As always, these are just my opinions. I ain't any more of an authority than you are, so like what you like! (And dislike what you dislike.)
Still waiting on home free video.
Grady Smith lovin these videos about country music in the decade or 2019! If you don’t mind I’d like to see a Maddie and Tae video about their new music. (They’re my fav!) They got an album and another ep coming up for 2020 I’m so excited!
10,000 hours should’ve been here
Just go for it Grady.
The best line I've ever heard like a pubescent boy, who smoked pot and drank, my face hurts from laughing!!!!!
in conclusion luke combs doesn’t make a bad song
Me the alt centrist what song by Luke is bad?
Me the alt centrist oh
But unfortunately he is overplayed on the radio
sarah short I love Luke, but beer never broke my heart is terrible
@@FinalConsensus Yes! im sick of Even though im leaving. Its played way to much.
I miss the steel guitars and fiddles playing in country songs. Now a days it's a pop song with a mediocre southern accent
100% agree! Just because there is a twang in the voice, doesnt make it country
Hell right lol
Yeah same I hate that they just threw the steel and fiddle and replaced it with a electric guitar and not even good ones like softer guitars but it's like a new rock guitar
TEXASTIM Hip Hop Country
True
First country boy band? Rascal Flats would like a word lol
Well at least Rascal Flatts for the most part puts out quality music. Not to mention, those guys are pretty talented dudes (it took me a bit to get into them until I realized that they're actually really good musicians)
Right!?!?!?
Joshua Pinckney how are they a boy band? They don’t dance, they play instruments and they still have steel guitar, fiddle and banjo in their music after all these years
Watch the music video for “Praying for daylight”, they definitely had a tad of boy band going on with their debut album it was 2000 though that was the thing. Also Joe Don could have easily been in a boy band haha
Joshua Pinckney and midland
This is why I listen to George Strait
Anyone still listen to Chris Ledoux!!
Bass Angler 4679 hank, haggard, ledoux, cash, and independent artist like buddy brown.
"A tender vanilla bean" - Grady Smith 2019
Lol. I loved when he said that.
Zac Brown has basically outlined “how to tank your soaring career in 3 bad moves.” 1. Put out a horrible album that has a completely different sound than what you’ve built your fan base on. 2. A few days later put out a solo album that’s similar, just to further rub it in your fans faces. After all you could’ve saved your “selfish” music choices for your solo album but decided not to. 3. Blame your fans when it’s not well received. Make sure they know that the reason they don’t “get it” is because they’re “country purists.” Also throw in a comment about how your musical tastes have grown because of all of your “travels.” Ya ... us bumpkins who never go anywhere just aren’t worldly wise enough to relate to your elevated, fancy new taste in music. 🙄🤢
I don't think I've ever seen an artist coast off a debut album as ZBB has with The Foundation. The fact that people STILL care about them, despite every album after the fact being divisive, is pretty remarkable.
Heather Miyakawa spot on Heather
YES SIS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s hard to imagine it’s the same band that wrote Colder Weather or Highway 20 Ride.
Alyssa M. Hughes It is. They’re such an incredible band and arguably one of the best group of musicians compiled, regardless of genre. I’ve seen them several times live and been a hard core fan for over ten years. That’s why this recent turn is soooo disappointing. When they’re in their prime, in their wheelhouse... wow are they amazing. But this recent turn has me totally... done. Clearly their success has gone to Zacs head. Maybe one day they’ll come back to us. Until then, at least we have their albums before The Bowel... I mean, The Owl.
“A pubescent boy that smoked pot and drank a four loko at the same time” Ah yes high school. A better time
I fucking died when he said that lmaoo
I felt attacked by that line. 😂 Only difference is me and my friends were blasting Florida Georgia line 😂
As an 18 year old in college. I don’t wanna talk about four Lokos lol
I think if I tried that now I’d die
"Dustin Lynch is like a pubescent boy, who smoked pot and drank a four loko at the same time."
Me: spits out Taco Bell laughing.
Jake Peters I don’t know why that makes so much sense, hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa.
Hahahaha dead 😂😂😂
How to find the worst country music: Just turn on the “country” radio.
mjdegn glad someone else agrees with me.
mjdegn you’re so edge and unique
I half agree with you. I like some of the new country, by certain artists, but others I just hate.
