if you have fast food frequently or not, but if it's been a long time since I've had it, my stomach is NOT pleased - regardless of how much I loved it.
My theory, complete conjecture - they both can be good or bad depending on when you happen to turn up, whether the food is fresher or older, but the higher rated place is in a location which has more drunk visitors so those customers enjoy the food more 😅
I agree it has to be the location. If the five star one is near a mall for instance, maybe it's a satisfying order after a shopping day, or after a date. So you're in a good mood
But maybe the one-star place is a bit out of the way, so you're gonna be irritated as soon as there's something you slightly dislike

The first Jack in the Box looks delicious and fantastically put together.
In the UK we have Wimpy, KFC, Burger King, Five Guys and McDonald’s. And Jack in the Box sadly has no plans to operate in the UK hopefully in the future we might.

I worked as a manager in fast food for a long time. It's never the location, it's the crew. You might get impeccable service for breakfast, but if you go back to the same place for dinner, it's trash. Typically all your adult crew work during the day and your evening shifts are made up of high school and college kids. Managers who are barely 18+ not sure of themselves or their crew isn't willing to respect them for whatever reason. This of course isn't always the case, but I don't ever go to any of my old stores in the evening.
I work in fast food now as a college student and you're right lol, I only ever work day shift on weekends and my most skilled coworkers are by far the full time ones on day shift.
I have NEVER had a dog that wasn't ALL UP IN IT when i have food around... WOW! Mr. Maple really is so well trained!!

My ex brother-in-law had a friend who was blind, she'd know exactly what type of coin we dropped on the floor, she'd say, you dropped a quarter or you dropped a loonie. We gave her an old television to listen to and she was over the moon. Sweet girl.

OMG! I can see what used to be the old "grain elevator" out the side of the window. (At least that was what my mom told me it was 55 yrs ago when we would pass it on the way to visit my grandma in Seattle after we moved to Maple Valley. Ohh, I just realized the "Maple" connection). This is so fun! I love Jack in the Box! I'm getting so hungry for the sandwich Paul is testing. I love their sandwiches. My favorite years ago was the one where the bun was named somthing that sounded like "Chupacabra", lol, but I can't remember the exact name, with bacon, chicken, and tomatoes, etc.

I don't think so. Maple was already named when Paul got him. Some people like to put a Mr or Miss prefix on their dog/cat's name. Alao, it could be because the name Maple could be a boy or a girl so they call him Mr to show he is a boy. I knew a cat named Mr. T and I always laughed when I said his name. 😅

This was fun. Makes sense that fastfood reviews can quickly change because of turnover. It shows that a caring, and good employee really give the best experience and should be valued.
