I would never give a grown man with nothing physically stopping him from working any money whatsoever. It’s for his kid? Done. It’s for his sick spouse? Done. Him? Healthy adult man? Nah.
Ok, this might sound a bit mean on my part, but here are my two cents on this; first, let me make this abundantly clear: I’m not happy he is being evicted, but I believe clarity is needed on this story: 1. He caused of his own undoing: he antagonized each and every person who reviewed his terrible PC; he even went as far as to use the race card as an excuse for his lack of talent. He was not bullied: he lashed out at anyone who would point out what a terrible job he made. 2. I believe you (Kristopher) yourself offered him a chance to do a redemption build on your own reaction video. That was a class act on your part. And this was WAY before Linus managed to convince Stefan to do it. Did Stefan accept your gracious offer? no! 3. MANY people (non-CZcams celebrities) reached out to him on twitter (myself included) and explicitly told him that the “bullying” he was being subjected to was due to his attitude towards criticism, more than to his PC building skills; a self-recognition of his mistake would simply make the problem go away. Did he back down? No! He doubled down on his own victimization. What happened after the Linus video? The “bullying” stopped. I have rarely seen “the verge PC build” being mentioned anymore after that. So, while I’m not happy about his current rough patch, and sincerely hope he gets his feet back on solid ground, I feel it’s only fair to say that he is not a victim of circumstance, his circumstances are a result of his own actions and attitudes. Should people help him if they feel like it? Sure! But please do so knowing the full story
Thank you for taking the time to provide a proper backstory for this. I don't think what you have written is mean at all, but actually as nice as it could be. Too much happened after that video, which I really can't get behind and definitely not something I'd support with money. Dude didn't just make one single mistake. He made one mistake and started digging with it in tow, while the walls slowly began to collapse. It takes more that leads to eviction than a 5+ year old video.
@@TheDark0815it’s indeed from his own behavior but holy shit imagine you not having a home anymore because of how “angrily” you spoke to some people on twitter and because you made a video where pc parts were wrongly put together. Crazy world we live in, shit

Of course, reputation will still follow you to some extent... but I fail to sincerely believe the video and aftermath alone is the reason for being evicted. Sure, he lost his job which is a huge hit, but that was 5 years ago and I can't imagine there being no possibility to get back on his feet. Maybe less likely in his previous position/field of work, maybe not without cutting back on other things/costs. As someone living on the brink and having to do thankless jobs for a period of time to just stay above the water, I just don't think he made the right choices job-wise to avoid being in this situation.
@@kfactor09That's not why he's losing his house. Not even close. It's because he's a bad journalist. He could have found a new career. He could have owned up to the criticism. He instead made every single wrong move out of nothing more than ego protection. I don't even remotely feel bad for him.
Sent this with a donation to Ettiene, “At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” I really hope this kid pulls through, I’ve been in similar situations where I feel like the whole world is collapsing in on me, and I understand what it feels like to have to walk back statements you made when pressure was being applied. It’d be the internets best “turn the toxicity” story in quite a while.
We all will remember what he said and did, and especially how he made us feel when he insulted the community instead of apologizing. Then he went on to make all the excuses possible. The LTT video didn't change anything, just two liars on screen reluctantly there for "content." I guess people take things for face value because it was clear as day he was disgruntled the entire time. This is why it didn't get people off his back and also instead of disappearing off the internet, he just left a giant, ugly mark, continuing to fester. Of course no sane HR personnel would hire him, not because he's clueless about his supposed area of expertise but his self-centered, egotistical personality. If he handled himself with even a tiny bit of humility, he could have been the next face in the tech space. Instead, he chose to immortalize himself as a douchebag. If it's not clear, his entire family also dislikes him, that's why they don't want to help him. It's amazing how egotistical he remains. Kristofer is also cruel to necro him back. If he wants fast cash, let people come and punch in the face for $100 each. I would bet at least a hundred people would easily show up.

