- Throughout the early 2000s the Fight Night series was the gold standard of boxing games. Very few franchises managed to so satisfyingly translate the sweet science to the virtual space. The Black Hokage and Xplay producer Joe Jurado join forces not just to talk about Fight Night, but also throw hands in the rematch of the century.
Fight Night Champion is a boxing video game developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts. It is the fifth and last entry in the Fight Night series and was released in March 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Most definitely... Also, you guys should do a video about the game Darkwatch. That was one of the most underrated shooters of the OG xbox era. Only got one game then High Moon Studios started spitting out licensed games and the sequel that was being worked on never saw the light of day

The war at G4... genius. Btw, Monzon was a prolific middleweight world champion from Argentina in the 60s/70s. He actually won a Sugar Ray Robinson memorial award in the 70s. He was a legendary fighter (consider you see him in a 2011 videogame decades after his death). He was also a very colorful character here in Argentina as he was a true rags-to-riches story, a kid from the slums that ended up conquering the boxing world, became a media personality, married several superstar babes back in the day, starred in movies, went to the slammer for klling an ex-wife and ended up dying from a car crash in the most metal way possible. Truly a fascinating life.
As an aside though, he was a really nimble middleweight, he had a ton of hitting power yes, but he look way too hulked out here.
Love the chemistry between these 3. Joe, TBH, and Jake make every video they’re in better. I’d love to see an NBA Street franchise breakdown video with these 3

Fight Night 3 & 4 we’re peak boxing sim in MP, with the edge going to 4 IMO. Champion was fun and had a good story, but was stripped back in terms of complexity and control.
Jake's color commentary is so amusing, as if TBH and Joe have their mutual trashtalk down to an art form. Just downloaded Fight Night Champion to play through again. Great game.
I worked on Fight Night Round 2 and Round 3, and it's criminal that EA shelved this franchise after Champion. We had something special going.

Man my time with Fight Night Round 3 career is one of the best gaming moments I have. Going slow through the ranks and becoming champion. This is one of my favorite game series and was sad when they never continued.
I would love to see any kind of return of the Fight Night series, even a modern rerelease of Champion could be a good way to introduce the series to a new generation of players

Fight Night Champion, even with its simplified blocking and counter mechanics, is one of the most satisfying gaming experiences evwr with that story mode and the velocity of your handspeed once you got your rhythm going.
This is a good video. One thing i will say ESBC exposed EA by getting so many boxers on an upstart budget vs EA who has all the money to pay these fighters. I'm glad yall covered this.

I feel the same way about this series as well. UFC doesn't fill the void of Fight Night. Even when they added FN's bob and weave mechanic to UFC, it still didn't make me steer away from it. The traditional style of boxing, no kicking, no grappling, no ground & pound, just standing your ground and throwing hands is unmatched.
I've never played fight night but you two do a good job explaining its appeal.

Fight Night was one my favorite most played games growing up from teen to early adulthood. Especially Round 2, because those haymakers were brutal. Hell, I mastered it so well that I could throw haymakers like combos. 😄 I really hope ESBC can carry the torch from Fight Night Champion.

Fight Night Round 3 is what really set it off for me.
EA Sports's history with boxing goes back further than "Knockout Kings" with "Foes of Ali" for the 3DO in 1994 and "Toughman Contest" for the Genesis and 32X in 1995

It might be hard for me to go back to these fighting games after playing Thrill of the Fight in VR. Highly recommended to any boxing video game fans if you have the opportunity to try it

FN Round 3 was a staple in my freshmen dorm common room. We ran button-only and thumbstick-only tournaments. Such a great game to play with a friend for 15 minutes or tournament-style with multiple friends for 4 hours. Like y'all said: easy to pick up and difficult to master and that made it so appealing and fun to play.

Please cover the very short rise and fall of Supreme Commander. It's a short lived series but has a pedigree in the Total Annihilation original game and a legacy in the Forged Alliance Forever community.

I know nothing about boxing games since the last one I played was way back on the genesis, but if licensing real boxers really is an obstacle, maybe a licensed Hajime no Ippo game?
It’s got the story mode built in as maybe the greatest sports manga ever and DBfighterz has shown how good anime games can look. (Also, didn’t they make a Creed game?)

I'm looking forward to Esports Boxing Club. I enjoyed Fight Night for years, but I'm looking forward to a more realistic boxing game. EA doesn't deserve support from the community because they abandoned the boxing community
