The Thing, Escape From New York, and Big Trouble are all in my top ten movies. Absolutely tremendous films. The ending of The Thing is my all-time favorite. It let your imagination run wild, and that to me, is far better than knowing. Thank you Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Russell and everyone involved for years and years of absolute joy.

this is such a legendary movie. The blob was too, so was alien and aliens. so many great films back in the 80s/90s i wished we could get films like this again
People say Xenomorphs are most terrifying aliens in horror flicks but for me nothing compares to the Thing. Cellular parasite quietly taking over body and assimilate other beings and each cell can act as anything it absorbed before from nerve to muscle, yeah. Kurt Russell was a charismatic character, and others were very memorable too.
Universal shouldn't have tried a cinematic universe with The Mummy and Dracula and such again. It should have one with Alien, Predator, and the Engineers... and once things fall into place, The Thing enters the storyline and wreaks havoc on everything.
My favorite character is the wiggling icicle in the ice-block room at the Norwegian outpost. At the end of this video, Carpenter says he wouldn't change a frame of it... but I have to wonder about that little error.
This film scared me so badly that I actually started rethinking life in space, my own fault for watching it at 11pm at night with the lights off at the age of 16 i think. Definitely during my college years

My Mom took me to see this when they had Midnight movies and this was top #5 of all time.. absolute masterpiece. Come on John and Kurt Snake Plisskin 3: Escape from Mars. Do it!!!
