So a lion being a lion is putting the lion in danger because of us. 🤦♀️ Humans best at making messes not so great fixing them
I seen a video they hunt and eat them out their on the west coast thats insane to me such a beautiful animal with that Iconic Growl its sad
I’ve seen the Florida panther being in such trouble now

I have been 15 feet from 7 HUGE bighorns...several times. I always photograph them.
Two of Natures Noble animals each with their own value and importance.Two many lions in one area, they can be hunted with dogs or trapped and moved to other areas. Agree with one of the comments below about the no. of Big Horns that die with disease, might not be able to do much about that.

can't hunt mountains with dogs in my state. and it's not recommended to relocate cats. they are very territorial and it can throw off the balance of other areas.
My question is , is there a hunting season on the Bighorns ? Because if there is ,, close it , the lions are only hunting to survive , not after trophies .
We need to be allowed to hunt mountain lion in California. I guess you are completely ignorant about the professional field and science of wildlife management.
And what if hunting tags are largely the only way these projects to save the sheep get funded?
We have got to save our wildlife!! If we fail we will fall too!! Why would you do away with the lion? That's not right either!! Why can't you relocate these beautiful animals? Something is not right here!! If you can't save it too then WTH? We better be worried about all of our wildlife. I understand saving the big horn but it should not be at the cost of the mountain Lion!!
Mountain lions are of the Felidae family. They are CATS. They breed like cats. They overpopulate easily. It takes territory with food (other wildlife) to sustain a lion. There is not enough territory sustain the population of the lions in a healthy manner.
DISEASES ARE KILLING THEM BUT THEY WANT TO GO AFTER THE MOUNTAIN LIONS?. WHY NOT TRY AND HELP WITH THE DISEASES.
Why don’t you spend several months researching why instead of believing you are a professional wildlife manager based purely on your emotions. The professional wildlife pictures of lions are majestic. A phots of the mountain lion shows a beautiful creature but his instincts do not show. Learn some stuff. It won’t hurt you.
Disease was brought over from domestic sheep from livestock. That combined with a lack of hunting regulations led to their decline.

@@captainamericaamerica8090 technically cougar, puma, and mountain lion are all correct terms for this big cat. Calling it a panther would be inaccurate as its closer related to the Felidae subfamily rather than Pantherinae, meaning it is a feline rather than a panther but the other three are correct :) maybe he thought people would be able to understand that he's not talking about African lions as that's not what's in the documentary.

@Gabrielle, actually, "puma" is the most correct name for this cat, "cougar" only refers to the american puma (Puma concolor cougar) and "mountain lion" is a misleadingly incorrect name as pumas look almost nothing like lions and are not closely related to them either, the one and only true lion is the species Panthera leo, which is found only in both Africa and Asia, interestingly, it is also misleadingly incorrect to call a bison a buffalo because buffalo live only in both Africa and Asia, bison are a genus of true cattle, which refers to the Bovina subtribe, where the true closest living relative of the bison (genus Bison) is the Yak (Poephagus grunniens), while buffalo are an entirely distinct subtribe (Bubalina) from true cattle (subtribe Bovina), it is even misleadingly incorrect to call a pronghorn an antelope because antelope also live only in both Africa and Asia, the word "antelope" refers only to the taxa Tetracerus, Tragelaphini, Hippotraginae, Peleinae, Reduncinae, Antilopinae, Cephalophinae, and Neotraginae of the family Bovidae, meaning antelope are a wastebasket taxon classified under the Bovidae family, while the pronghorn is the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae, which is surprisingly belongs to an ancient superfamily of pecorans known as Giraffoidea, meaning pronghorns are more closely related to giraffids than they are to bovids.
@• 👻Spooky Charlie👽•, "mountain lion" is not really a good name for this cat because it almost looks nothing like a lion and is not closely related to it either, "puma" is the most official name for this cat, there are two subspecies of puma (Puma concolor), the north american puma (Puma concolor couguar) and the south american puma (Puma concolor concolor).
Sadly both those mountain lion cubs died! Khia and Kali

yea. That's the reason alot of hunting dogs get their tails docked and I was really surprised to see these dogs with full tails.
They get excited and wag their tail hard against bushes and rocks and other stuff and it can get injured. Cuts, scrapes and even broken bones. Severe cases are called 'happy tail' and can lead to the tail being amputated because it's very difficult to heal. Every time a dog wags it's tail it can pull stitches or mess up the alignment of the bones before it can heal.

But to move the lions might cause problems to other problems.

But if they kill all the prey off they *harm* their population and driving them to extinction by starvation or maybe eating things that might/shouldn’t be eaten.
Yes, diseases are killing them but to solve them we need to find a cure which costs money. And maybe the diseases aren’t even curable and might be out of any control of beings.
As humans, we are very limited to power we can only do much but yes, we should worry about our wildlife but problems need solutions and some problems have to be solved on their own.

Can bighorn sheep be found in Missouri? I ask because I'm writing a book that takes place in the Mark Twain Forest, one of the main characters is a mountain lion queen, so I'm trying to collect as much information as I can so that it's more accurate.

A “family group” of mountain lions is a pack. They travel in packs until 2-3 years old.
A wast of TV time on pumas,,, there's not that many cats that will kill off the sheep!!!

This kind of human-centric narration is so unacceptable. Liek this guy so arrogantly talking about how him and mountain lions are are "soul-mates" yet if it hunted a species in it's natural environment he is gonna kill it just for doing what it does? Mountain lions are also endangered and at risk all over turtle island. There is no talk or relocation in this documentary when that is the hugest risk to mountain lions across this continent, genetic bottle necking. I get their project but this guy is really making it look bad. Come on national geographic you are a world standard and apparently your standards are slipping.

I live in the high desert of a different state. I have a resident cougar, tons of coyotes, and more deer than you can imagine. They are so prolific, that I refer to them as Zombi deer.
Come and get them!!!
But, leave the coyotes. Nothing's more relaxing than falling asleep to coyote calls.🥱

He is trying to say that if you let a large majority of mountain lions continue to predate on a low population of rams for too long they will deplete that food resource and then mountain lions will drop in abundance as well.
