I am going to keep it 100 with you guys, the sentiments are mostly negative. People wouldn't utter those sentiments publicly in front of a camera, but behind the scenes I have never heard positive sentiments about Nigerians, especially in Townships which is where the vast majority of people in this country live. Daisy (The lady with the Balloons) was the most honest in uttering the general sentiment, she was saying things that people speak about behind the scenes.

The average Black SA will label an African immigrant to SA who is a heart surgeon-an immigrant (of course that label conveys a negative connotation), whilst the same Black SA will call a Polish who speaks no word of English, uneducated and scrambling for a menial job- an expatriate and that is just one out of a million examples I can cite of how Black SAs were ferociously damaged by events between 1948 and 1994.

The third guy is probably Nigerian. Anyway, it is not that we don't like them, we just don't like a lot of the things they do and as you can you tell by the people who answered, they've really painted a bad image of themselves and their country.
What annoys me is that it is not only in South Africa that they are doing this but everywhere they go and that also paints a bad image of the whole continent. We would not be so pressed if the good ones would at least acknowledge and call out their own on their wrong doings instead of accusing us of jealousy and lazyness, not forgetting their favorite word, xenophobic. This leads us to being defensive because it seems like they do not care about the damage they are causing.

Our everyday life experiences with foreigners has changed dramatically and negatively so, we have a history of foreigners coming to South Africa who contributed positively to the country Portuguese, Italian, Mozambicans, Malawians, Lesotho, Swaziland, in industries such as mining, construction, telecommunications.
Our country was built by both local and foreign labour force, but since ANC was in power they have turned a blind eye on immigration policies and demographic transition policies in favour of ultra liberal policies that are rootedin corrutp relationships with other African countries, hence there such a negative impact on our socio economic landscape, the fact that a few South Africans are married to Nigerian men does not change the narrative, South Africans are not as aloof as many think they are, Nigeria has big cultural issues such as Shakara everyone has to make so much money to entertain the entire village so they can be seen as an ideal husband material, over the years it has become so bad to a point that everything is centered around money, making life nearly impossible for an average guy to live a decent life.
As Africans we should not fool ourselves in an imaginary PAN Africanism without proper socio cultural issues being sorted, we are not just warm bodies, we have cultures to be proud of and thats what makes us different and unique, this notion that we must unite without paying attention to our cultural differences is a recipe for disaster, it will saw hatred and have the opposite effect of what was initially a good initiative,

The biggest problem with some of these South Africa is that they lost their mental bearing due to the devastating impact on their daily lives of years of subjugation to apartheid system of government. I refer to some because in honesty, si many South Africans are good people and cannot find themselves speaking despicable about nigerians in this awful manner. It is not surprising by any means that some of them who talk down on Nigeria are illiterates and unemployed and still do not and cannot fanthom how to extricate themselves from the precariously hopeless situation they are in. More so, they have not even for once travelled to other African countries to experience other cultures and business traditions. Nigerians came to South Africa not to seek employment but to set up businesses and this not only astonished some these South Africans who for God sake depend wholly on their government providing all their needs. That is laziness, lack of focus and inability to think quick out of the box. There is a parable in Nogeria which says "when I am far more intelligent and smarter than you, you will say I am a trickstar" but the reality is that I am smarter and more intelligent than you so whatever Nigerians do baffles and confuses their imagination and they conclude further that Nigerians are indecent. At a period which stigma is yet be erased when it was rumoured that South African girls are all HIV carriers because of the level of prostitution in the country. But Nigerians refused to believe and accept such nonsense because it is sad to simply hold opinion of people when you have not interacted with them. This is to counsel some of these South Africans who describe Nigerians negatively to visit Nigeria, live or work before reaching their conclusion.