101.9 Oklahoma City
Facts
That zac brown comment the lesson hear is “not how to respond to a divorce”
Anyone still listen to Hank Sr/Jr, George Jones, or Alabama?
I'll listen to Alabama til my dying day
American Patriot 44 no those songs are trash
Matthew Woodcock get ur ears cleaned, best era of country music
Ill start on HWS when I kill myself in 10 or 15 years.
there are no radio stations in my area that play this kind of music in my area If you want to listen to good music may I suggest internet radio and search the Americana genre that is where real country went not the snap track pop they put on country radio now
"I'm not just a country artist."
Okay Taylor Swift
I really liked Hell Right lol guess that’s my guilty pleasure.
Deasy monster
Same
Deasy Same here
Same love it
I just love Blake lol. He’s really nice irl too. I ran smack dab into his chest at Tin roof one night and I just looked up at him and said “hey you’re Blake shelton” and he was just worried about whether I spilt my drinks or not. Lol
Knockin' Boots, I will agree doesn't have the best lyrics, yet somehow it became my guilty pleasure song. I was driving around town on a rainy afternoon earlier this year when it came on and it just put me in a better mood and got me thinking about going line dancing at my favorite bar that night. I just can't play it around my bandmates as they hate it with a passion.
Knockin Boots is easy to sing too. It's a fun karaoke song.
@Marissa M agreed. Knockin Boots is kind of a boring song, not really a story, it's just not my cup of tea.
Lowgaen Schmidt yeah I like it too. It’s fun on karaoke as well. Might not be the most exciting or thoughtful song but it is a guilty pleasure.
I will admit I don't even know what 'Knockin' Boots' means. I can imagine, but I would imagine it's a lot more innocuous that it sounds. Who knows. I would figure it's dancing, but a lot of people have said it involves a closeness between people that shouldn't be portrayed publicly. I don't know or care. I don't knock boots in any of the scenarios and am not inclined to.
TR Goohileshea knocking boots means have sex
They aren't bad songs. They
just aren't country
Wrong.
They're Bad..
AND They Ain't Country.
True
They're bad country songs which what this video is about.
@@TheJpep2424 then literally all of the new crap should be on here. Cuz it ain't been real since Willie and George
With a few exceptions such as cody jinks
Two things
1. I think the country music divide has grown between more traditional and poppy sounds which is good and bad.
2. Ive seen chris janson live, he can play the harmonica incredibly well. Its disappointing and sad that he releases crap music but is a talented musician.
Grady- “It’s like a pubescent boy who smoked pot and drank a 4 locos at the same time”
Me- instantly flashes back to better times
I agree except for Kinfolks- didn’t like it at first, but it has one of the catchiest hooks of the year and kind of has this genuine energy about it, I like it
Yes agreed! I like Kinfolks. I think the beginning of it is really memorable.
Yes I agree!! Kinfolks is good, not much on the country but it's still a good song
@@velvet4299 on the poppier end of the country spectrum
@@courtney.22 true but it's not a bad song. Almost everything on the radio is pop with country rather than the other way around sadly :(
Allison Wood if it’s on country radio it’s garbage don’t defend it. Bring back hank pls
“It’s like a pubescent boy who smoked pot and drank a 4loco at the same time.”😂😂😂😂😂
I wish Gary Allan would put a new album out. I love his stuff.
I’m surprised Ridin’ Roads didn’t piss me off as much as it probably should have and I too am still hold out for better from Lanco. But I can’t forgive Chris Lane for the worst song of 2019 - I Don’t Know About You because of the worst line of 2019 - “I know your favorite beer, ‘cause you told me and I bought it”
John Brouwer yep he’s brutal I also thought that lone was hilariously bad
"What's your wrist tattoo bible verse say?" - maybe a clever lyric, but total douchebag guy at a bar assuming every girl must have a wrist tattoo - not a good song.
I love those songs though. Ur wrong lol
Some of these songs I have never heard, but when Grady puts them on, I agree with Grady.
Dragongaming-Kid friendly gaming right me too! The boy groups an the one girl group man I’ll be glad I haven’t heard anything they’ve done! I agree with this list! Just not great songs!
@@jcbogdon
Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one!
