Saw the Unity Band at GA Tech campus during their tour. Amazing concert. First saw PMG in 1980 on campus at FSU. I was gobsmacked and was in like the mob. Most of my peers at the time were rock and rollers and didn't hold the same appreciation. In 1986, on a first date, I pushed play on my cassette player and As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls came on. My date causally named the album and song. I froze, trying to take in that this smart, beautiful, compassionate, loving person sitting in my living room knew who Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays were. Fast forward 35+ years and this woman, who has accompanied me to PM concerts over 3 decades, mother of our two amazing sons and the love of my life turns to me in January and asks: Pat Metheny at the Kennedy in June?...........Just like 35 years ago, she had me at "Pat Metheny".
Pat Metheny is taking you to another dimension with his incredible music. This piece of music is just wonderful.
you gotta give credit to the engineer who recorded this. just amazing.
+imaginarytube So true.
+imaginarytube I don't know the details for this performance but for the Speaking Of Now tour they had a whole team of engineers, in fact every musician on stage had a separate sound engineer! And for the live DVD they each even had an extra recording engineer... Talking about perfectionism! But I love it.
and the mixing and mastering folks
Dude, thought the exact same thing, and the camera and illumination man this content piece is damn good
What Antonio performed at the last part, is one of the best thing played on drums I've ever heard.
This band is very significant for my musical growth.
Had the pleasure of watching this live! Got there early and went down in the field behind wolf trap.Guess who I find there. Pat and talked with him for a bit.Said he always warms up 2 to 3 hours before a show. This group knocked it outa the park
Antonio is the man who brings it all together. Super!!
best thing with Pat is that when you think of him achieving the max, it almost instantly apprears to be false assumption :) ...guy's exceeding himself year after year..love it wholeheartedly, Unity rocks...great stuff again!!
pat is a super human...this guy will never surrender!
Best Metheny-tune since the PMG-days IMHO.
Ben Williams' solo is outstanding
it has now been 10 years since this album was released, unsurprisingly it has aged extremely well
Pat Metheny & co killing it again. Bought the blu-ray, it's fantastic !
One of the best bands Pat Metheny has ever had
The killer line up 😵
This is the evolution and the start of next level of this phenomenon called Pat Metheny and his amazing musicians. They have no limits at all..
Too bad 99.9% of people will not understand how accomplished and OUTSTANDING this performance is.
+lastdaysguitar glad to be part of 00.1% of people
me to...
+lastdaysguitar - hate to say it, but Pat jumped the shark a while ago. Rather tedious song.
Bob Lee Your opinion Bob. My ears still hear greatness in his playing.
+Bob Lee I forgot about the Jazz master Bob Lee. Wait, who the fuck are you again?
Pat Metheny, Chris Potter, Ben Williams, Antonio Sanchez and Giulio Carmassi-you guys rock! We love you! ❤️💕😍😍😍😘😘😘
Had the pleasure of watching this live! What an amazing performance!
Overwhelming talent. ....Phenomenal!
Rewelacyjny album !!!
This is pure magic! Unbelievable!
Antonio Sánchez's cymbal game is out of this world. Up there with Jack DeJohnette.
L' orchestration est incroyable!
Caught This amazing band live twice on this tour.
Amazing
Esto esta en otra Dimension
BRUTALL, TREMENDO,
Even Pats comping and fills are melodically superior and Antonio is beyond human
one of the best things I've heard from Metheny in years.. blew my socks off!!
Brilliance magnified. I'm speechless! True Unity Group. Pat, the boss!
Músicos: Pat Metheny (guitarra eléctrica, guitarras
acústicas, guitar synth, electronica, orchestrionics), Chris Potter
(saxo tenor, clarinet bajo, saxo soprano, clarinete, flautas),
Giulio Carmassi (piano, trompeta, trombón, corno francés, cello,
vibráfono, clarinete, flauta, saxo alto, wurlitzer, voz), Ben Williams
(contrabajo, bajo eléctrico), Antonio Sánchez (batería, cajón)
INCREDIBLE !
Excellent :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Mille bravos !!!
SIMPLE THE BEST GUITARJAZZ.THE BEST BAND.
“Concerto for drums and whoever dares to play nearby” Antonio!!!!!!
Amazing.. Mind blowing greatness.
Brutal!!!
Purchasing this blu ray will be some of the best 20 bucks you've ever spent.
goosebumps. every time.
Pure Gold!
Magic!
Just...wow.
That was a journey!
I still listen to As Falls Wichita, So falls Wichita Falls, often.
Wow!
genius of music !
Superlativi, Amazing!
Just Wow!!
Reminds me of Ralph Towner's 1974 record Solstice
Nivel Superlativo, , asi como "To the end the world" live Japan '95 o The way Up live en Seoul (opening) 2005...
Who the fuck would dislike this?.....
Senzillament brutal !!
pure awesomeness! much love! :)
Damn Antonio...
hard work!!
yesss
Excelente. Gran aporte sonoro.
Amen!
Great stuff. Sounds like it could have been off the PMG “Offramp” LP. 👍🏻
Saw him at Ronnie Scott's earlier this year.
What a gig that was.
Enthralling.
As he nears 60, Pat Metheny
seems ever-hungrier to pack even more musical ideas and technical
innovations into each crowded project - interrupted only by last year's
inspired and affectingly direct interpretations of John Zorn's Songbooks.
