Awww you don’t need to become Filipino. You simply need to learn more about your other cultural heritage. I’m 1/4 Filipina myself and learned Tagalog through OPM music since it’s not my Lola’s dialect. Anyway, I’m a new fan of SB19. Hope you check out their other songs!

Jake, this is the song that really resonated with Filipinos, since family is really important in our culture. This was written by Pablo and the rest of SB19 when they were on their first tour and away from home. The "lataratara" part is based on a lullaby Pablo's grandma used to sing to him. I see it as a song to ease the worries of their parents. The song has some play on the words Mama, Papa, and Mapa (map) as well as Mata(eyes) and Paa (feet)
A lot of SB19 song have Filipino cultural values and references, jusk ask away, A'tin is a chatty fandom and we'll be in the comments to fill you in! 😁

Since we're all grown up it's about time for our parents to just stop doing the hard work, sit, relax and let us take care of them this time. The MAPA is very meaningful to many filipinos and I can tell that other nationalities too as I had seen foreign vloggers was crying, regretting that they did not realized the importance of their parents in their lives until they've heard this song. One of them even watched it with his mom beside him that he mentioned he already heard the song but wanted to watch it with his mom.
As a born filipino w/ a eurasian roots myself, I am quite proud that I was raised with the tradition and culture before I left the Phils. at a very young age. And this tradition can't be traded to anything else in the world w/c is the respect, deep love and family values that wherever we may go no matter how long it would be it is the family that we always returning to. You should start learning basic tagalog. I wasn't fluent when I left the country but still learning while abroad. At least I can use 80% of it now.
btw you mentioned that you wanted to know the story behind the song and the values of SB19, you can go to their SB19 official youtube channel and you can scroll down all of their given interviews about them, their hardships in life, their journey towards to where they are now and the meaning behind all the songs that they have created. Most of the video interviews were in English subtitles.
They are young adults whose feet are still on the ground, so humble, a family oriented ppl that are unfazed by their fame.

I think you should watch their interviews to know them better. Start with Korean Times interview then Toni Talks and KwentoJuan. Their journey as an artist is never been easy. Their struggles mold them to be better in their chosen craft. And you are right, as filipinos, family comes first.

Thank u for this reaction, I have been hearing that song for 2 days ahah and I am glad you've reacted to it. You should react to the live version ft. Ben&Ben, a Filipino band with twins that is amazing too. That live performance makes me cry every time.
Although the band version of MAPA with Ben&Ben is also good, I prefer this original version. In the B&B band version, you don't feel much emotion like this version. The instruments especially the heavy beat of the drums overpowered their voices thus making the song less emotional. That's just my personal opinion.
