I find the AF on my S5 to be good, but of course I donât Vlog like it seems 90% of people do according to CZcamsrs
Considering for the price of an A7Siii you can get 2 x S5 bodies, a 20-60, a 50mm f1.8 and have ÂŁ400 left over its incredible.
Exactly!! AF isnât everything and for the price, jheeeez itâs a massive jump to the Sony. Iâm already invested in the Sony but if I was nee to the full frame system iâd massively consider the Panasonic. Thanks for watching
And the whole vlogging thing is right, for CZcamsrs it may be important to some extent and to me it is, but itâs down to requirements of the user, nothing more. You donât have to vlog to be on CZcams, you just have to have a good time making content đđ»
I prefer to do noise reduction and sharpness in post when needed. The Sony has it baked in so you have less choices in post. To get something similar from Sony you have to move up to their much pricier cinema range with the FX6. I also prefer manual focus with a follow focus system.
Which do you prefer out of the two? It was a close one!
I checked the full specs from Panasonic, and the two standard (sensor shifting) IBIS options are "Image Stabilisation" (from the internal IBIS) and then Dual I.S. (with a compatible lens which also has stabilisation built-in). But then you also have "E-Stabilization (Video) / Boost I.S. (Video)" which are the two electronically-assisted stabilisation modes. So I think you might have not been using the standard mode, but instead the electronic one, which usually looks worse.
Great review man! You're a good sport. The Sony and Canons are great for a set it and forget it AF. I recently sold my a7sIII for the s5. I felt like the S5 was good enough for my needs. I watch a lot of Sam's videos. Keep up the great work! The e mount has so much more variety.
Thanks mate!! The S5 is definitely good enough for most needs. I really liked the camera and the the price itâs incredible.
Thanks for watching and stopping by, greatly appreciated
I'm debating right now between a 7 iv and S5
And what you finally came up with?
Brilliant video. Absolutely love it. Any chance that you may be able to comment or do a update on the Lumix S5II vs A7SIII or even the ZV-E1 especially on the image stabilisation. Thanks in advance
Iâll be honest, I probably wonât be able to get the ZV-E1 to try as iâm not that lucky đ plus I can 100% say I wonât be buying one.
I may be able to do the other option though. But iâll save you the wait⊠if you want a camera that just work, does the majority of stuff and is good on price⊠buy the S5ii.
I hated the S5, the AF was awful. But I recently got to try a friends S5ii and compared it to my a7Rv and if I was buying a camera for the first time and needed to buy the lenses too, iâm probably get the Lumix. Cheaper, budget friendly, does a lot more than the A7siii.
Why donât I have Lumix would be the next question⊠I love Sony, it works for me, I am invested in to the ecosystem and it allows me to make the content I need to.
Hope that helps!
12 MPX vs 24 MPX, in terms of print size (300 dpi) isn't THAT much different indeed, but you have to consider cropping/reframing before printing. 24 MPX wins hands down in this category. Still a very good side by side comparison, thanks for that!
Oh absolutely! More pixels the better for sure đđ» thanks for watching
which exactly manufacturer's lut did u use for lumix s5?
Great video ! Thanks
My pleasure!
Very nice, felt like cam A had nicer looking shadows and highlight, color looks pretty much the same
Glad you liked it!! They were certainly very close in certain shots in terms of colour. Both great cameras to use. Thanks for watching
Wasn't a fan of Lumix but its growing in me. I'm looking forward to get a new camera later this year and I'm really hesitant between Lumix S5 or Fuji XT4.
Itâs a tough one. Personally i think the lumix would be a better all rounder between the two but Fuji colours are just insanely nice. But itâs super 35âŠ.
Fuji XY4 is worst
As a Canon Glas user I got away with the S5 and 2 lenses (one being free add on early bird) for around 2100âŹ. I have the feeling, that future Lumix updates will even further improve the functionality, to keep up with the fantastic A7SIII. The S5 is a dream for my photographic side passion (dynamic range, ISO, live composition etc.).
It is an exceptional camera for sure! Thanks for watching
I use a lot of Canon lenses for my Lumix.
can I use the canon EF lenses and sony Gmaster to S5mark2
. did the lumix have enough quality native block's..?
Possibly, you obviously would need an adaptor. One for the Canon and one for the Sony lenses. However, how good they will work? No idea! Haven't ever tried to do this.
