Hey I have a question. When you do fights like this is grappling allowed? If you manage to close the distance can you grab your opponents weapon or their arms?
If you want to beat a polearm with a sword, you need to be very aggressive and close distance quickly. Because of the forces involved the polearm can easily overpower the rapier and blow through its defense. The whole point of keeping your point forward is to threaten the opponent, but when your opponent has a massive reach advantage, this threat is empty. Best bet is to rush and dodge, in my experience. Even that is iffy. Mixed weapon fighting against polearms is very difficult and is a great example of why they dominated the battlefield for so much of history.
It would be nice if there was a thing that would let you get closer without getting a spear in the face. Something big, flat and sturdy, carried in the left hand... Hmm.
That sounds like a way to aggressively get skewered by a polearm. To beat a polearm you need your own polearm or an AK47 airgun. There's no other way to beat a polearm if both competitors are equally skilled.
No it has better recovery speed and overall speed and maneuverability if the fencer guy would have been dodging a little more, used some of that speed and maneuverability to jump close with a crouch poke I think he would have one a little more but instead like you said he completely relied on range
@@danieldeluna9661 I mean, it looks like he kind of gave up after a while, but seriously, there was not much he could do; agility always sounds good, but a halberd is not that slow either, and if the halberd does not overcommit it will easily win this 1on1 in the open field.

We all love your weaponism. This was extremely difficult for the rapier wielder. The only way might have been: lunging into the halberdist after he swung it too far. But that would make only few chances for him.

There's a reason that, during the same time period when rapiers were very popular, guards in many european countries used halberds. Usually longer than that one, too. Not an unwinnable fight by any means, but a noticeable disadvantage for a rapier user. But since it’s a two handed weapon it can still strike just as fast as the rapier
This is something I HEAVILY CRITICIZE on Dark Souls and will surely go on on Elden Ring: *WEAPON REALISM AND LOGIC.* In this case: 1- how a long weapon like the Halberd REQUIRES the use of both hands(and Dark Souls 4 brings back power stance, which is DOUBLE the illogic). 2- Also he grabs the Halberd in the end, not in the middle like Dark Souls.
This bout seemed to have less movement than many others that I've seen on this channel. I'm guessing that more movement would be the only chance that the shorter weapon would have. Maybe I'm wrong on that point, but I can't see how the shorter weapon would have a chance without significant lateral movement.
The rapier is definitely a good weapon and it could definitely beat a halberd of course if the person using it is good enough also the blade might have to be less flexible just enough to at least hold off another sword idk maybe I'm right

While the Alabard has the upper hand by far for distance I feel that in the video the rapier is not taking advantage of the lower weight and extra speed to enter into a more close range.
The speed difference isn’t enough to matter, historical melee weapons are a lot lighter than people think
An actual halberd at best has a four pound weight increase over a rapier, at worst it’s a 6 pound weight increase.
But since it’s a two handed weapon it can still strike just as fast as the rapier
Illuminating
The rapier just can't move the halberd
Terrible el enfrentarse a ese alabardero con una espada muy pequeña
chivalry 2 be like
Excellent example!
Long Weapon vs Short Weapon, advantage for Long Weapon more range. Halberd Win
This is something I HEAVILY CRITICIZE on Dark Souls and will surely go on on Elden Ring: *WEAPON REALISM AND LOGIC.*
In this case: 1- how a long weapon like the Halberd REQUIRES the use of both hands(and Dark Souls 4 brings back power stance, which is DOUBLE the illogic). 2- Also he grabs the Halberd in the end, not in the middle like Dark Souls.
Who cares about Realism? i will dual wield power stance fume great sword and you better like it.
Imagine him using sarissa instead.
What a suprise...Spears are better than swords...
Why does this rapier guy insit on fightin in a long range, he alreadly is in a disadvantage
Black guy doesn't show the best footwork... But man how is he supposed to survive this?
That halberd is not nearly heavy enough.
This bout seemed to have less movement than many others that I've seen on this channel. I'm guessing that more movement would be the only chance that the shorter weapon would have. Maybe I'm wrong on that point, but I can't see how the shorter weapon would have a chance without significant lateral movement.
in a dispute between a halberd and a sword, the result would be the same?
The rapier is definitely a good weapon and it could definitely beat a halberd of course if the person using it is good enough also the blade might have to be less flexible just enough to at least hold off another sword idk maybe I'm right
The white guy knows how to use his weapon well
They should exchange weapons then go for another round to account for any variance in skill.
This all looks like fun.
You can't beat a weapon with reach by only going back and forth, you need to go side to side, and no blocking, better to redirect and attack
That halberd is way too short.
What about an Europe axe and shield vs katana ?😼
Do NAGINATA vs HALBARD
The swordman, is to much rooted in his stance. He is in disadvatage and he keeps fighting in it. He never tried close distance and just len halbert guy to smash him out of reach.
Halberd > Rapier > Katana
Leftie Squad
Halberd head looks too lite?
If i was the using the rapier I would take advantage of jumping over low sweeps and also take advantage of charging into the halberd for close range grapple.
So u mean like a mikiri counter from sekiro?
Long axe rule!
This is bullying

The guy with the rapier has lead in his shoes. 😂
Get a better fighter in rapier combat and try again.
The halberd might still win but at least you'll get a better fight than that guy standing up and taking all the blows.
