    I grew a bunch of petunias from seed this season and it was kind of an accident! I thought i planted snapdragons lol. They got big too fast so i just stuck them in my garden bed and forgot about them. I figured they'd die without being hardened off properly. A few weeks later, i saw petunia flowers and i was confused! They ended up being the stars of the show this season and outperformed all of the fancy hybrids. They're tough plants! The new hybrids need constant watering and fertilizer. Old fashioned petunias always seem to look great

    I wish I would have watched your video first last video I watched they had me a pot them to additional times after germination stage🤯
    🤦‍♀️ what a horrible, tedious task that is
    I will be doing it your way from now on. Thank you so much!!!!

      I do that sometimes for my vegetables, but flowers mostly do just fine when seedlings transplanted in their final spot. Happy growing and thank you very much for your comment!

    How long do petunia seeds take to germinate and, do they need direct exposure to sunlight once planted?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 3 měsíci

      Depending on the condition it may take up to 15 days for seeds to germinate. The colder, the longer. And yes, light helps germination, but make sure the soil surface is always moist. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!

    Did you keep your tray under a grow light when you started until they germinated? Did you get those results from that one tray? Such good results as usual. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 3 měsíci

      No, I don,t use grow lights. I keep seedlings in filtered sunlight, such as under beach umbrella or 70% shade cloth. And yes, these are from one tray. Thank you so much for your comment!

      @@TowardGarden thank you so much. I'm actually looking to purchase a shade cloth for my greenhouse (that registers at over 100 every time I've gone in) and it's not even spring. Just let the sun be out and it's not humanly possible to be in there much less plants. Can you recommend a shade cloth that perhaps you have purchased or no of that's good for a greenhouse? Thanks so much.

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 3 měsíci

      @@rbthegardennannyllc4219 It depends on what size your green house is you can find many type of shade clothes for your greenhouse. I added a link in my amazon page to the one that I have used. amzn.to/3va9elR The price is reasonable and does the job for me. Hope it helps!😊

    I am growing double petunias from seed. I had started them in jiffy pods, they stayed very small until I transplanted them in cells, and under lights. They grew so well, had to transplant them in 4 in pots because we still have 3 weeks until last frost date. I will plant them in pots along with cannas. I don’t think they suffer from transplant shock, it’s been 24 hrs and they still look good. Can’t wait to see them bloom.

    Can you plant the seeds in the pot you plan to have them in ??

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 2 měsíci

      You sure can. It is easier to control the germination and seedlings growing condition when starting in seed tray. But direct sowing is doable too. Happy growing and thank you for visiting.

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před rokem

      It is hard to tell but maybe it is because of root rot? Or if seedlings are too young it can be “damping off” which is a fungal disease? Try growing in a fresh seed mix and let soil dry between waterings. Hope you have a better results next time and thanks for visiting.

      Petunia seeds are very easy to grow, you may just got a bad batch of seeds. try a new packet of seeds. Hope you have a better result next time and thank you for visiting!