As for the second questions, native block's? I don't quite understand what you mean
i don't understand? I love the af of the s5. 1080p/ natural color profile/60fps/ -3/+3 in auto focus settings.. I have the a74 and its great but the s5 is like similar lol
Iâve been able to shoot the S5 up to iso 204800 with heavy NR in DaVinci with great results (ISOs higher than 51200 I have to shoot in CineD2) as long as I donât underexpose. Since I can turn off internal NR, the post NR does way better than the cameraâs processor and renders the shots usable and leaves shots 51200 and below in V-Log looking very nice.
I bet the A7SIII is a low light beast though although I really wish Sony would let us turn off NR in video to make the extreme ISOs less soft! Would definitely give up my A7RIV for it if I wasnât such a resolution nut for photos!
Thatâs nuts about the Lumix!!
And yeah I agree. For the resolution comment, have a look on my channel for a video from January about the a7siii. I literally did physical tests between that and the a7iii (didnât have an a7riv available) and maybe that will sway you. I use mine daily for photos, never had a problem. But itâs down to personal preference
Anyway! Thanks for watching mate
@@DannyBligh thanks for making the video. I enjoyed it!
Is NR not off when you record in RAW?
@@daniellrodriguezs2308 it is on the Sony but thatâs unfortunately the only way to record without NR, by having huge raw file sizes!
Hey man, what lense did you use for both cameras?
Off to top of my head, i think the a/b tests were done with an 85 f1.5. Just the cheapest 85mm that is from the manufacturers to make it as fair as we can.
Other sections, not 100% but iâm guessing some kind of 16-35 or 35mm prime. Been a while đ
With your example at 1:57, The S5 looked better in every shot. Its definitely a great buy for $1,499!
It absolutely is a great purchase! Thanks for watching Jay!
as far as photos the lumix S5 Af system has no problem .... i mean unless you want to shoot wildlife that i havent tried it... for wedding photography or events is amazing
That maybe so, it could have been the lenses that I were using for the tests but it did feel a little slow at times. Can't comment on wildlife as I didn't use it for that but good to hear your insight. Thanks Mike
@@DannyBligh just to be clear here AF for photos is great only with native Lumix glass and the Sigma 28-70 that i have tried :)
Did you buy that jumper in Cornwall? Got a colour checker so does that mean I will be a better CZcamsr đ I went for B due to the Sony Sharpness does that mean I prefer Sony ? Nahhhh gonna stick with my Canon as to be honest they are all as good as each other like you said it is down to personal prefference - 1000 subs here you come !
I did indeed đđ and yeah, 100%. Colour checked are the way to guarantee a diamond play button they reckon.
1000 subs? I hope so man!! Onwards and upwards, thanks for watching!!
Both great cameras they have very little between them in terms of the image. I would disagree with your findings on stabilisation. Over all types of realistic use cases Lumix will easily trump A7SIII just as easily as Sony beats the AF on Lumix. The price of Sony is what it is but the Lumix can be purchased for a lot less. In fact I bought mine brand new off Amazon UK for 950 pounds. I would love to move to Sony system from two reasons. Obviously to have solid Af when I need it (althou I mostly focus manually) and to get my hands on Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8đ
That is an absolute steal!! ÂŁ950?! Jheeeeeez.
The 35-150 is meant to be really nice, would love to try one myself. Thanks for watching!
You'd expect cameras now should be able to do a lot better with auto-focus but nope. like myself who uses autofocus I want to focus more with composition and settings and let the focusing do it's job hopefully. Again amazing reviews Danny!
It's definitely the one main let down of the Lumix. But still a great camera for everything else! I'd just need to shoot at f22 to make sure everything is in focus ;) Thanks for watching!
Panasonic needs to introduce TOF with their own manufactured camera sensors in their next range of cameras.
