    Sorry to be pernickety, but factcheck at 7:07 - the textile industry was centred in that region because the rainy climate suited grazing sheep (for wool) and the cultivation of flax (for linen). It was not to grow cotton there - no cotton was grown in the Manchester region. All the raw cotton was imported from the Americas and South Asia for subsequent manufacture into garments.

    Great video. Lovely to see my local area up there. Definitely wouldn’t say Bamford Edge is a secret but it’s true a lot of people don’t visit more of the Peak District than Mam Tor and Dovedale. There is so much beauty around here and some of the landscape has to be seen to be believed. Fingers crossed that everything gets back to normal for you in the next year.

    I was so fortunate to get to live there while doing my Masters. Coming from Barbados (beaches and sun), I really didn't expect to fall in love with this city in the way that I did. So thanks for this little nostalgic moment that I've gotten to have through watching this video :)

    The area around Salford Quays used to be rough as back in the day. I remember playing a football match there as a teenager for my local 11 a side team in Manchester and being sworn at by the parents of the opposing side and felt that we could get lynched at any moment, well maybe im exaggerating but tou get my point.

    Amy knows LOTS more about LOTR than I do although I was living in New Zealand when the first movie came out and even ended up to be in Wellington in a hotel next to the movie theater where the world premier was.
    (And no, I didn't get a ticket because Gandalf, Hobbits, Harry Potter etc. isn't my thing)

    I don't think the cotton was actually grown in Manchester. USA, slave trade? It's all in the history books.
    And the guy who designed the Beetham Tower was actually only 4 at the time, and hadn't got the Leggo with the curved pieces yet..

      @@m1geo Cheers George! I can’t remember but I think it was from America - there was a thing called the ‘cotton famine’ in the 1800s which I once looked up. I recall it was quite interesting.

    Places like Manchester and Newcastle have dramatically changed since I was filming up there for bbc dramas and films back in early 2000’s. People are nice, but the fucking weather is shite!

    I enjoyed the 2nd part of the blog as the journey around manchester can be undertaken by anyone who wants a town blog,I wander towns and have been to Manchester a few times and it is not a city that impresses me. It might also be because as a Scouser I find my old home city better with older things I enjoy seeing LOL.
    Some of the walks near manchester are great, particularly as you are in the Peak District, had you done a day' or days of exploring that area I think it would have been better.
    Well done for trying something different,

      Got 2 big series in the works: Swizterland, Italy + Croatia from the summer, and Iceland from October. Editing is taking a long time though as I do these in my spare time and I've had a few very busy months.
