I never seen a leopard in the wild yet I have seen a cougar in the mountains, it was doing its own thing and passed in front of me at about 3 yards distance and didn't bother with me at all. I was following it's usual preys alongside of the river. It didn't scare me at all knowing humans are not on its menu.🦁
This may look funny but this can have seriously dangerous consequences for that poor animal. It should not interact with humans like that for its own sake and I’m disappointed the guides let this happen.
This isn't a zoo. It's a national park. These animals have thousands of acres of land to themselves. Interacting with humans like this will do little. The guides do not shoot animals here just because people decide to be stupid. After all, the land here is incredibly vast. The people who've been mauled pretty much died on Safari. Unfortunately, far too many people outside of these countries don't know how to interact with animals so they think the lion king or cartoons are some representation. The average Kenyan isn't stupid enough to think a hippo or leopard is cute. The guides tell people multiple times not to do things yet you'd be surprised how many idiots still disregard the advice. Also, as a Kenyan, the animals have always co-existed with humans. The pastorialist/nomadic tribes have after all, always migrated around the land before safaris and tourism resulted in the areas being fenced. Still though, a few tribes live on the Mara. Heck, historically, some hunted lions as coming of age test.
