Ive used one of these since 2007? I have 4 of them now as I cant imagine me not using one for my live shows. The first one is still working andI travelled with it up until Nov of 2019 and then COVID hit the next year. A couple of the controller knobs on it ar slightly damaged but still function. Over all its still the best at what it does. Its NOT a plug in and play device like a stomp pedal but it will do almost everything. I use to carry multiple guitars when i flew now I only take a Traveller Escape MKII with a GK puckup on it and the VG-99. That combination does it all. Acoustic sounds and all electric guitars, 6 and 12 string, alternate tunings at the touch of a button....basically 20+ guitars and amp setups all in a unit that will slip into a carry on bag. The GP-10 is a stripped down version of this if you dont need all the functionality the 99 provides. Havent seen anything that will do what the 99 will. The SY-1000 is something I havent fiddled with et but Ive read some of the drawbacks of that unit and Im sticking with the 99. Your mileage may vary.
I agree, I didn't quite "get it" until I delved a little deeper into the product. I did when i realized its any guitar you fancy , through any amp, with any Fx you want in any tuning !!! Now thats starting to sound cool.. All in real time, no latency at all. Wicked.
@529ark The board is a Roland FC300, which adds controls to make it easy to change patches as well as two programmable foot pedals. Sells for about $400US and up.
@s0c7 I bought one and it still amazes me me what I can do. I already love it and I haven't even scraped the surface of its capabilities. It's also got that excellent 24bit 'soundcard' built in...the thing is a pro tool. Too pro for me!
@smartsharpkiller It's a Brian Moore.....a lot of the models come with Synth Access.....Godin also do and are possible cheaper and just as good quality.
Nice! All those fonctions are pretty amazing! If you want to listen to real impressive sounds for the VG, just test the Dominik Hardy's videos about the VG99 on CZcams, great sound and playing... Victor
Update: I've owned the thing 8 months and I'm still coming across things I didn't know it could do. They also made it TOO versatile. Also, all of the factory presets are really a bad representation of how good it can sound.
I'm interested purely for the alternate tuning function, I'm sick of needing a different guitar for every !@#$ song! Can anyone tell me how/if the sound quality changes as you tune farther out digitally? Also, would a floyd rose trem still function normally? Also also, can I fit a GK under 6 strings of a 7 string? Thanks!
Which guitar are you using ? plus I dont see a gk3 pickup cause I have the gr 20 processor and the gk3 sucks at mapping while your guitar is doing it like a pro .....plus does it take input directly from a guitar?
if you want this more cheaply here's my advice: get the berhinger midi foot controller, guitar rig 4 and ableton. with these programs you could basically do anything the VG can do with the exception of gutiar moddeling. You could get a Variax maybe for this if you really want to do this. This way you'll save a lot of money and you'll also have more of a studio set up when you are done =)
the part at 8:28 is BAD ASS! now I want one of these.. Hell, just for the alt tunings which seem to be light years beyond a variax... hell, I could sell my whammy pedal too. :)
@NevadaMusicUK Exactly! At about £1000 for the kit it sounds expensive, but imagine the cost of the Les Paul, Strat, Tele, Synths, Rickys, Vox Amps, Marshall Amps....when you tot up the cost of the kit it replaces, it's a bargain. I love mine.
As a VG99 owner I'd say this is a great overview. The only downside is hearing a bunch of crazy guys frantically tapping away in the background on the Vdrums with sticks. It's comical. All you hear is "thumpathumpatappitytappitythumpa". Crazy. You figure they could have done this video asking the crazy monkeys to desist for a minute or two so he can do the demo.
between this and the new robot les paul you damn near dont need to know how to play. lol.... what happen to the good old days and where the guitarist got 12 guitars on a big rack.. different one for every song... though i gotta say this is quite the contraption lil over board but still awesome as f*ck
Obviously you have never played one ! The VG-99 is NO gimmick.. I know - I have one. AND I also have a GT10. It doesn't even come close to what the VG99 can do...

That was a very good demonstration! Excellent guitarist! Respect.
CAN'T WAIT TO GET THIS ....
Beste demonstratie ooit !!! Vooral de uitleg over B-bender mogelijkheid .

THIS IS THE COOLEST DEMO I'VE EVER SEEN
I would love to have this bad boy, but until I can ever hope to afford it-I'll be just fine with the Gt-10 coming via UPS on monday!

