IN JANUARY I TURN 63, BUT IN 1977 (APRIL) I SET DOWN IN FRANKFURT GERMANY, AND ENDED UP IN A SOUTHERN AREA BELOW NUREMBURG, ON A ARMY BASE CALLED, "PINDER BARRACKS". FROM THERE TIL JANUARY OF 1980. I ONLY SET UP THIS TIME PERIOD TO SHARE HOW IN THE "DEUTCHLAND" I WAS INTRODUCED TO THE MANY BANDS THAT EUROPE HAD TO OFFER, INCLUDING MY FAVORITE ONE, SAID SCOPIONS. THE ULI ROTH ERA WAS WHAT I HAD, AND IT IS TO ME THE GREATEST ERA, NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SOLID ROCKING STUDIO ALBUMS, BUT ALSO THE "TOKYO TAPES LIVE" DOUBLE ALBUM (YES WE WERE PURE VINYL STILL). MY FAVORITES BESIDE THE LIVE TOKYO, WERE THE ALBUMS I LISTENED TO, "FLY TO THE RAINBOW", "IN TRANCE", "VIRGIN KILLER", "TAKEN BY FORCE", "LOVE DRIVE" AND "ANIMAL MAGNETISM" WHICH ENDS ALBUMS I PURCHASED. INTERSTINGLY AS YOU WILL HEAR IN THIS VIDEO, IT WAS AT THE "WORLD SERIES OF ROCK" IN CLEVELAND OHIO (MY HOME) THAT THEY FIRST PLAYED IN AMERICA IN 1979. THEY PLAYED THE SAME YEAR IN THE FAMED SOLDIERSFELD IN NUREMBURG ALSO. IT IS PERFECTLY REASONABLE THAT THEY PLAYED TO THE CLEVELAND AUDIENCE BECAUSE NONE OTHER CITY HAS BEEN OPEN TO ROCK/BLUES/METAL, ESPECIALLY SOMEONE NEW, LIKE CLEVELAND. WE WERE THE FIRST TO BRING "RUSH" DOWN FROM CANADA WHEN THEY DEBUTED AS WELL. IF YOU LOOK ON YOU TUBE YOU WILL SEE A LIVE SET OF "SAILS OF CHARON" WITH THE BEST LINE-UP I KNEW. THE TRACK "SUN IN MY HAND" WAS GREAT AS WELL. BEING IN THE U.S ARMY DURING THE "COLD WAR HISTORY" THEIR ANTHEM "WINDS OF CHANGE" WAS CERTAINLY SOMETHING THAT MADE ME JOYFUL.

In the 70's they were just doing what they wanted to do, they were free and young, in the 90's they were getting old and totally managed by producers... yet, "Eye II Eye" is my favorite album and I valorate it more by knowing it was such a hard time for the band.

@@jnyfumare - Michael is one of the greatest guitarists to ever pick up the instrument, but he was an alcoholic and drug addict for most of his career, sadly due to stage fright and he’s the one who sabotaged his career. Scorpions do not owe their success in the US.. to Michael Schenker. They made their name here through touring with Mathias Jabs as their lead guitarist. Michael is exaggerating his involvement greatly. Although he never toured the U.S. with them, Uli Roth did much more to help Scorpions build popularity in the states with the records he played on, which were all released here in their time, especially Tokyo Tapes, which sold over 300,000 copies in America, than Michael did with one album. Rudolf helped Michael out financially for many years and now Michael shows his gratitude by stabbing Rudolf in the back. Nice brother.

Just because Michael has been crying like a baby about it for six years now doesn’t mean it’s true. He played on the Lovedrive album, but he only lasted two weeks on the first leg of the Lovedrive tour in Europe. By the time they made it to America, they had Mathias on lead guitar. Michael loves to take all the credit for Scorpions’ success in America, but the fact is that they were going to break out here in ‘79 regardless of Michael’s involvement. When their contracts expired in ‘78, there was a bidding war among every major record label in the world for Scorpions. The plan was to finally come to the U.S. to tour after releasing their next album, which became Lovedrive. That plan was made before Michael got involved in the Lovedrive album. The fact is, Uli Jon Roth had more to do with building Scorpions’ popularity than Michael Schenker ever did. Although they never toured in the States with Uli, the records he made with them were released in the U.S. and sold successively more, culminating in the double-live Tokyo Tapes. Uli chose to leave after that Japan tour to follow his own vision for his music and, as Michael had just left UFO, he was asked to rejoin Scorpions, but it wasn’t destined to last because Michael also wanted to follow his own vision and left to form The Michael Schenker Group. Michael has grossly exaggerated his role in Scorpions’ success in America, to say the least. He had nothing to do with Scorpions’ biggest hits, like No One Like You, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You and Wind of Change. Those were written by Rudolf Schenker, Klaus Meine and Herman Rarebell.
