Sure DTR didn’t look great but he actually played better than the stats show. I watched the whole game and there were quite a few drops including a touchdown. Gotta help your qb out especially when he’s a rookie making his second start
My thought was, "Here we go again - DeShone Kizer all over again". Glad to be wrong. Yeah, he's green and he's a work-in-progress NFL-wise - but he got the job done. Granted, it was a "field goal at the end of the game" barely-squeaked-it-across-the-line-into-the-W-column kind of win, but it was a win, and it counts just as much as a 55-to-zero shellacking would.
Although I'll admit - I'd love to see a 55-to-zero win against the Steelers. 🙂

The main issue with the trade for me is the amount that was given up and the quality of play the browns have gotten. The question is has his play been good enough to warrant all the draft picks? I dont think so. The team may be 7-3 but how much of that was Watson and how much was the defence? Give me Mayfield's lower cap hit and the extra firsts over the small amount we have seen from Watson any day. Imagine having Tyreek on that team. I just dont think Deshaun has been transcendent enough to make the trade worth it.
Moving off mayfield was not just about upgrading at QB. I think there was issues amongst the players, the odell thing, Bakers wife saying things on SM. I think AB and KS wanted to clear out the drama. Baker, odell, JJ3, Clowney. All drama all gone. It seemed like KS and Baker weren't getting along and I think the players turned on him. Garrett pretty much dawged baker after he got traded. It was obvious there was drama. Baker was always being a punk to the media after the game. AB didnt draft him and he wanted someone else to be his QB. It happens all the time.The team this year is playing with more heart than I've ever seen a browns team, there's no drama, everyone plays hard. They play like a real team. Its a culture being built. So I think moving off baker was the right decision for everyone.
We have seen Baker play really good. We won games with baker. Baker is playing good now. But we had Baker for 4 years and how many times did he fail to win the game in the 4th qtr? How many times did he get a chance to put the team on his back go and win the game and just failed. You know why you pay watson 230 million? The second half of that Ravens game is why. Bc you need a QB that can win the game late in the 4th. I don't ever remember a time when Baker lead a game winning drive. You wanna be a real contender in the AFC, you wanna go and beat Allen, Mahomes, Burrow in the playoffs. You need a QB that can drive downfield in less than a minute and win the game. And Watson has proven he's that guy.
So at the start of next year. We have all our draft picks from then on, we have a QB for the next 3 years who is not even a top 10 highest paid QB. Kevin Stefanski going into year 5 as HC. Healthy Nick Chubb. The whole defense returning. The browns at the start of next season are gonna be sitting really pretty. The watson contract and draft picks mean nothing at that point.
And now Watson has been outplayed by Flacco of all people. I retract my earlier statement, I would rather have Joe Flacco, the cap space and the picks than what the browns have got out of Watson 😂

I’d still argue the trade Bobby Beatherd of the Chargers made in 1998 to go from 3rd in the draft to 2nd in the draft by also giving the Cardinals a 1st round pick the next year, a 2nd round pick and Pro Bowl KR/PR/RB Eric Metcalf.
As a Raider fan I would like to claim that the jamarcus Russell deal was just as bad.

He outplayed and beat MVP favorite Lamar Jackson. His last play he ran for 25 yards into FG range to set up hopking to kick the game winning FG. Thats what a 230 million dollar franchise QB does. And he did it without nick chubb. He outplayed and beat burrow, was pretty much oerfect again the titans. His stats were good. He didnt have a 400 yard 4 td gane bc he didbt have too. He wasnt being carried by the defense or by nick chubb. Watson was part of the reason we won those games. There is really nothing bad to say about his play this year.

That's about as hard a throw as QB can have. He needs to ne better next year 4sure. But his play this year should make everyone feel comfortable with him.

They knew he had accusations, what had changed was that by the time of the trade, the two grand juries had failed to indict him, so they knew any worry they would have would be the NFL's punishment for him and that there would be nothing legal. The crux of the issue here is that the Browns did this not thinking he would regress, which he clearly did, while still having the same old habits. Those allegations were definitely a thing when he was traded though which was mistake one from the Browns (and yes even as a Texans fan, the fact that so many other teams were begging to trade for him is still embarrassing). Second of all, those "only three years" are still three years where they're wasting a talented defense and by the time they can get out from under Watson, there's no way that defensive core will hold up. You can say Baker wouldn't get them to the Super Bowl but it's not like Deshaun is anywhere close to getting them there either.

