    I loved this whole series of videos on the north of England - being a Mancunian myself I think you did a great job.....to all the prospective tourists watching this, remember there is so much more to the UK than just London.

  • @markbates5513
    @markbates5513 Před 7 lety +45

    As a born and bred Mancunian, now living in the USA, I have to say I enjoyed the tour. Made me a little homesick. In my experience, visitors to the UK overlook the major Northern cities altogether. As far as they are concerned, London IS England, and if they venture North at all, it is to York and/or Edinburgh, and that is about it. So, thanks for at least showing that the UK has a lot to offer, not least in those "industrial cities," which have, in reality, done a lot better job re-inventing themselves in recent years than many of their American post-industrial counterparts. As for those pissed off about the reference to Manchester's being the UK's "second city." Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. Who cares. Population size. Economy size. All that. Doesn't matter. It's petty. It's the cultural vibrancy of a city that makes it hum, not statistics on relative "size." And the fact is, Birmingham may be the UK's second city by size, but Manchester's football, its music, its arts scenes have put it light years ahead of Birmingham for decades now. Maybe that will change, or is changing. But as of now, Manchester deserves the accolade. Manchester is a great city. And so is Liverpool. Leeds. Newcastle, etc.

      Musically, Birmingham gave us The Moody Blues, Napalm Death, Judas Priest, ELO, Black Sabath, Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Beat, UB40 and Duran Duran, among others.
      So not sure it's a clean victory for Manchester there.
      Very similar cities: post industrial; both blue-collar with lots of canals and Victorian era buildings etc.

    If you go again, and its sunny (haha), get drinks in the gay village on Canal street. Doesn't matter whether you are gay or not really, it is just a really nice part of the city to go for a drink and lots of historical buildings around that area.. also sometimes they will have food trucks and street food in piccadilly gardens not far from Canal street... oh and China Town and Northern Quarter are right by there

    Great videos and I love the enthusiasm shown about my Country especially by Americans not just getting on the London Eye and whinging about driving on the 'wrong' side of the road. Seek out "Steve & Jodi's" posts for similar. The only sad thing, for someone who remembers you only had to travel 10 miles out of London to hear changes in accents, is the lack of them in these excellent vlogs. I would not have pegged Hannah or anyone else as Mancunian. Oh well, television I suppose but it is a pity.

    Ta ta for now or TTFN! I enjoyed you two and the North of England a lot. You went to and explained the histories of places I had only heard about to the point that I feel almost an expert. Of course, for me, the food and ale are very interesting. I usually had to have a meal and a drink after watching. Ahhh. Interestingly, my great-grandfather owned barges on the Grand Union Canal which went north to such places as Manchester which interested me a lot. He and his family lived rather comfortably at the London terminus, now called Little Venice, a stone's throw from Abbey Road where the Beatles' album cover featured them crossing the road.
    I shall miss seeing your excellent coverage of England's north but look forward with much anticipation to your upcoming adventures. Well done you!

    Hey guys! I really enjoyed the video. I just got my acceptance letter from the University and hopefully I will be there soon. I've never been to Manchester so it's nice to know these places for when I get there. Thanks!

    I loved this series! You did a great job. And what's good is that if you come back there's still so much more to explore and learn. Shame you missed out on Newcastle, though! The city centre and quayside are gorgeous. A lot of my friends from the northwest came over a couple of years ago and said it reminded them of London, which I thought was an interesting comparison. I'm glad you both had such a good time while you were here!

    Hi travelers, How is it going?
    Big thanks for covering an amazing city in North Uk. By the way I am Mohammed from Oman. Why I am here because you are hanging around in my favorite city. Actually I have been in Manchester twice, first time for studying and second time was 3 weeks ago for visiting. I love everything in Manchester, except the weather but it does not matter for me. I called Manchester the city that never sleep. Kind people, unbelievable nightlife, Manchester United team. Also I have been in many cities in the Uk like York, Liverpool, Chester ,Blackpool, Nottingham, Lake District, Peak District, Cardiff, fog city (London), Preston and some countryside but I love Manchester even more than London 😊.

  • @mydestinationvideohq6565

    Yo Vagabros, that's my home town! It is unrecognisable from the place I left in 1981 though. Bears no relation at all. See you in Andalucia some time, you're about due for a visit!