Dragongaming-Kid friendly gaming i found ya again haha
@@JadenDecker
Haha! Tag! You're it!
Tyler Childers, colter wall. Look em up. They're saving the genre
Tyler Childers is the absolute best!
DukeOfTennessee117 and Cody Jinks and The Steel Woods. Never played on country radio though. Weird.
jeffrey kingsbury Cody jinks is getting record deals now. Just another sellout
DukeOfTennessee117 I’ll check him out
Dean Brody's "Cattleman's Gun"
THAT sounds like real country
How about No Judgement Day by Gary Allan or even David by Cody Jinks?
Silver Scorpio it’s unfortunate that Dean Brody doesn’t get noticed as much in the States because he makes good music. One of my favourite Canadian artists 👍
Silver Scorpio dean brody is legit
Jamie Martin cody jinks was a great independent artist but is selling out
Just listened to this song and now I'm a fan. Thank you for the new discovery. :-)
What I like about you, Grady, is that you're so articulate in your analysis. The way you described Dustin Lynch as merging the worst parts of two trends and not being a "macho douchebag" or a "tender vanilla bean" really cracked me up. Good job, man!
The best line ever said like a pubescent boy who smoked pot, and drank. GRADY JUST BURNED THE HELL OUT OF DUSTIN LYNCH!
Tim and Moby approve of this list!!
Tim And Moby beep beep
Worst country music of 2019? Anything that is played on modern country radio.
ok boomer
Jonathon Chapman dude shut up city perick
Damn right
@@jeffreycarter2548 You mean Hell Right, right?
@@danGroutZ hahahaha...yeah, I forgot
hey Grady thanks so much for your channel! One of my New Year's resolutions is to keep up with music more and your channel makes that so much easier! I can't add any worst songs I know because with your help I've only been listening to the good stuff this year.
I like my fair share of Vanilla Bean when it comes to Dan + Shay.
Those two creep me out.
The supercut to "UHH, UHH" from That's My Kind of Night is easily the best running trope on this channel 2:40
Just getting around to this. Thanks, Man! This is great. Keep it going.
Apart from your excellent reviews of country songs and albums, as a non-native user of English, I really admire your pronunciation and the rich choice of descriptive expressions. You're a good speaker and I can learn a lot from you.
Grady I do typically prefer the "Best of" videos, but your commentary and editing in this one were phenomenal. Had me cracking up multiple times! 😂
You are so right! I totally agree!
These times I am listening to Dolly, Reba and Jo Dee, just to help me remember what country is... My my
Miss the old Zac Brown Band too!!
When you find out County has boy bands “I wish Chris Ledoux would come back”
I was dissapointed by Toby Keith "That's Country bro" - it's so boring
Don’t know what happened to Dustin Lynch but miss the singer who came out with cowboys and angels for sure...he lost his way.
Don't quote me, but I think he was upset about the results one year when his song "small town boy" didn't get any awards at the CMAs. The years following his debut, he was hot but was hurt because he felt that his song deserved the title. Hope everything makes sense, but yes I miss him too 💖
Someone finally posted something g like this that I have been waiting for. Thank you
Glad I’m not the only one thinking these things, right on dude, keep up the great content!
every one in my school literally will just scream "HELL RIGHT" just cuz
Grady, You are like the most underrated person ever. The editing legitimately kept me interested and was actually funny.
Just found your channel and love your video and content!! Subscribed!
Don’t always agree with your views but I love your approach and sophistication. Keep it up man, cheers to 2020!
Alan Jackson, George Strait, the last real country stars.
Luke combs?!?!?
I agree
Cody Johnson, Aaron Watson, Jon Pardi aswell
Randy Rogers, Jon Wolfe, Randall King
Nope. Still Alan and George. Never heard of these other guys
I hear some of these country songs for the very first time watching Grady Smith vidoes, and glad I miss out....
also i remember youtube/vevo shoving mitchel tenpenny's alcohol song via ad down my throat before every video for like 2 months straight
Man love the channel! You tell it like it is!
None of these songs are even country. It’s just garbage pop that has country words in it.
You so perfectly worded that. I absolutely love it 😂
I am surprised you didn’t mention 10,000 hours with Dan and shay... love that song actually but not sure it’s truly “country”
It's not country at all, just some frauds with a guitar and auto-tune who call themselves "country" but are really pop musicians.
alex brown
Agree, I really dislike that song. There is no lyrical value in it, and the tune is very blah. :)
Shay Mooney is one of the most talented artists in Nashville right now what’s are you even talking about?
