    Not sure if this is accurate or not but I was taught in my blues lessons if the song is in minor keys you must use the minor pentatonic scale. If major key you can use the major scale over the I chord and the minor over the IV and V chord. Or major scale over each major chord for each separate chord such as following the chords with each individual major scale. A bit more difficult to do because you must switch scales on the fly.

      It is a common place to switch from Major to Minor .. on the IV chord... but not the only place :)

      Mixolydian is a cool sound for songs that are like 5-4-(next chord) progressions. When you first see the two notes that get added to the major pentatonic (P4, m7) and mess with it, you're like, "AWESOME! - Something easy to remember for a change!"
