Making Leaf Mould with Worms No Dig Garden | Gardener’s Gold

Today on the smallholding I have decided to test if I can speed up the process of making leaf mould from un-shredded leaves by adding worms in layers to the leaf pile. I will also be monitoring the pile throughout the year to make sure it stays moist.
I am hoping that by adding worms to the leaf mould making process that it will help to breakdown the leaves quicker and maybe reduce the time from 2 years to 1 year, fingers crossed.

I put my leaf's on the beds and the worms just take them down into the soil directly but I do like your idea, be interesting to see the results (next year maybe)

I like the idea of adding worms and worm castings but leaf mould is essentially fungal I thought. I know you can add coffee grounds. Let us know how it works❤

Yes your right I believe it is mainly fungal activity that breaks it down, but I know it’s a favourite food of worms so I’m just experimenting, Chuck in a few hundred worms leave for a year and ???? Well we’ll see in a year 😆👍

Are you using regular earth worms or did you buy the special worms used in vermiculture?