It's like they took all of the capital that they built up from their years of sucking and then mortgaged their future to get what they thought was the best QB they could find so they could win a SB right now. The problem with betting it all on 1-2 seasons is bad luck/injuries can easily derail any season. Good teams seem to strive to be just good enough to maybe make the playoffs year after year. If you make the playoffs enough times then eventually you will get lucky. Even the Bengals made a SB that way. They lost, but at least they made it to the game.
It's crazy how wrong fabs are when they talk about the watson trade/deal. I think most browns fans don't follow other teams so they're unaware of what's going on. And trading 3 firsts and giving a massive QB contract is something browns fabs have never seem the browns do so they instantly are negative.
The capital they built up from years of sucking was spent on 3 first round picks in 2017, 4 picks in the top 35 in 2018 including the 1st and 4th. All that was building up for the team to be good in 2020-202?. But it was obvious that baker was a miss at drafting #1.shoulda taken Allen or Lamar in 2018 or Mahomes in 2017. Baker was never gonna get you to the SB. So they traded for watson hoping he would bring elite play to a team that has nick chubb, njoku, garrett in their prime. With a solid roster, great oline. If fans don't understand why they did what they did for watson then I guess you will never understand. He was the only option to upgrade the QB position right away. Baker was not good enough.

I don't think it's fair to judge Deshaun's play this year considering his injury. You said he played in six games prior to injury this year, yet he got injured in the Titans game. Considering that's his actual last healthy game, he really didn't look that bad this year. Playing w/ a rotator cuff injury in your dominant shoulder isn't necessarily easy to do, and that rotator cuff injury directly led to his shoulder fracture + probably a torn labrum. So now its just a matter if he develops nerve damage in his glenoid capsule, which would ruin his career.

They have openly declared the intention to do anything to win a superbowl. When they did the trade, they were too good to get a top 10 pick. What he did against the Ravens was something baker failed to do over and over. Even last year vs the saints on Xmas. Late in the 4th qtr deshaun completed 2 15 yard passes, a 20 yard pass and ran for another 15 on the final drive. Then had 2 td passes dropped. That woulda been game winning tds. That's what you call a franchise QB. Can he go on the road, lead a game winning drive in the 4th quarter. Bc to win in the playoffs you need a QB that can do that.

If Watson was just a cornball like Russell Wilson, we'd all feel kinda bad for him. But the Browns ownership deserves this. Their superbowl window was likely *this* season and maybe if they hadn't alienated Mayfield two years ago, they'd have a real shot.

Sure DTR didn’t look great but he actually played better than the stats show. I watched the whole game and there were quite a few drops including a touchdown. Gotta help your QB out especially when he’s a rookie making his second start The main issue with the trade for me is the amount that was given up and the quality of play the browns have gotten. The question is has his play been good enough to warrant all the draft picks? I don't think so. The team may be 7-3 but how much of that was Watson and how much was the defence? Give me Mayfield's lower cap hit and the extra firsts over the small amount we have seen from Watson any day. Imagine having Tyreek on that team. I just don't think Deshaun has been transcendent enough to make the trade worth it. It's like they took all of the capital that they built up from their years of sucking and then mortgaged their future to get what they thought was the best QB they could find so they could win an SB right now. The problem with betting it all on 1 to 2 seasons is bad luck/injuries can easily derail any season. Good teams seem to strive to be just good enough to maybe make the playoffs year after year. If you make the playoffs enough times then eventually you will get lucky. Even the Bengals made an SB that way. They lost, but at least they made it to the game. As a Raider fan, I would like to claim that the Jamarcus Russell deal was just as bad. Finally, someone made a video on the Deshaun Watson trade not panning out for the Browns... lol. Not a Browns fan but there are only three years left on his contract. Browns did jump the gun with paying him but Deshaun is gonna work out. Man did well against Cincy and Tennessee and even managed to beat Baltimore in their own house while playing with a broken shoulder and sprained ankle. Who cares about the accusations? He'd be in jail by now but seeing as he's not, you do math. It's been difficult for him between suspension and injuries but not much to do but to wait for him come back strong next season and leave things up to DTR