As someone who recently struggled through the job search process. It’s fucking insane how competitive the market has become. I was rejected by every entry level industry either because I was “over qualified” and they didn’t want some who would look for better opportunities, or I was in experienced as I had more than 7 years exclusively in production rather than service or customer service. Most companies were offering $12/hour - $15/hour and I need a minimum of $20/hour to take care of bills. It’s just insane how many place I applied and interviewed for just to get bullshit rejection letters. It does very depending on your job market but there are plenty of essays explaining the current trend of worker displacements, layoffs, and poor management. It was just another example in a list of thousands of big giant tech/gaming media companies that bully everyone around and shill for corporations instead of protecting consumers, proving that on top of all that they had absolutely no idea what they were doing and don't understand the products they cover and shill for. The Verge was always 100% at fault... and Stephan given more time or more guidance from people that actually understand tech, could've done a way better job. IIRC he had only covered things like phones and other popular tech prior, he wasn't in the custom PC world at all and they just dumped it on him with a deadline.
I can't believe the Verge and him had a meeting on what to do, approved it, had teams set it up, filmed, edit, and reviewed before posting it. But when everything went downhill, he alone took the fall.
All these online bullies are the exact type to get bullied in school and when it’s their turn to show heart, they couldn’t accept someone who is trying to better himself.

