    I liked your layman's terms about vortex ring! You called it; the best way to get out of vortex ring state is forward cyclic and lower the collective, altitude permitting of course. One of the instructors told me a few days ago, "Hell, you could pitch any direction with the cyclic until you get ETL back if you really wanted." I laughed and agreed. Also, for those curious, in reality, it takes three things to get into vortex ring state 1. a below ETL (effective translational lift) airspeed, 2. pulling 20% or more power and 3. a greater than 300fpm decent rate. Just remember, you can have any two of these three conditions but get all three and then bam you're in VRS. I don't know exactly how that all works out in DCS, however, it seems fairly realistic and I just started messin around with it so I have a lot to learn. I'm sure I'll be using a lot of these videos LOL. Nice job Froogle and Thanks!

    Yeah same here - I know the A-10 inside out, but the KA-50 just delivers that feeling of 'flight' like nothing else.

  • @frooglesim
    @frooglesim  Před 11 lety +1

    Thank you. Yes I shall continue to make tutorial vids on the shark, and have been thinking of the A-10 as well. I know that aircraft inside out, but it's so popular within the DCS environment (naturally so) that I intentionally chose not to cover it. Still thinking though. And yes, there is a whole video series coming on this channel called "Cold and Dark" - the Shark is included in that series.

  • @frooglesim
    @frooglesim  Před 11 lety

    An absolute TON. I am literally going to melt your mind with the next vid. Been spending 5 to 8 hours with that aircraft every single day for the past few weeks working on it.

    Brilliant vid thank you so much for posting this.
    I am waiting on a new gaming setup and the DCS series is the first thing I'll be investing in. The Black Shark is one that I wanted to get first but wasn't sure if I should go in at the deep end. This video gives me more confidence to dive in and give it a go, it's invaluable.

    Well, I certainly got into a *very* interesting situation with the KA-50. I was practicing low flying and sideways flying when I got a little to low, I actually ended up bumping into the ground. "Better do something else" I thought, as i continued doing some turns. But the aircraft was handling very weirdly, tried trimming it, nothing. Until I finally went to 3rd person and found that I'd lost the entire back half of chopper and was flying around a disembodied cockpit! I then promptly crashed.

    Great tuts! I just jumped in Shark from the beloved fixed wings (A-10 earlier and now BMS Falcon) and I must say Shark is quite challenging :) Landing is great idea as You said so I will watch with pleasure. I must admit after hours of flying on the planes I have much trubles with coordinating this heli so if you will come up with some more basics ( Do's and Don'ts) I'll be thankful. Anyway once again thanks for the good work.

    This is a fantastic video, I hope you continue to do tutorials for the Black shark, we have a ton of amazing folks doing A-10C stuff but we don't really have any doing really solid and easy to understand Black shark stuff.
    I wonder if it would be possible for you to do something as simple as a startup tutorial for the black shark, again, we have a few of those out there but none with your easy to understand style.
    Keep up the amazing work!

    Absolut n00b with the KA-50...the main things I remember is 30^ pitch or roll, when recovering from a dive “gently” pull up the cyclic (or the collective, I don’t really know the difference yet, nor do I know how one operates either...keyboard commands or HOTAS..?)

    8:40 That warning sound was the radar altimeter warning, long low beep, the rotor over speed is a similar tone but more iterations and is accompanied by the rotor RPM warning light, you did well not to over rev the rotors in the dive :D

    Great video as always, but I did find an error. When you were recovering from the dive, that solid tone was the minimum altitude alert from the radar altimeter, not a rotor overspeed.

  • @nightman7263
    @nightman7263 Před 6 lety

    The warning sound (continuous) is not overspeed on the rotor but the radar altimeter telling you that you just dropped below your minimum set altitude, which I think was 100m.
    Overspeed on the rotor would be signalled by a beeping low tone sound accompanied by the rotor RPM light flashing above the radar altimeter indicator.
    Excessive airspeed would be indicated by a beeping high pitch sound and the master caution light flashing, together with the IAS MAX caution lamp indicator.
    Excellent video though.

    Hey froogle great video. It would have been helpful to many people to clarify what you were doing with the trim while performing these manouvers. Did you hold the trim in to avoid conflicting with it? or did u simply go against it and retrim once you came out of said manouver.
    Also want to point out that the warning u got at 08:35 wasn't an overspeed warning, but a Ralt warning that you can set the threshold of it on your Raltimeter :)

    Hi Froogle, ive just got the x55 after watching your vids about it & wandered if you could make a vid to help me out please? My main game is arma 3 but ive just got DCS (again, thanks to your vids). arma 3 now has the AFM (like TOH). Ive never used a stick/Throttle before & am finding it very over whelming at the moment. What im after is a back to basics tutorial on helicopter flying with the x55. I dont understand basic stuff like what happens when my throttle is forward or back. I know this all sounds very basic, but its only basic if you have the knowledge & right know im very lacking in flying.
    Many thanks in advance

    Also Glad I found your Channel this week, I love it. I started getting back into the Sim world recently. I haven't touched a Sim since about 2000(FS98, was the last general and Janes LB2 was the last Combat Helo, I think I had an f-22 as well) when School was getting busy and then I started college and couldn't feed the beast, financially, also nothing from 2003 on ran on an old Pentium 2 either. You seem to be obsessed with Vortex Ring State or VRS, but that wasn't VRS In the demo. It was loss of forward airspeed which turned into rearward airspeed causing reversed airflow of the vertical stabiliser. That was what caused the loss of control, and not VRS. To get into VRS you need 3 conditions, airspeed less than 30kts, rate do decent greater than 300fpm and power applied. Without 1 of those it's not normally VRS.

      @MaverickX2k5 Před 8 lety +1

      +Alexander19851 nothing to do with G-force. The problem with the Koax-rotor design is, that the lower rotors blades will successivly bend upwards while rotating in direction of movement when your speed rises. Now when you input left cyclic and or a lot of collective your lower blades will cross the upper blades

  • @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32
    @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Před 9 lety +1

    To be honest, the blackshark really isn't hard to fly, It's more 3-4 bad habits that new pilots do that leads to their demise. Not understanding how the trim and stabilisation system works is probably the main reason. The second reason is they don't understand the tactics of combat are very different to a plane.
    The trim is easy, you just need to learn to hold down the trim, stabalise your helicopter with small precise controls, and then finally release the trim. If you just press the trim you are going to have a bad time.

    • @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32
      @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Před 9 lety +1

      To do the combat U-turn you don't need to turn on the flight director. Again, just hold down the trim. Holding down the trim will disable the Autopilot until you release the trim. When you release the trim it will set your autopilot to your new heading aswell.
