So much to learn from you mate. Like the way you deep dive into dax and shows things end to end ...lucky to find your content
I always enjoy watching your Videos Bas! Thank you so much Bas!
I've found the field parameter quite useful to make it easier for users to change date depth on a chart e.g. Month / Week / Day, rather than them learning around the drill down arrows.
How did you make the months not go in alphabetical order? That's the main issue I ran into and your use-case is exactly what I thought field parameters would be best for too.
@@zacharyfriedman8709 in my case, I had to sort the months by a month number column in the data model
Yeah I've found this a great use case too.
Can you give an example or a sample code for that?
i added date to tooltips and order by date
just perfect! Thank you for this inspiring part!
the best Power BI channel on CZcams, hands down!
Thanks a lot Bas. Your videos are always fun to watch. Can't miss any
I appreciate that Pedro :)
Awesome, great. Thank you very much sharing very interesting points
This is an awesome capability, I’ve been building dynamic drill paths into my matrix visuals using field parameters and my users love it
Awesome would be to have matrix column written vertically... 😎 👌
@@vladimirlisovskiy6518 And measure for counting % withing group too
Thank you Bas, I'll be trying it in one of my models, hopping the Nov 22 version is available
wonderful BAS, thank you for sharing
You are just a wizard, Bas! I really appreciate you posting new content regularly... I am definitely asking my boss for a pay raise after using this on one of my reports 🤪
thanks and good luck! :)
Blew my mind. I'm just using what you showed us In my working protect. Thanks
Glad you find this useful :)
Superb ! In detail explanation 💯📊
Thanks a lot for this, Bas. There are a few other channels, but your explanations are normally best for me.
Question: instead of using 2 connected slicers there should be a way to combine them into 1 hierarchy slicer. Tried, but it doesn't work. Just wondering if you may check this.
I love your content🤩You're the PBI expert work mate who I never had.
Happy to hear that!
Great as usual Bas! Field parameters are great....but indeed...losing the sort order is really a big pain in the... 🤣. Will have to wait for your workaround video or untill Power BI fixes this 😉
Newbi to PowerBi here, @How to Power BI, you are my prayers coming true! I've watched all of your videos more or less now (multiple times). Quick question, can I use this to Select Financial Year and then afterwards select Quarter I want to show?
This is brilliant! Thanks
Love your content! Do you think the usage of bookmarks allow the sorting order to stay for now until they make an update?
Thank you. You're saving livelihoods
Oh oh :) thx but that’s too much pressure ;)
Hi Bas, this is a great video. I have a bit unrelated question. How did you display quarter and year as you have it on 9:02 min? I like how you see each quarter by year.
i love this new function. thanks for the video
Glad you like it Cristopher!
Nice video Bas.👍
Haven't tested this functionality myself so I'm wondering if the slicer selections persist if you switch to the other field parameter. Thanks Bas for the video!
Hi Bas, thanks for this really great content. Is there a way to add a Top5 Category in the parameter?
Impressive!
Best Professor with best content!
Thx Augusto!
Love you Bro ❤
Hallo Bas,
Would you know how to combine this tuto with the other tuto you performed on switching between percentage and absolute values please ?
When trying to switch between absolute and % value on a graph with field parameters it doesn't quite seem to work unfortunately.
Thanks in advance :)
Thank you very much .. this is really helpful. Thank you for the simplification in explaintion. I have a question though. Any idea how how to toggle a line chart from single line to multiline ? For instance, I have 5 stores.. i can get average of sales of all of them. Or the average of each in separate graphs.. I can't wrap my head how to make a toggle switch or slicer to reuse same graph. Any guide or idea would be much appreciated
You are just fabulous
Thank
thx Taldir!
Man before I used bookmarks to overlay identical visualizations which was incredibly tedious and maintenance intensive (prone to human error if you changed one visual and forgot to change the rest)…. This is a game changer
Show... tks!
thanks for this its really helpful!
each of the fields in my parameter have a value of 'blank'. I'd like to default the slicer to filter out 'blank' on report load but allow the user to add 'blank' in if they desire. Do you know if there is a way around this?
How do you maintain your drill level on your dates? I've set up as you have but whenever I select quarter it only picks 2022 data not 2021 & 2022....so effectively I can get it to work for only one specific year selection
Great.
You are the Best.
Thank you so much 😀
Great one! ...waiting for gradient colors in Power BI
me2 !
Thanks a lot mate 😀
Any time!
Awesome! As usual.
:) happy to see you here! thanks
Hi... I have a requirement at my ofc where we have 100 columns , out of those there are 15 measure fields n rest are dimensions . Now we have already implemented this logic to dynamically choose dimension n measure columns to get data. Now there is a filter panel created from where client can select particular brand, product, market and so on. He wants to add all 85 dimensional fields in filters without increasing canvas size . How to achieve that? Can you help?
Hello, do you any idea how could we set a dynamic default value of slicer ?
Is there a workaround for this for an older version ? My Power BI Desktop version is 2.109.782.0 64-bit (September 2022) and I'm not sure if I'll get an approval from my organization to update it.
I remember mimicking this couple of years back by creating additional dimension tables and was feeling like top of the world after that...😅
Now it's a matter of few clicks... Power BI really came a long way... But still a long way to go from visualization perspective...
agree agree agree! :)
Hi,
This is quite helpful, but I am trying to have a slicer that takes the values of the selected column and allows me to selected from the numerical values. What you show is the options of that column but it is a categorical column, how can I do when this selected column is a numerical column?. Thanks.
