I use Ryobi because my Uncle Bill when I first got in the industry and I didn't have a lot of money suggested them to me. Over the years they have impressed me with the improvements that they have with their power tools I use them now in construction and a lot of people that I work with have been impressed with their ability to keep up with the other professional grade tools especially on the high-performance Line of the tools. I'm looking forward to this new battery coming out extremely.

Hey. That is a very cool story. I am also impressed with how they keep up with more expensive brands and sometimes even surpass them. I hope you can report later on on the new Edge battery.

You raised a very good point regarding the speed demo Vs who are they targeting. Great analysis.

Thanks. I found it interesting that no one really mentioned that, and I watch a lot of stuff.

In the USA, high energy batteries are called high performance, and the two pins at the back are suppose to draw more power to one +HP tools with two pins where the battery should be inserted. They only just add more torque, and yeah, more performance. It also makes the tool more efficient the more high the Ah is.

Maybe it's not like that. We have here in the UK HP batteries, and then very special High Energy batteries: 4Ah and 9Ah only. The HP batteries also have extra 2 connectors. Although, I do find all those differences annoying. Ryobi should be more upfront about the differences and exact specs.

Ryobi is good on the job site just to fill in for a tool you only use once in a while like you said for 10 cuts what does it matter how fast it is

Yeah. Thanks for reaffirming what I already suspected. It's just common sense. But also, I'm glad we can get higher energy batteries just so we can get excited even more about our tools :-)

Here in the US we use high power draw tools that would benefit vastly from higher wattage draw batteries . I have a several ryobi 18 volt tools that need higher amp draw batteries such as hot air gun, grinder , hammer drill etc … there are several things I can’t seem to figure out . The wattage output of any battery, looking at the mfg cells tells me some of info in C rating but the battery control board could limit amp draw . Also HP tools use an extra pair of tabs that unlock the extra current draw if anyone knows how those tabs work that would be amazing not sure if it’s a constant voltage , a jumper or a PWM signal . I currently use 4 AH and 8 AH 18 volt and the 8 Ah 21700 battery is amazing super high current draw . So if they come out with more tabless 21700 batteries that can discharge 2 to 3 times the current output that would be amazing . I can see a day that ryobi 18 volt OPE leaf blower reach 800 to 1000 cfm with tabless batteries

I have not heard of anyone knowing anything specific about those extra two connectors on the batteries. It's a shame that Ryobi is so quiet about that. They say nothing at all - not even approximate specs or which tools utilize that and to what degree.
Here in the UK we have 9Ah batteries, and now 4Ah in high density. We just got 6Ah recently (normal version). We still don't have 8 or 12Ah batteries. The naming is also different together with the looks comparing to the US batteries. Again, no explanation from Ryobi what the differences are and why they are different in the first place. I find it bizarre and very bad.

My new 4ah (RB1840X) had the extra contacts on the rear but no high energy branding. I don't know if ryobi are just using the same shell for different batteries, but it seems it gets even more confusing.
