  • Bunker shots are supposed to be one of the easiest shots in golf, certainly according to the professionals.
    But how do you find them?
    I was with Darren a recent student of mine a couple of days ago and his thoughts echoed the thoughts of so many golfers who come to me struggling with this part of the game.
    "Danny it's ok for golf professionals, they play out of perfect sand every time, I have to deal with golf bunkers that are rock hard...I will often leave it in the bunker or blade the ball over the back of the green. Is there something I have to do differently?"
    The answer is yes.
    Firstly we need to make sure you have a sound bunker technique. I've got a super golf drill for that 😁
    Then you have to assess the sand and make some small adjustments to your bunker set up depending on how hard or how soft the sand is.
    I promise you it's not difficult once you know how.
    In todays golf video, I cover everything you need to know, bunker strike, distance control and even long bunker shots.
    Come and join me now and let me show you how to make bunker shots one of the easiest shots in golf.

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
    Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
    I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
    On CZcams and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
    Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
    I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

    I think the biggest problem for the average player is having the opportunity to practice bunker shots. For the most part, we NEVER get to practice them. I don't have a single driving range anywhere near me that has a practice bunker. Also, 99% of public courses I play don't have a practice area with a bunker. This is the biggest challenge for many players, I believe. Is there a way to practice these shots from grass, employing similar techniques?

    • @DylanJamesGolf
      @DylanJamesGolf Před rokem +7

      Practice at the course. You don’t need to hit a million shots but drop 3 and hit them. Bunker shots are annoying but they’re nearly inevitable. My best practice I ever had was bringing my sand wedge to the beach and hitting shots there. But basically if you can hit a flop shot without skulling it, use that same principle out of the sand but a little steeper and an inch before the ball.

    • @leemzgoogle917
      @leemzgoogle917 Před rokem +6

      @@DylanJamesGolf Most courses I play are pretty busy. If the group behind me saw me dropping 3 balls into the bunker for practice I probably wouldn't make it out of the parking lot alive. My bunker play improved dramatically the minute I lost my "fear" of the shot and started swinging more aggressively. I used to be very tentative and would either leave the ball in the bunker or skull it across the green. Now, I just aim an inch or two behind the ball and take a nearly full swing while never decelerating. It's been working great for me for the last two seasons.

    The stand on left foot a great drill, told to use similar for pitching and short game and for me to work with less hands and straight arm for pitches.
    As a start for pitching ball in middle of stance, open to direction of play allows body to turn and get through
    I use my60 deg for all bunkers except fairway ones eg those I need to get the ball up and out.
    Will try the one leg stance as an aid plus thinking follow through to match backswing and not to decelerate

    Brilliant video, Danny, thank you. I am watching this because I have had a couple of bunker lessons recently including one today. My tutor picked up on the fact that i don't turn very well in the bunker, and not enough follow through. What he didn't find, and that you have explained beautifully, is the trick with the tram lines to test where you are hitting the sand. I was clipping the top edge of the bunker on the way out today, so I am guessing not enough weight on the front foot, and clipping the sand behind the ball. Thanks for this, i will give it a go on Thursday.

    Hey Danny. This is the best bunker video I have seen. Not only because it sounds good but I put it into practise today and got out of both bunkers I hit, first shot, and ended much nearer the hole than I normally get. Best thing was I felt like I was in control of my shot. Cheers!

    Ok, so now you are becoming the Obi One Kenobi of golf! Talk about Psychic...I went out on Friday and 95% of my bunker shots were an epic fail! Wish I'd seen this first. 10/10 as always.

    Great video Danny, my local municipal course doesn’t have too much sand generally, so this will be a life saver, I always struggle with them

    Great thoughts, can't wait to try this out. Would you consider changing bounce angle for packed vs. soft bunkers ? Or better off keeping same bounce just adjust loft ? Thanks

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, would always choose a low bounce wedge when playing a course with hard sand