Is there a way to have a filed parameter slicer work so when you select an item in a slicer it will swap several preselected items when a slicer is selected. I know I could have the end users select multiple items. However certain things go with each other and thus it would be better to have 2 or 3 items in a slicer than 6-8 items. It seems like there should be a way to do this.
For some reason, PBI has discontinued this Show selected option for the slicer. Is there any work around on that?
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have one additional challenge. How can I set up default selected values for field parameter slicers
Bookmarks are probably an option
i want to return blank if there is no selection in the slicer is that possible?
Can we use drop down date slicer for this yet?
Hi Buss, do you have a technique or solution on how to use DAX or any other method using a button to set as a default the first record in a table visual in PBI.
I have a table visual with a list of names with a add_date on the first column and want to make sure that when the user opens this page in PBI the first row is selected.
I love your clarity and way of explaining things on technical solutions.
Hope to hear from you soon
Hi Bas
Do you know how to implement Field Parameters when using Tabular Model?
Thanks for the video, I am using same technique but getting error in this sequence. User selects option in main slicer then option in sub slicer, then selects the other option in the main slicer but when selecting any option in the sub slicer error in all dashboard visuals "We can't display this visual because a measure is used in cross highlithing, please remove the measure or cross highlight". Looks like the user need to clear sub slicer selections before changing main slicer
Just wondering if you can use Dynamic Slicers on measures. For instance enabling the user to switch a view between sum of sales and sum of units, keeping the dimension the same? Thanks.
This can be done using Slicers and IF Measures.
For example I have a column named "Metric" which is used in a slicer which has "Volume" and "Value".
I also have a Sales Volume Measure and a Sales Value Measure.
I would write a measue IF(SELECTEDVALUE(MetricColumn) = 'Volume',[ SalesVolume],[SalesValue])
How to achive this functionality without field parameter? I am using Power BI RS version and it doesnt have this field parameter yet.
As of today do you have a solution for field parameter sorting issue ? If you already posted video before please mention it that would help to know the work around.
Hello Bas, thank you for the video! My PBI version is of May2023, however, in the options there is no "Preview features". Do you know the reason?
you are using Power BI Report Server version (has no preview features and field parameters) .. you would need to download the "normal" power bi version
Struggling to solve a filter selection problem. Here's my problem statement: Let's say, I have 2 filters, country and order_dt. I always want the country slicer to show all countries in the list but only the respective order_dt for the country and the visuals should change according to these 2 filter selections. Hence, I used edit interactions to not let ord_dt filter my country slicer. Now, when I have selected a country (ex: US) and ord_dt (ex: 13th Feb, 2022), the visuals change accordingly but now when I change the country to say, UK- all my visuals go blank because I don't have an ord_dt= 13th Feb, 2022 for UK. Is there a way to automatically select another ord_dt which is available for UK instead of sticking to the one which was selected for US previously? This is resolved only when I manually select another date.
This helps eliminate some bookmark stacking visuals I have
Cool!
I have a question, lets say I have 4 fields, L4 Dollars, L8 Dollars and L4 Units and L8 Units - is it possible to build a Field Parameter where it switches between Dollars and Units where both Fields Change?
Show us how to make mutable set of columns(grouping hierarchy) in the Matrix viz and properly calculate % within group. User can select any combination of fields in the parameter and order of selection being reflected as grouping hierarchy
I use a filed parameter to choose a slice category on X axis. I would like to automatically choose a parameter based on other measure (not on outer slicer) how to do it? I test everything but it seems impossible. So if some measure is on then slice X by field 1, if it is 2 then slice measure by filed 2 etc.
Is field parameter available only in paid version or it is avail in free version of power bi also?
Dynamic titles for a text box dont work with Field parameters. Could you please come up with a solution for the same?
Always Awesome
For some visuals where you can’t sort by the original order from table.. like MonthName by MonthNum, I could add the “hide” field “Order” that is created in FieldParameters table.
After adding the Order field in the visual, in “small multiples” for instance, the order by get to work automatically. Just have to change the settings setup just one column and row. 🤟🏻
🐐🐐
How can we create single date using two dates if we select one date it should show the data related to that date and we change the date it has to show the data related to that date in power bi
Hello Bass, I would like to add in a Power BI report server a persistent filter. I mean, Filters that the each end user needed, be somehow saved by them. In other words, the Filters applied by each user can be automatically again applied when users return to view report. Then, depending on each user, they can open the report with the filters applied according to their needs. This would make each user's work more efficient.
Would this be possible?
Thanks master !!
Kleber
Can i ask questions to solve the table. Please reply.
How to use this dynamic slicer to filter the visuals by multiple fields ??!!
Can anyone please link the video where he solves the sort issue? :)
This is Awesome feature, i saw this functionality with combination of inactive active relationships, 2 months back on " PowerBIHelpline " channel.
When we switch between parameters it takes off my existing sorting settings. Any idead to fix it.
This I would love to know too!
is there any update on field parameter on this issue ?😢
👏👏
thx!
@@HowtoPowerBI always we can just do is clapping. the way you try to explain the subject in a simplest way with your examples is always best part in your videos. we love it. 😘
A thousand likes
:) happy to read this!
The new power Bi updates got a bugs.. try pie chart it will turn into donut chart.. and details label color of words cannot be change..i try to report it but thier CZcams channel comment is closed😂😂
This does not work for canned reporting and other reports. Kinda a half ass attempt. This is not a good idea. A heatmap would be better solution and for large organizations this is not feasible. You do not really address items for corporate reporting. More look what I did at home charts.
:)