@@HermeneuticsMatter agreed!
I have a respect for Dan & Shay and its undeniable that they've got talent and potential but I personally don't consider them to be country- stadium country at best- because quite frankly it takes a hell of a lot more than just the twinge of a drawl for something to be considered country music or not.
Grady, I have never laughed so hard as listening to your comments on these "country" albums! You can now count me as a new subscriber! You do a great job of weaving in the history of country music while understanding that every genre changes...but hopefully changes in a GOOD way (and these albums definitely did NOT)!
Awesome video! I personally think riding roads, alcohol you later, and kinfolks were great in my opinion. I love to turn them up while driving around or just chilling listening to music. Keep doing what you are doing! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Pretty much anything by Kane Brown makes my list for the worst lol🤷🏼♀️
Kaitlyn Stenoski yeah surprised there was no Kane brown here lol
Kaitlyn Stenoski Kane Brown has a naturally great voice at least.
Gash. He has a lot of bad stuff but For my Daughter is a really good song.
Hi Grady. Can you like make a video on Hunter Hayes' career and discography? I really would like to know what you think about him as an artist and his music. I've been your fan for years now, your videos and contents really helped me to really understand country music. As a person who lives in the country that doesn't really like country music, I really find myself stuck. Whenever I feel down when I ask people to listen to country music, I'd watch your video. Thanks for all the opinions, knowledge that you've shared all these years.
Dylan Massett He’s my cousin. Ngl, don’t like his music, but a video on him would be cool. Deserved? Probably not. Maybe?
See I’m sorry but I said “hell right” long before that song came out. I used to say that was my positive way, to say more things with Hell right instead of hell no. Now that damn song is out nobody believes that lol
New viewer here. I agree with so much on these picks! You said exactly what I was thinking so many times!
That electric guitar on the wall.
Grady, this is where you shine. Do we want more “worst” videos?! Hell right we do.
sampsonrover
I see what you did there ;)
You spit so many facts that I’ve wanted to sum up for so long. Thank you soldier🙏
Happy new everyone!! 🥳
You were spot on !!!! Dustin Lynch disappointed as an artist. He came out with two great country songs, then all of a sudden he felt he needed to be like the bro bullshit to relevant. Zach Brown don't even get me started, he talked so much crap about Luke Bryan doing pop and then all of a sudden he's more than country artist etc. Couldn't agree more, I respect Taylor Swift for saying hey all I'm going pop full time. That' what a lot of these people need to do.
There were two songs on Dustin Lynch's album 'Current Mood' that I thought were pretty good. One is called 'New Girl' and the other is called 'Sun Don't Go Down On That'.
I've never heard 90% of those songs but I already dislike them.
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Don't write them off until you hear them with an open mind. I used to do that, and now that I've reconsidered, I've learned to appreciate variances in the label "country music". :-)
Merry Christmas, friend!
@@peggyrider2364 maybe I should consider that. Merry Christmas!
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Just a thought :)
I still prefer more true country, but I can get on board and enjoy some older Sam Hunt, some Thomas Rhett, Locash and Cole Swindell
@@peggyrider2364 Cole Swindel is my guilty pleasure just like Dan and Shay.
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Haha same with Cole Swindell. I'm not a huge fan of Dan and Shay, but I do love Speechless and I enjoy Tequila :)
Up until tonight i thought that Zac brown clip was edited, I am horrified
I'm just psyched that you mentioned LoCash - been a rising for years -love these guys.
The Worst Country Music Of 2019
Me: The Owl (Zac Brown Band)
I need more roast-Grady. This is hilarious.
This vid was hell right 😀 nice work once again. Are you in Nashville ?
Just feel very blessed that I didn't recognize at least 2/3 of these songs.
"Knocking boots" had to be one of my least favorite songs in 2019. Drove me absolutely bananas whenever it came on and I had to immediately change it
imsuper_thanksforasking same here
It’s such a goofy song😂😂
That's my guilty pleasure song.
imsuper_thanksforasking facts
Let’s get Grady to 100k subs!
idgaf how generic riding roads is it's my jam and is like #5 on my 2019 spotify wrapped playlist hahaha
I think its alright but he has better songs.
