His good looks overshadowed what a world class footballer he was.
Beckham was world class as a right midfielder and central midfielder. One of the best passers of the ball in any situation the game has ever seen, was great at tracking back and helping out the defense, linked up intelligently in midfield with quick short passes, and was a big game player (scored on the final day of the PL in 1999, scored vs Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final replay, scored the free kick vs Greece in 2002 to take England to the World Cup, and delivered the two assists that sealed the Treble for United in 1999). What a remarkable man David Beckham is !
I was born & bred in Manchester! a City fan & wasn’t living in Uk at this time, I live in Australia 🇦🇺
I was absolutely shocked watching the Netflix documentary, the way David was treated, by his own father, Alex Ferguson, Glen Hoddle & The press ,TV ect ! But most importantly the English People ! I’ve alway been proud & protective of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but i cried, after watching the documentary! I thought no wonder David has OCD.
As a child his father made him practice football relentlessly until David got it right no matter what!He never praised him & getting annoyed, when he got it wrong ! He was a littler boy!
Then there was Ferguson ! who wouldn’t speak to him after matches when United lost! when he did brilliantly he didn’t praise his either! We all saw it! Ferguson kicked a boot into David’s face & said he did something to make the cut look worse & never apologising! ( No wonder David has a compulsive disorder)
It didn’t matter how brilliant he played, these people were never there satisfied or wasn’t there to protect him !
And what a nasty piece of work Hoddle was ! David was playing his heart out when he was fowled, everyone at that match could clearly see it,David retaliated as many players have & do only to get a red card ! all hell let loose & blamed him for the loss! Was it the responsibility of David to win the match on his own,I don’t think so !
All those people including managers Ferguson & Hoddle should be ashamed of themselves, for not protecting a brilliant footballer & fellow countryman! At his time of need!
today he’s still absolutely gutted over the treatment & accusations that was thrown at him !
But you know what he’s a better man than any of the accusers will ever be & all have to live with themselves for what they did to him! In their eye’s he couldn’t do right for wrong 😑
Good luck to David ,Victoria & family 🥰💕
I was a privilege to watch your wonderful documentary ! The world needed to know how brilliant young sportsmen are treated by managers !

Sadly many of these superstars had to endure dysfunction to get to where they are. It's tough love in some instances and in others it is living vicariously through somebody else and reflecting your own failures on their success. I am glad that he turned out well and was given the opportunity with a supportive spouse in Victoria, to be greater than he ever imagined.

Back in the 1990's I was a fanatical Man Utd supporter, my life was based around watching them. I adored David Beckham as a boy and I felt very protective over him as a Man Utd supporter after France 98. In fact his treatment by English supporters and the media made me turn on the England football team and I've never felt the same about them since. He still comes across as very modest despite all his achievements in the game and commercial success off the pitch. Nothing but respect for David Beckham. I'm just sad it ended the way it did at Man Utd. He'll always be a Man Utd legend.

I agree. That England game against Greece with that now infamous free kick was nothing short of magical. It wasn't just the free kick - you watch in the 20 minutes before that free kick, and Beckham realises that we needed to get the points in order to qualify and he literally becomes a one-man machine, chasing all over the pitch and literally almost playing the game by himself! One thing is for sure - that man had talent, but he also had a damn good work ethic!

@@DarKsiders751 jeez mate look at the hate in you , i am equally penaldo , pessi fan . i just enjoy football , you all say penaldo pessi as if its an insult , because ofyou phucers who cant enjoy the game and are always about this or that shite rivalry , we get a bad name. David Beckham has a done way lot of things which are better than bringing Messi to the team, so his own documentarty does not need to show him bringing another player in as some kind of big achievement

Superb footballer. Could run all day and wasn't afraid of a tackle either. Wand of a right foot. A gentleman off the pitch too. Class act all round

I just watched this documentary. It was pretty amazing all the sacrifices that he made. I think him and Victoria are such a great couple. I wish them the best of luck. He truly is one of the best football players of all time. And a true love story.

What an absolutely beautiful show this was! Really showed what DB was all about.. pure class and pure quality football.. the man has been hated just as much as he was loved, and still finds a way to smile and win at everything he does. Wish him nothing but continued success. And can I say, Gary Neville is one of the most stand up fellas you can find. Well done boys. Well done

I grew up in the UK in a Rugby household. Played it at school and for my city and county. That's why football had always passed me by. So... I honestly had no idea that David Beckham, Victoria and his family were put through the ringer by the UK press and football public to such a degree. I was aware of him as a player of course, but having watched this 'honest, no holds barred' documentary, I have to say I have become a fan. What talent, what resilience and what courage, how he never broke under such vitriol and pressure speaks volumes about the man, and is a tribute to his mental strength and his relationship.

Never been a football fan but this is a documentary I want to see... for the individual's journey, talent, obstacles and personal growth. I've come to admire David Beckham starting the day he walked and waited through the entire queue for The Queen.