I can say as someone who has now built a computer and loves messing around it this and the reactions to this video is what got me into computers and helped me not make mistakes. It sucks that he is in a tough place because I feel like there were many better routes rather than just bashing him and firing him.
There were also better routes than calling people criticising him a bunch of racist and haters and pretending everything he did was perfect. Check what the guy did after the video sparked controversy
@@zrider100z I don't agree with is takes on "racism" (even though we would be naive to act like it doesn't exist in the community, but I digress). It was just a messy situation because truth be told, the criticism came in mostly "a-hole" form. So in typical internet fashion, it went like Horrible video > A-hole response to video > A-hole response to video response > Both sides playing the victim lol
@jahsoul357 Even if the criticism was in "a-hole form" as you said, it doesn't make the point invalid. Nobody is entitled to expect to get only flowers and rainbows back, especially when you work for a company like The Verge. He could have admitted to his mistakes and at the same time disavowed the foul language, and it would do good for him. Do you think he's void of responsibility because someone told something bad about him?
@@zrider100z Thing is, I never justified his response nor said anything about what he was or responsible for. What I'm saying is people tried to play the victim to his responses while at the same time were the ones that introduced that kind of energy. People put out bad energy and in response got bad energy, and then both sides played the victim. Does that mean he was right in response? No
@@jahsoul357 Why is it Ahole response? He was wrong, he was corrected. Does he have some kind of special "Don't tell what's right" privilege because of him being black?
I hadn't seen the OG video and had only seen the LTT bits about it and then him on LTT, he honestly comes across as a genuinely good guy, I hope that he can get the funds he needs
But he's supposed to be the expert in that situation and he acted as one even though he didn't know shit. Imagine ruining your pc because the tutorial video states total nonsense. I don't understand why he is complaining. You can't expect to find a job as a child caretaker when there's a viral video of you beating a child. Same situation here just in a different field.
Linus Tech Tips also brought him onto the show and helped him out, which was really cool. According to him, Verge didn't help things either by just winging it and not really having a script to go off of.
But the thing is, he was giving the same energy that he was giving, so I don't know if it is a reap what you sow moment. Folks will have selective memory about it but he was getting absolutely crushed and he must have felt a way about it. I'm not saying he is right in the way he responded but it's funny how people want to act like jerks then play the victim when energy is reflected back. It is what it is..lol
This reminds me... Decades ago, my father was a computer development e hinder, and while working on a defective board, the first transistor he tested was defective. So was the second. After a few more, he realized something was a bit fishy. He identified static electricity as the culprit, and fixed it with a grounded metal plate in his shoe. After that, he found far fewer defective components.
Why give money to a singular dude instead of giving your disposable income to an actual charity, like abused women or cancer in children? Who cares about that guy, seriously. Hes an abled body and should be able to live a normal life like the other abled bodied people around him
The best part of all of this is that you have one guy fucking up...but then being criticized by other people who make their living by...just sit at their computer and watch videos and commenting. Nobody here is a hero
I avoided that whole situation because I felt like it would devolve into that. Even if it’s not a great build, and he was noobing it up. . . He’s still building it. We still need to spread the message that you can do this yourself. Anyone can over come the task, And anyone can learn a thing or two.
The verge was 100% responsible for that disaster. They set him up to fail. I watched that LTT video and nothing would've saved that video. I feel for him. Dude didn't deserve the bullying
It’s nice to know that I was right to think that you post good content and miss seeing it for a year or idrk, and now you really are back again, keep it up!
guy never deserved any of the hate. he did something he was well in over his head on. and put a piece that was green lit by his superiors who knew just as little as he did apparently. no one needs to point any fingers at him. give him a job.
I blame Verge, not the guy himself lol. This is the epitome of “you fucked up but I don’t want to see you die because of it”. Especially if this guy redeemed himself, I think someone needs to help him out.
I actually was under the impression that it was the Verge's fault not Stefan's, think about it, they had the scripts, the editors, and the QA that all decided the video was ready to be uploaded, Stefan was the sacrificial lamb IMO and did not deserve the hatred. (They got a Mac user to do their PC build video, their choice, either way IMO it was the Verge's fault and bad managers)
Even if the build sucked, it doesn’t mean he should actually lose a place to live over it. I don’t know jack squat about building PCs but I don’t think I should lose my house because people disliked my build.
I really feel like a lot of people severely underestimate how badly The Verge threw him under the bus. People cite that he was shitty to people online about the video but he should have never been in a position to begin with where he was able to do that. The Verge literally shit out his video and left him to the wolves instead of taking on the blame themselves of a rushed shoot and lack of response until cutting him lose. A good media company would have shielded him and have it set up where he wasn't to respond to comments online or even better, have himself lay low for a while while they took care of things.
Crazy part is yes he built it but it wasn’t his script. He was told less than 48 hours before shooting. His job was to follow what he was told ONTOP of the fact he told them he wasnt experienced
If you are willing to make a mistake like that you can be an expert. If you continue to make mistakes like that you will be an engineer, then you will get fired. No one should be made fun of so much that they don’t get to choose.
Remember when he got into a stream with someone and said that people negative respond to his pc video build because of they're just "bunch of jealous nerds" and "bunch of racists"? He did all this to himself and with all the time he got after the incident he could've apologize and admit he screw up. But no he didn't and keep onto his ego, he keep on the victim narrative to the point where he is now realizing the it's affecting his life badly, now he wants apologize? Sure apologizing is one thing, but giving him support after repeated bad decisions he made? Hell no. He dug his own grave with his mistakes after mistakes. Better for us to just support those smaller tech creators that make great content. He got his chances to make things right, but he didn't. I feel bad for him but honestly, he had it all coming and should've known better.

I would never give a grown man with nothing physically stopping him from working any money whatsoever. It’s for his kid? Done. It’s for his sick spouse? Done. Him? Healthy adult man? Nah.
Ok, this might sound a bit mean on my part, but here are my two cents on this; first, let me make this abundantly clear: I’m not happy he is being evicted, but I believe clarity is needed on this story:

Maybe less likely in his previous position/field of work, maybe not without cutting back on other things/costs. I really hope this kid pulls through, I’ve been in similar situations where I feel like the whole world is collapsing in on me, and I understand what it feels like to have to walk back statements you made when pressure was being applied.

Most companies were offering $12/hour - $15/hour and I need a minimum of $20/hour to take care of bills. It’s just insane how many place I applied and interviewed for just to get bullshit rejection letters.
