Yeah my 1221's really rock. I was an Ibanez endorser at the time and totally dig my RGs too!! But alas, if I was on a desert island and could only have one guitar I might have to go for my blue 1221!

Great demo man! Such a shame it's now out of production. The most comprehensive and versatile single box guitar system ever made but sadly most people never "got" it. Couldn't be without mine now. Great to see a VG99 being used in anger and the crowd loving it :-)

I use my VG-99 almost every day. I think the Fractal Axe-FX may be the closest... but the VG with a GK pickup does guitar models different tunings etc. The Axe-FX does not do that! Ebay is where VGs live now.

Paul Hanson So what are the chances of getting hold of that "Ed" patch you've got? :-)

Hey Paul.... do you have a pickup suggestion for this? OR do you have to use the gk-3? I use both passive (seymour d) and active (EMG 81)... BTW one of the best demo's I have seen....All the greats right there!! The tone was bang on. I am looking to get away from LINE6 and join the men's club. Thanks for all you do sir.

Project Paranormal The pickups on your guitar are totally irrelevant. It’s the GK3 that sends the data to the VG-99.
The guitar I use has no pickups at all. It wasn’t even routed for pickups. It just has a bridge and GK3.

Hey Paul, I had one years back, then got away from it for some reason and went with Line 6, now I'm back looking at it again on this video. I can't help from saying, at least from this computer vantage point, some of the tones you have are just superior. Did Roland do any upgrading over time with the VG99 as far as adding new amp models, refinements, etc?

That was 10 years ago. Is there an Update to that kind of pedal? It coould be so much better if they improved the heavy distortions and overdrives, I think they could do that with todays technology.

Lot of string noises IMHO... was it recorded at such low volume?

Not sure what you mean string noises. I am pretty good at string dampening. It was medium volume on stage, and through a respectable Sound System in the Carpenters Center in Long Beach CA. A few days before a NAMM show, maybe 2500 school age kids there.

Paul Hanson I mean I hear your picking all the time... the hitting of the pick on the strings

On this video the VG-99 was loud. As I recall I was playing for over a thousand people and the stage monitors were at a decent volume. When I accidentally had some extra noise, it was my fault. The VG-99's amp models act just like a real amp, you know that first guitar sound when Randy Rhodes turns his volume up at the beginning of Crazy Train studio version? About 16 seconds in as the guitar starts? The VG will do the same noises.
