      Exactly!!! Bringing Red China into the WTC or simply trying to make such a government seem worthy,....huge effing mistake.
      3 years ago I was at a Hoover Institutiion discussion on various matters which included VDH and George Schultz, who impressed me for his age....Anyway, many words were spoken, subtly, regarding China. Kissinger and '72 Nixon admin were brought up. There were those who openly warned Nixon, but I don't recall anyone predicting that the then world's largest population would turn slave labor into a profit-monger magnet for the U.S. - and that was the predictable part. E.g. once that happened, the U.S. handed over the greatest transfer of wealth in human history.

    General Keene didn’t say the quiet part out loud. Mutually assured destruction (MAD) is a term that many of us that served during the Cold War era are familiar with, yet it’s distressing that many don’t understand the hell that would result from Russia using even a tactical nuclear weapon. The loss of life from radiation sickness and cancers would make the last two years of the pandemic look like a bad flu season.

      When an idiot goes as far as Putin has in rattling the nuclear missiles, it is clear, he is as mentally cognizant as Biden is. There is no dealing with idiots. Putin's problem is he is using the threat to keep Russia itself from being attacked, more or less as Keane said blackmail, to get his way. And if it works he will just keep doing that all around Europe. Sometimes you make less noise running, then tiptoeing.

However, instead the US seems intent on escalation and a direct conflict with NATO and Russia.. we have to question what is going on with US/NATO and what their real intentions are.. it certainly doesn't seem to be finding a diplomatic or peaceful end to the conflict. It wouldn't take much I think, an agreement to hold independence referendum in Dombas region, a mutual non-aggression pact treaty between Russia and Ukraine after the referendum outcome..and a guarantee from Ukraine and NATO of NATO-neutrality in Ukraine on Russia's border.

    Russia never used atomic or nuclear weapons. In contrast, America used atomic weapons in Japan. And have used chemical weapons in southeast Asia and has experimented bio weapons in Africa and other countries.
    So, the side that has its conscience seared th use wmd would be America.

      @Primitarian Před 2 lety +3

      Yes, and I think Russia could make an argument of moral superiority on that point. Up to now. But if Russia goes nuclear itself now, it would make itself a far worse offender and hypocrite, having done so with full knowledge of what nuclear weapons can do, including provocation of a global thermonuclear holocaust, and as part of a war which it started without provocation.

      Japan! America in WW11 warned Japan three times, lay down your arms and stop this aggression, (of course you will remember Perl Harbour) but sadly Japan refused to concede. Hence Hiroshima etc. That is why,today, the use of nuclear weapons would be horrific.because the whole world saw the awful effects of a nuclear weapon. It has kept world peace for over 75 years. Another issue, do you really think China is the nice guy? Or Russia and yes Putin did use chemical weapons in Syria, everybody knows that

      Kissinger was a traitor handling the Viet Nam war. According to General Giap, the commander of the North Vietnamese Communist Army, we won the Viet Nam war in 1969 after Tet. Giap said " our army was decimated and we were ready to capitulate. However, we saw Teddy Kennedy, Jane Fonda and the US news media and knew if we could hold on you would quit."
      Kissinger stalled and we not only quit, we lost 10,000 more men thanks to Henry Kissinger.

      True. Putin is no longer fully rational. He constantly pushes his luck further, and tests NATO and US resolve, and so far has consistently got away with things and been met with weakness.. until he faces serious consquences for his actions, ie his military taking a NATO hammering or at least the warning of that happening, I don't think he will stop and he will escalate things to the point of tactical nuclear use eventually. The other option, is to try a diplomatic approach, and to be fair, Putin and the Russian's have been trying diplomatic approaches over Ukraine's Dombas disputed region for 8 years now but the West and UN has been unwilling to engage.
