  • From Carcassonne to Cadaquès, it's the 5th day of my road trip. No episodes 3 and 4, as there was nothing noteworthy to see, and the desire just wasn't there, that's all. Accompanied by my TRK, we invite you to this new stage.
Discover this short journey from Carcassonne to Cadaquès, in Spain. The sun is showing itself timidly, but as I often say, the real sun is within.
Spotting a castle ruin, I instinctively stop to capture some images. The Castle of Aguilar, in Aude, is an impressive Cathar relic perched on a rocky hill. Its history, steeped in the medieval era, comes as no surprise.
Built by the Cathar lords to resist the Crusaders and the French royal forces, its fortifications date back to 1125 to 1150, during the Albigensian Crusade. The castle, constructed in red sandstone, blends harmoniously with the landscape. The massive crenellated walls and watchtowers add to its imposing appearance.
Strategic during the Albigensian Crusade, the castle held out against the French forces until 1210, led by Simon de Montfort. Today, restored and open to the public, the Castle of Aguilar offers splendid panoramas of the vineyards and the Aude countryside.
Crossing the Aude may have caused me to miss out on beautiful landscapes, but the grayish weather pushed me towards Spain, where the adventure truly takes shape. New landscapes, brilliant sun, azure skies: the desire to immerse oneself in these superb images is palpable.
Crossing the border at Le Pertus, the improved weather and the brilliance of the sun welcome me. Spain changes the scenery: different architectures, more arid mountains. Heading towards the pass leading to Cadaquès, an already impressive road. The panorama from the pass is simply magnificent, an exceptional sight on a clear day. These moments when the eyes marvel.
The Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, perched even higher on the heights of Cap de Creus, is an architectural gem that transports us through the centuries. If history and culture captivate you, this place is a treasure trove of the past.
Founded around 878 in the 9th century, it presents a fusion of architectural styles, between Romanesque, pre-Romanesque, and Gothic. A major religious and spiritual center for centuries, it now offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the mountains.
The Castell de Verdera, perched even higher, reveals an equally captivating medieval history. Built in the 11th century, it served as a strategic watchtower. Impossible to go unnoticed with an army... It witnessed many battles and historical events.
Today, this architectural and historical treasure also offers a breathtaking panorama. The descent to the port is a cascade of sensations. The winding road offers a brilliant view.
Cadaquès, in the province of Girona, is a Mediterranean jewel. Picturesque alleys, crystalline sea, enchanting atmosphere: a place where strolling in the shops is a pleasure.
It is with joy that I introduce you to this town, with aerial views for you to enjoy the show. The history dates back to the time of the Greeks and Romans, and the city was influenced by the Moors and the Carolingians.
In the Middle Ages, pirate attacks were common, but nothing exceptional for a port. In the 20th century, Cadaquès became a major artistic center, attracting figures like Salvador Dalí. Today, with picturesque charm, sublime beaches, and a rich artistic heritage, it's a sought-after destination.
Leaving this authentic Mediterranean atmosphere is heart-wrenching, I would have liked to stay longer, but no camping available. Leaving with beautiful images, that's the essential. This day of travel was a superb discovery.
