    Hi my lovely, rayon de soleil de mes vendredis, délice de mes oreilles, ma rose d'Angleterre, 🌹😊
    Thank you Katherine for this lovely, multi-faceted evocation of 'British Spring'. I've been looking forward to it! I loved the floral part and thank you for the pretty flower names. Can we also say that the blooms 'burst out', 'break out', sprout or germinate?... This year I noticed a very early explosion of daffodils for they came out as early as from the beginning of February I think, thanks to a very mild winter we had at that period. I loved 'dawn chorus' and 'at the break of dawn'!
    The adjective 'pastoral' (characterized by, or depicting rural life, scenery, etc.) was well chosen and in fact you didn't have to hesitate on its pronunciation; you used and pronounced it very well indeed. ;-) I would see 'country style', 'rural' or even better 'bucolic' as synonyms (I can see adjectives like 'pastoral' too, 'champêtre' or 'bucolique' in French).
    Enid Blyton also reminds me of childhood reading. she had indeed a worldwide success with her 'books for youth' and in France too! I don't think I ever read 'The Enchanted Forest' and those you presented, but I do remember 'Oui Oui', 'Le Club des 5' and 'Le Club ses 7' (respectively 'Noddy', 'The famous five' and 'The secret seven' ;-) that I read in French.That was before I became a (early) teenager, around 11 yo I'd say, and stumbled across the 'plein Vent' collection of absolutely wonderful books by authors of all nationalities, and I think I borrowed all the books of that collection in the school library at the time; I recall I literally devoured them, especially the ones with a lot to do with nature and animals. Having acquired a taste for reading thanks to these books, I then moved on to more classic works such as 'La gloire de mon père', 'Le chateau de ma mère' or 'Le temps des secrets' by Marcel Pagnol where he relates his childhood and adolescence in his dear Provence. Wonderful !
    I completely understand when you say 'Without Enid Blyton, I wouldn't be here' and no, it's not a 'silly' thing to say, because I think we're all marked by those beautiful childhood books: I think that despite my scientific studies, I've always been more literary deep down and fundamentally, and I probably owe that to all those books from childhood and adolescence. :-)
    Then, I regret that we don't have a day here equivalent to 'Shakespeare Day' in England, such as 'La Fontaine' or 'Molière' Day, even though we have 'World Book and Authors Day', which , and though probably not having the same resonance, also happens to be on April 23! I'd love to visit the famous 'Stratford upon Avon' as well as Cornwall or the Coastwolds.
    I noted with interest the term 'conjure'. At first I thought it was what we call 'a false friend' because in French the verb 'conjurer' has more the sense of 'Call upon supposed supernatural forces by spells and incantations/ to appeal earnestly or strongly to' and less 'present to the mind; evoke or imagine' even if I now realise that yes, it can indeed be used in that way.
    Finally, I loved your enthusiasm and delight at seeing the days getting longer. It's even more noticeable here because, as you know, we've stayed on Berlin time here after WW2 and are therefore one hour ahead of London time; which means we're actually 2 hours ahead of the sun in summer (instead of one in England), allowing us to have an even longer daylight duration. So currently, the sun sets an hour later than where you live, which is currently around 9:15pm (instead of 8:15pm) and at over 10:00pm (~10:06pm) at the summer solstice around the end of June. It will still be relatively clear until around 10:30 pm. :-)
    Pretty nails and pretty cups and dresses! I love your taste for the simple things that make up life's little pleasures, and you evoke this very beautifully, which also makes you very endearing! :-)
    This cake looks really good and yummy and what a lovely name 'Lemon drizzle cake'! Thanks for the recipe and the reading recommendations!
    Merci beaucoup ! Thank you so much Katherine pour cette très jolie video, I enjoyed it a lot and I'm eagerly looking forward to a second part. 🙏👏👏
    Bisous, have a lovely weekend and a sweet 'English spring time', Love 😘🌹❤❤

    So, it was nice to see you dear with this lesson after a week of absent.. 😮
    Btw, thanks a ton for this nice video on spring time and its activities and I really enjoyed watching and I was absolutely chuffed when you talked about cricket as we are a nation that madly in love with this great sport too and mind you, we gotta good cricketing side as well, and this game was established in the 18th century in here by the British., so, thank you heaps Britain for introducing this international sport to our country 🙏.. 😃🙏❤️ Guess that you know my country by now right and if you don't "it's Sri Lanka" 🤩
    So, thanks again, have a lovely evening and enjoy the good vibes of the weekend..

    ~~~ Moment of blue Velvet ~~~
    When barely a cloud, a flake of wool, swims
    In the blue velvet of heavenly fields
    When the gilt harvest, waveless and murmuring,
    Neath a scorching sun slumbers in a deep sleep.
    I listen to me live, and, free of worries,
    Far from powdery paths, I remain seated
    On mellow carpets of fresh moss and fern,
    At bushy woods' edges where the heat softens.
    There, to kill the time, I watch the ant's labour
    Who, anticipating the enemy winter,
    For her attic steals a wheat grain from the sheaf,
    The aphid that climbs and hangs on the leaf,
    The caterpillar dragging velvety coils,
    The drooling maggot with silvery furrows,
    The fresh butterfly that o'er blooms flutters;
    And then I observe, frivolous pleasure,
    The sunlight breaking through my eyelashes,
    Fine grid opposing to its subtle beams,
    The prism colors; or the fluff that floats
    In the air, on the wave of a pilotless boat;
    And when I'm weary I let myself doze,
    To water's murmur that a pebble makes moan,
    Or I listen to the song of the warbler,
    And the lark chirping aloft in the azure.
    I did read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ back when I was twenty (1979) but I should read ‘Emma’. I am not into romance but since I am going to write a second realistic romance novel, I will use a several romance novels as a baseline/source material. I read Alaska Nights: An Anthology (Midnight Sons), Alaska Home: A Romance Novel (Midnight Sons Book 3), The Playboy and the Widow, Changing Habits, Alaskan Holiday, and Merry and Bright. These books were written by Debbie Macomber. If you want to get a slice of modern romantic Americana to read in the springtime then I suggest these books to you women overseas.
    I will try to read more British literature as the days go by.
    Your inspirational discourse is always amazing apart from informative. It is really unbelievable that you haven’t read far from maddening crowds.
    I think 'far from the madding crowd' by thomas hardy is a good book.Spring is also a good season in India, there is a kind of freshness and vitality I find everywhere. 🙂
    Hi Katharine,
    Speaking of culture, I'm fascinated by the British culture, history, geography, royalty and, above all, values ;) I'm compelled to say that I would love to understand the British identity rather more deeply: what makes the British basically British. In that regard, and kindly asking, which authors would you say are worth reading?
    I truly enjoy watching your videos. Educational and humorous, we need that!
    All the best
    I'd rather going a walk especially in countryside or having a picnic instead of reading books in springtime 😊😊😊