AliceRoared yessss!! He’s a talented artist. Such a good voice too
AliceRoared so you “jammed” to shitty music? Weird flex but okay
Retitle this "Country has been shit since 2007....all of it, yes all of it"
Thats being generous. 88 would be more correct and this is coming from someone who grew up with 90's country.
Someone finally said it about Hell Right! 🙌🏼 This is a great list, although I probably wouldn’t have included Knockin’ Boots. It’s no masterpiece, but there were far worse.
About your comment about country boy band and other music that should be pop music. Here is my theory. The Pop scene is really competitive and in order to establish a spot artist have to establish some type of notoriety. I believe that some agent have drawn lessons from the Taylor Swift experience. Lots of people listening to country music are hybrid fans. Meaning that they lesson to some country resembling pop and saying that it is like country music and remaining pop fans. new artist make the hybrid type of music and build a fan base to after migrate into the pop world much more easily. My thoughts!!!!!!!!!!
Think you may be right!
one of ur best videos and one of my favs! i agreed with like all of these except kinfolks because sam hunt lol but u were reading my mind as i was watching otherwise 👌🏼
I would add a few other to my list over some of the ones you chose.
One man's Tanya Tucker is another man's Faith Hill
The Luke Bryan edits get me every time 😂
just found your channel, love it. the worst thing about some of these choices - - one of the only country stations i can get in my area play nearly all of them.... thank G for the internet channels
Oh my gosh the meme at 4:50. I spit up my drink.
kinfolks is a joke round our house. we take turns singing "i wanna introduce you to my xxxxxx" and we put in a variety of redundant things. like small shrimps. its a lot more fun than listening to the song.
Matthew Williams
That's amazing 😅 Respect 👌👌👌
I alway thought it was "I wanna introduce you to my Kenpo" lol
Worst “country” song is God Given ZBB and it ain’t close.
Someone needs to steal Grady's phone, take the 1 second clip of That's My Kind of Night and make it his text tone.
You should make podcasts on this it would be amazing
Can you review “lady like” by Ingrid Andress, I like it, but I want to know what you think.
"Hell Right" is truly dreadful. I listened to part of it one time and couldn't even finish. I also hated "Talk You Out Of It" by FGL mostly because of how creepy it comes off.
Blake Shelton is not great
I actually really like “Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time” by Thomas Rhett. Amongst all the pop country albums out there, Center Point Road was actually one I really liked.
I truly can’t help but love you.
Country is a strong word... lolol
Pop music
There would be no conflict if they would just split country up into different genres like pop country, rap country, outlaw country, classic country. It’s too diverse nowadays
clev 1 The problem is that pop country is the only one played on the radio
I lost my shit laughing when I heard "She was sweeter than sugar Cain" xD
Thank you so much man you are hitting it right on the dot.
Surprised to not see Dive Bar on here
Luke Bryan has really disappointed me this past year not gonna lie
Same.
He's out of his prime for sure
Yep.
Great voice, look, Star power... But his songs are plain terrible
Just this year?
It’s so weird how much I agree with everything you talk about.
Not That I shouldn’t it’s just insane how much we agree on
I adore country and was raised on 90s country - Alan, Clint, Garth and of course Reba and George. I do like some newer country but since I found Prime Country on Sirius, I'm listening to that more.
This is ironic since I was just telling my girlfriend about the changes that country music went trough. (Bluegrass of 50s, golden age of the 70s-80s, the emergence of the pop country 90s-2000s, then some of the crap that’s out now. Aka country rap, country boy bands, weird Colabs and great artists going bad by conforming to the new “hits”)
Kinfolks is a guilty pleasure for me
Same 😊
I actually don't think it's a particularly bad song or anything.
I just find it more uninspired and bland more than anything. And the titular hook doesn't even really stick in a pop song context. It's just in-one-ear-out-the-other forgettable. But it doesn't grate my nerves like most of Hunt's other singles have.
Country’s first boy band was “the highwaymen” heck off this new country generation
Curious what you think of Cole Swindell
Just realized I’ve written a song called “Country Trap” (“trap” meaning something to get stuck in) without knowing that country-trap is a term now. Whoops.
