  • Demo of a Harley Benton DC Jr. with both the stock Roswell pickup shimmed up 3mm and a Lollar High Wind Bridge (tall) pickup shimmed up 1.4mm. Played though a Milkman Pedal Steel Mini amp. Gain pedals are a Mad Professor Supreme Overdrive and a Mythos Golden Fleece Fuzz/Overdrive. I also modded the guitar with a MojoAxe solid "Lightning Bar" stopbar tailpiece.

I am fortunate enough to have inherited this exact guitar from Steve's family after his passing. It's a beautiful guitar and the tone is unreal. I'm grateful to have it and hope to keep it in my family for years to come.

That's darned good. Here's a message to you younger guys from a guy who has been playing guitar for over 40 years. Consider yourself extremely lucky to have these amazing guitars at such a low price. Don't think for a second that you're not getting the deal of the century cuz you literally are LOL back in the 70s when you bought a cheap guitar it was so bad it made you want to quit the guitar in the first place.
    UPDATE Dec 2022
I bought one of these based on Steve's video and many other videos and reviews. It's a fantastic guitar. Very inexpensive but it looks great, it plays solid and it sounds very nice. I will be taking Steve's advice on the bridge replacement but for now I actually really like the stock Roswell pup. Thanks for the great video Steve. And thanks to HB for offering great guitars at reasonable prices. Long live rock guitar!

Man you know it. 1976 1st guitar was a Encore Les Paul copy. $178. Horrible. Neck angle was boofed. Would not keep tune and I didn't know what to do back then to fix it. When I joined Navy I had a party with friends over. We drove a huge roofing nail through the center of each pickup and they sounded better. Kept the thing for years after and slowly worked on it but it was still garbage. Now for $177 you can get this thing and used PRS SE guitars, Sires, etc that blow what we had out of the water. Also bought one of these just before I watched this. Arrives in 4 days :) Best Regards and Best Wishes!

I've been playing guitar since about 98' and bass since 94' and you are 100% correct about finding such good quality NEW guitar's this cheap. Us older guy now get to reap those benefits as well 👍

The price of those shims is relatively high for what they are, I may 3D print some and sell on Ebay if it proves to be a financially viable enterprise,
I have a few HB guitars now and have found an EQ pedal to be a good alternative to changing out the pickups

I keep seeing this sweet sounding demos and now I want one, my son and I bought two Greco Guitar's (LP & SG) and we were kinda like "we're not going back to budget guitars" but we don't have a P90 or double cut and Gibsons are really worth their price, also the shape of the HB is pretty spot on and the headstock isn't bad and for me a headstock is the make or break point many times. Thanks for the quality sound demo

Cool vid, and nice playing and tones. I am going to be looking at one of these babies pretty soon. I don't have anything quite like this in my collection. Good stuff, and I LOVE Harley Benton guitars. I've got 4 or 5 of them - and I love them for the most part. Been very happy with them.

The new DC's come with a stacked p90 but that then isn't a p90 if you ask me... it's a kind of p90 with a kind of humbucker.
The Lollar is rad.. worth every cent.

Hello Steve!! Great video and thank you for the information . I have the same guitar and put the same pickup. Change the wirings for a 50's wiring too. Sounds killer !! I'd replaced the bridge for a Wilkinson bridge, but I'm not very happy with it. I'd like get that Mojoaxe lighting bar, but I would like to know if it fits the measurements of this guitar. Possibly will change the nut too for a bone nut. Thank you very much!!!

Bridge and nut should _always_ be changed on this guitar (the nut is of exceptionally poor quality). I honestly don't understand why you would need shims when the pole pieces can be adjusted! I have the FAT version, with the Roswell stacked P90, which is pretty decent.