Could the softness of the Panasonic just be due to the lens, because, I believe you said the comparison was done using the cheapest 85mm f1.8 from the manufacturer. So couldn't the Sony 85mm f1.8 just be sharper than the pano 85mm f1.8? Cheers for the content
It could be don't to the lenses. But even with the 20mm it had the same result. There's so many factors and sharpness is sometimes down to the lens. It's such a tough call and so have to make it completely fair. The only true way of knowing would be to use an identical lens on both which you just can't physically do. But yeah, we tried it with the most basic native 85mm both Sony and Lumix had to offer. We could go the opposite end of the scale and get the most expensive but we did a similar thing with the Canon R5c and A7Siii, used the RF50 f1.2 for the Canon and the cheapest 50mm Sony has to offer (literally around ÂŁ2000 price difference) and Sony looked sharper... so in that situation the lens didn't matter. Who knows Colin!! HAHA! It's so hard with reviews and comparisons but we try to get them as fair as we possibly can but it'll never be 100%. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Danny, yeah it's definitely a hard one. I'd suggest going with something like a sigma 85mm on both. Different mounts but the optics should be the same. Of course there goes any comparison of autofocus with a third party lens. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
The Lumix has less sharpness baked in.
The difference is that Sony image is more processed when shot in Log. When shooting in Vlog Lumix doesn't sharpen or denoise the image at all as this would be destructive to the image. These are far better added in post as needed. The detail level should be slightly better on Lumix as the image is super sampled from a higher density sensor.
The softness is always there, it's part of its charecteristics. It's not necessarily bad, some cameras can be harsh. I returned the xt4 for this reason.
The weird thing is... I have seen a different comparison of these two, and Lumix S5 had more vibrant colors over the Sony :(
Really interesting video. Thank you. Still glad I switched from LUMIX to Sony though, despite the price differences. When you havenât got much time great autofocus is everything. And congrats for getting to 1k. Deserve loads more than that.
Thanks Steve! Yeah, I really like the Lumix, but when it came to video itâs just a little too slow for my liking. In fact I was filming last night with it again for another video and had to put it to MF as AF was too slow for me. Still rocking the Sony for now!
And thank you! I finally made it and itâs a cool milestone. Time to push on to the 10k mark now. Thanks for watching and thanks for the support
The S5 is the best budget full frame Hybrid cam these days. The A7 Siii is a film camera in a dslr body for twice the price.
Had the A7S III and now with the Lumix S5 mainly because wanted an upgrade in Megapixels for photos. Think I prefer the Sony for a different reason to most - S-Cinetone has more pleasing colours than Cinelike D2 (for someone who doesn't film much and wants something easy out of camera). Even with my photos I'm seeing a greenish kind of yellow tint to the Panasonic pictures. Compared to my Fuji it doesn't look great against some of their lovely picture profiles within Light Room. Have been wondering if anyone else has spotted these weird tones in the Lumix, using the kit 20-60 so shouldn't be a lens cast. Even with a decent knowledge of Curves I can never fully fix it.
Currently considering a switch back to the Sony or Canon. Also had 5D Mark II and colours and way more reddish than both. Maybe my eye is spoiled or it's personal preference but yeah can't see past the S5 green at the moment
From the tests that I did, I didn't notice anything too weird with the colours of the photos. The Lumix is definitely better for megapixels but for me at the moment it doesn't really matter too much.
Something I do with my A7siii is film in S-Log3 but use S-Cinetone as a colour mode! So you get the insane dynamic range but with more pleasing colours. I didn't do this in this video though purely due to the tests but I agree that S-Cinetone just looks great, got a video coming out shortly about profiles in the A7siii. Thanks for watching Paul!
well go check some footage with defferent lens, i use the sigma 28-70 and havent nioticed anything in lightroom...but i think you should check it...there are many sources to find sample footage online
Never noticed anything weird in the colors on my Lumix.
I'm constantly bothered by the yellow-greenish tint with the S5, im fighting it in post but i never quite get there. It doesn't matter if it's a zoom or prime, native or sigma. It's especially noticeable outdoors. I also don't like the soft image it has, the sony seems to have more pop from the get go. This bothers me more than the af. There's the price though, and ergonomics.
Just saying, Cinelike D2 was designed for colour grading, it's not supposed to be used straight out of camera. Cinelike V2 and Natural give much better skin tones SOOC and can be tweaked in-camera to your taste.
10:11 What is a Sony A7S IIIV???đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
The future đđ thanks for spotting!
B = S5
Sony B
Lumix auto focus it's not the best but Cannon also let me down during important recording. You need to learn how to use it. With Lumix the best way is to set đ auto focus for your vlog walk talk ect. and press the lock button â This should work because most probably you stay in the same distance from the camera and it do not need to track your eye đïž Setting slightly larger aparatute like 2.8 f / 3.5 f would make this even better. Camera it's a one thing and ability to use its another. It's like a car driving. You can either drive smoothly or less smooth.
