The thing is Bangla is a very poetic language in nature and uses a lot of metaphors specially in our songs and poems. For example the moonlight is often depicted as either something romantic or something sad in our literature. So a literal translation of any Bangla song will always lose the meaning and feel of what it actually is trying to say. One will probably have to write a full essay to try and explain this song.

Literal translation of any language would be a deviation from the actual taste. That is because, translation is a different part of art.

It actually contains a lot of metaphoric words, so so deep. Anyways "ei obelay"/wrong season indicating the inappropriate time, not a good time. So actually, he was her lover, and she was a victim of acid attack (a terrifying thing fr), as you can see it left her face burned. Eventually she hid herself from social life, from everyone. She was insecure and thought she became ugly. On the contrary, the boy was trying to contact with her, to know what happened, wanted to show his extreme feelings for her. Hence, this song is just showing the painful ardor for each other, the unspoken feelings.

I hope this comment brings some light in your thought. In the subtitle it translated OBELAY as “wrong season” but obelay can mean a lot of things. Bangla is a very rich language and it hasn’t changed a lot since old time. So in our literature/art forms we use a lot of metaphors/ vague feelings to express ourselves. That’s the beauty of Bangla art forms. Everyone can relate/ create meaning of their own. Obelay means untimely. This song is very cryptic even for the natives. But the general expression is longing, regrets, sadness, huff(!). This song is NOT ABOUT SEASONS.

Moonlight has a special significance in Bangla literature. It can instil both happiness and sadness. To understand what moonlight signifies in a Bangla song, you'll have to go to Bangladesh in summer/rainy season, when it's really hot but it also rains heavily, go to a rooftop in a city or to a rustic clay road beside a paddy field in a village it's night, with a clear sky and a gentle breeze blowing around you, and stroll around without a goal under the night sky while the moon is up. It's a feeling. If you do this with your significant other, it'll be an experience you'll cherish forever.

It's about when you feel terrible on any given moment whether that point of time is good for anyone else in general.

    A silent compromise floats away
    Those very cold wet eyes
    I never saw you
No one anywhere is as good as that
How long and hand in hand
    How long and wrong-tired afternoon
I didn't show you wet eyes
    The violin of that time
    How long does it take?
    A wave of life
    No one else saw it
    Sometimes arrogant, disobedient retreat
I don't know what trouble this is
    Still arranged the exile
Hold on to your lips in love
When the heart becomes black in the clouds eaten by the meal
It rains for no reason alone
Even today, I paint in such surprising colors
Color the moment of lantern painted white and black
It is still the same today with a very dark cloud and ashes
Eyes burned with surprise, but decorated
Two eyes on the ocean this evening
The rib of the chest floats
    Hiding in surprise
I didn't show you wet eyes
This is yours in the sky
    A silent compromise floats away
    Those very cold wet eyes

As a fan of yours, I'd like to offer some friendly advice. When reacting to a song, it might be best to avoid watching the music video unless you need to see the lyrics. This is because music videos can sometimes distract from the song's true essence, by emphasizing visuals or other elements that the producer wants to highlight. By focusing solely on the music itself, you can better capture the rhythm and emotion of the song. I wish you all the best!

To enjoy a Bengali song, you should better focus on the song, cause it is kind of hard to get the meanings from reading the translated lyrics as the lyrics generally have too heavy inner meanings. I am not trying to discourage you to read the lyrics and you probably should always need to do this to get into our songs more and more. But the translated meaning will always misguide you that's what I am telling you.
And after seeing your reaction, you were actually getting closer to understand the meaning. Congratulation!

  • @Hridoy_Beyond
    @Hridoy_Beyond Před rokem

You, as a foreigner got mostly everything quite right. Again @artemissfion43 gave a good explanation. I would however add that since she lost her confidence in her (for being looking ugly) her life became tasteless and that's why she is shown in black and white before the river meaning she has no color in her life (and riding a boat means she is going to her death). The song before the dead old tree or blocked, black moon represents the same tasteless, meaningless life that the girl and the boy found themselves in. A moonlight light is very romantic but here as their life lost its color, it has lost its meaning as well. The lyrics are actually full of metaphors and it does not say you the actual meaning of the song but yeah, you got the actual meaning.