With Kin (←→), a set of new originals for his talented Unity Group
featuring reeds star Chris Potter, now bolstered by the awesome
multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Giulio Carmassi, Metheny sounds
pulled between hurling in everything he knows and revisiting the
songwriting lyricism and cinematic openness that made him one of jazz's
most popular stars from the 1970s to the 90s. The later numbers here -
including the title track's racing groove and soulfully mournful sax
theme, the beautiful ballad Born, the R&B-inflected anthem We Go On
and the folk melody and band dialogue on Kqu - bring the classic Pat
Metheny Group's leisurely vitality into the 21st century. They might
more usefully have opened the record - to get to them, you have to skip
or negotiate the jostling voices, orchestral effects and inevitably
looming crescendos of the opening On Day One or the dense Sign of the
Season. The best tracks, though, are worth the effort.
He is 64 now.
Caramba! Que somzeira, meu irmão!
música increíble. describe muchas imágenes.
Superrrr
unbeleivieble
Who is this amazing percussionist?
Antonio Sanchez! :D
We all know that Lyle Mays couldn't be replaced. Pat Metheny didn't even try to do so : he hired Giulio Carmassi who showed his talent on youtube through amazing one-man-band performances. Then he offered him a tiny little place in a corner, half-hiding him. This video shows this perfectly and it's a probably a shame. He could have let less room to Chris Potter and a little bit more to Carmassi. This would have made a better balance between the saxophone and the piano/keyboards.
+bbmusic22
I love his music! My all time favorite. But gotta admit... as a person...he could be a real d*ck sometimes...
I had the "chance" to talk with him and present my transcriptions of the PMG tunes for solo piano to him. He said he was feeling offensed because his name wasn't written in my songbook, (and he was probably right). He stopped immediatly our conversation and walked away. That was it!
+bbmusic22 Yup. sounds about right. I like Chris Potter waaaaaay better in that regard. Such a genuinely nice guy to talk to. And an absolute MONSTER on the sax!
i've heard that someone told me that he knew PM and he has got a huuudge ego :) but you know he's a fu***ng genius, he can
bbmusic22 So where do you suppose Carmassi should have been placed? In front where Lyle usually plays? Next to Chris Potter or Ben Williams? No disrespect to Carmassi but he hasn't earned his stripes to be at those positions. He was plucked out of youtube anonymity, as talented as he is, whereas everyone else is an established name in jazz. To have given Carmassi the same time and space would have been an affront to everyone else.
Also, I would think PM gets people asking him to look over their work all the time. Unless something about your work catches his eyes immediately he's not going to care. The fact that his name wasn't on the sheets probably gave him an excuse to end the conversation. Either way, it was nothing personal and he doesn't owe it to you to look over your work.
.- lover midrange is all drums´n´stuff ........Am i the only one to miss the silence in the tues once inawhile? Been in the court for more than 30 summers - hmmmmm......happy new year from the one somewho would expect clarity at some point .......
Saravá!! Todas as minhas reverências!
Can someone tell me what pedal he was using?
It's a Roland/Ibanez guitar synthesizer that came out in the 80's: www.joness.com/gr300/G-808.html
6 dislikes... 6 hopeless brains.
If you dont like this specific tune your brain becomes hopeless? (whatever that means) Thats a very chauvinistic and childish statement.
anidemolimacnauj Do you actually know what chauvinistic means?
"displaying excessive or prejudiced support for their own cause"
anidemolimacnauj Lmao. Look up the word again.
Didn't know Sergio Busquets was this good on drums..
buenísimo el parecido !
Lineup??
Back in Mozart's day, the complaint was "too many notes." Today, Pat, John, Al, and a few others quadrupled "the notes." Get used to it. Pick up the pace in your own life.
Why does he always hide the guy in the keyboard? :(
Good question
For fuck's sake, that drummer!
+Rock Barn Records Antonio Sanchez! Academy Award nominee for the Birman soundtrack, btw
Is Chris Potter playing a Guardala? It doesn’t look like his normal link. Still sounds like himself tho
This is really good, but for me, PMG is the best of him. Nothing like that.
I can't give any explanation, but iI didn't like the album Kin ...and I LOVE the Kin tracks performed during The Unity Sessions! :-0
In a similar scenario, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks are dealing with the same situation as Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny.
Give them all a break!
Is he Chris Potter on tenor sax, isn't he?
+JaimeSax99 Yes!
noffin has changed .......the same sailor shirt
Unfortunately I feel this is some mime concerning original cd.
Strepitosi.
I've listened to Pat for years going back to 1980s and much respect. Amazing playing - BUT - I wish he'd give the damn guitar synth thing a rest. Sorry - and I love synths - but if I wanted to hear a synth I'd listen to a keyboard player! Great lines and all, but the sound to me gets annoying after awhile.
I always feel like maybe he is trying to sound like some horn player with the synth. Love his natural guitar tone! But hey, He can color the music the way he wants......he is the artist
Horizontally striped shirt...check...
+Aki Wayne Ukonmaanaho A
I went to his Unity Band concert in Minneapolis with bunch friends all dressed in Horizontal striped shirts. Nobody at the concert got the reference...
boring
+yan ya You clearly have no understanding of this type of music.
+yan ya you haven´t developed your ear, that´s why you find it boring, understandable
Self-indulgent noodling.
No-one cares.
😒
