Do you like the idea of traversing the land of Siberia in a Frostpuck and Company of Heros style while Russians shoot you at any chance they get?
Great because that's what this game is.

Yea, I'm always happy to see media that isn't subversively pushing Marxism. But this game goes hard in the opposite direction, making the communists into cartoon villains, and sucking any intrigue or drama out of the story. The actual gameplay is unpolished as you've pointed out. But the real tragedy is that they fucked up the historical accuracy of the story.
The setting is fascinating, but the actual game does a terrible job of world building.
Their horrible writing is so bad, it ruins the historic setting of the game. Which is the greatest novelty of said game.