I think you are veary talented alex. congratulations...
THATS AMAZING
@smartsharpkiller No worries. Godin LGXSA is a great guitar and so is the Freeway Classic SA.
Nice! All those fonctions are pretty amazing! If you want to listen to real impressive sounds for the VG, just test the Dominik Hardy's videos about the VG99 on CZcams, great sound and playing...
Victor
Man Alex you never show step by step program on the nylon guitar sound ?? I try but no I never get it that sound I love that you program it in VG99
Awesome.
5:03 Partyboys in the house!!!!
@gram440a I was running it on a floyd equipped guitar for over a year with no issues. The pitch transposer is eventide quality, extremely smooth.
WOOOW I want one!!!!
@brandon9271 A Variax can do that too with the PODs that support it. A Variax with the Workbench and a POD can make you have some good fun.
Very cool...
mad skills!
Pretty cool dude !!!!!!

@simonthedragon thnx appreciate ur help
wow i have to have that vg99!!
I HAVE ONE!! AND IS AMAZING!
YAY starlight in the background at 8:25 :]
Alex it have to be more that you do to get that nice sound is it the gobel EQ?
That laser beam had my eye out
I love my vg 99...

@ibanez1200DK Do u know which guitar this dude is using? plus what do u mean when u say that it can be used without gk3?
what is the board he is using by his feet to control the roland vg99
if you want this more cheaply here's my advice:
get the berhinger midi foot controller, guitar rig 4 and ableton. with these programs you could basically do anything the VG can do with the exception of gutiar moddeling. those runs at 9:30 are wicked cool
Can this work for piezo equiped 7 or 8 strings or just 6 strings?
sick..
CZcams: not normally known for quality sound.
VERY NİCE GREAT
what guitar is that and was it modded to work with the gr 20 and vg 99 or was it designed by the company the way it is
the part at 8:28 is BAD ASS! now I want one of these.. Hell, just for the alt tunings which seem to be light years beyond a variax... hell, I could sell my whammy pedal too. :)
...im in love
This is not a dating site
is this exspensive?
It was one of the coolest things ive seen!

what is it you run it through
The pitch-shifting features are real neat - and the amp modeling sounds great. Now if only they could bring that price-tag down...
They did... welcome to 2022!
1 question this or the gr 20
that guy sure can play guitar!
does this need a midi pickup
i was thinking the same thing
please 🙏 show me every thing EQ the gobel system
i love the unseen kid bashing, well, unabashedly on a roland v-kit. Stick clicks and all. True music store experience.
I'm guessing this is better than Guitar Rig 4?
Yeah, but can you make it sound like a gazoo?
i want that effect in a pedal @ 8:29
@Fear3001 gt-10
i know Alex could just show us deeper because wow he get clean sound why we can’t
Built in theramin...cool.
why is it so expensive? I don't think its sound quality justifies that price tag
I own this and run it through 2 QSC K8s and a K181 Sub and uhmm......Ya can't touch dis(Hammertime!)
08:23 Starlight by Muse
@SEETHROUGHCOLOUR fc-200
@davidlanham99 KA-zoo.
the nylon don’t even sound like that for i try
fuck ... this is the best fucking shit that i ever saw :O
@g4vv Because you don't see that after making videos he's back cleaning the bathroom hahaha :D Just a joke...
@WhatSayestThou i do that just to drive you gazoo people crazy.
when is buckethead gonna write a song like 08:31?? :(
You have a beutiful mustache and lovely eyes

lol techno at 5:00
Guitarists want to see pedal boards. I sold my vg99 dirt cheap.
Lol!!!!
Absoloute fekking guitar god...
between this and the new robot les paul you damn near dont need to know how to play. lol.... what happen to the good old days and where the guitarist got 12 guitars on a big rack.. different one for every song...
though i gotta say this is quite the contraption lil over board but still awesome as f*ck
its cool.. but everything sounds so over processed and digital
Good toy. But totally flat sound..... Where is the body of the sound?
That doesn't make any sense. If you can afford a Roland VG99, I'd assume you could afford a B string bender...
processors are future shit sound
Obviously you have never played one ! The VG-99 is NO gimmick.. I know - I have one. AND I also have a GT10. It doesn't even come close to what the VG99 can do...
You're joking right? If not its time to get your hearing checked.
